Bookies odds on next Southampton manager

Thing is, odds like this are not based on what is likely to happen, but what average members of the public like us think will happen - and where we're putting our cash.

Still, that's not going to stop me wishing WGS is coming back!

Sort of. But what people think will happen and what's likely to happen aren't completely different things.

A 12-1 shot in the Grand National is simply a horse that has had a lot more money put on it than a 200-1 shot. But that is good evidence that the 12-1 horse is much more likely to win than the 200-1 shot.

Simply not true. The initial prices of any "book" are based on the knowledge an opinion of the bookmaker (and sometimes geographical factors). Prices will change as money is bet and significant changes can happen when small amounts of money go on large prices, and particularly when the bookmaker hasnt taken enough on the book. The bookmaker works to an "overound percentage" which usually varies between 105 and 120%. This indicates the likely profit based on equal stakes.

I have never seen a 200-1 shot gambled down to 12-1!!!

seriously...if adams is appointed, oldknow and co can shove their new era up their arse

Whilst I welcome the new guys, we might as well dock ourselves another 15 points with Adams in charge..

From the Shearer and Ince school of 'I haven't got a ****ing clue, plus I have no charisma or motivational skills'

I wouldnt get too concerned with any prices listed anywhere in regard our new manager. The nature of such lists is that form is virtually irrelevant and people bet with their heads/hearts or on pure speculation. This vreates a very instable market and huge fluctuations, when usually no-one knows much. By the time they do, the book will have closed!!!Bookies hardly ever lose on these markets.

Except with horses experts can make an analysis and tip a likely winner. That horse then gets loads of money put on it and becomes a favourite. In the case of a new manager it's complete speculation, the Times mentions that Adams in in the frame (probably basedon nothing more than he's looking for a job) a few punters look at the early odds an think I'l hae a bit of that. The odds go down. Another load of punters see this and think someone knows something they don't they put money on so the odds tumble further. Next thing you know Adams is odds on favourite.

Radio Solent are just stating that Strachan is currently unwilling to comment on speculation he may be the next manager -

Oooooo interesting - he is straight talking chap and I would have honestly expected him to say 'No' directly if hewasn't being asked

interesting..

IF this is the case and he is considering it...I reckon he is pushing for "more money for players" etc...in this league and if/when we get promoted..

WGS would not be interested if we got to the CCC and just "consolidated"

I know they said they will not be flush with the cash, but they are hardly going to say any different..

besides, you dont need to throw too much around outside the prem anyway..

imo, we could get promoted in 3 years to the prem from where we are now, with the right manager and £15m max...

the return on all that would be massive for the owner

Not good.

It's worse:

Strachan 4/5

Adams 5/4

Is this the end of the euphoria already, surely no one in their right minds would appoint Adams. Even my Mum who knows practically nothing about football thinks he is a gormless loser !!

Here's my thoughts....and I bloody hope I'm right.....

I can't help but feel that mass hysteria is the only thing pushing Tony Adams to such a short price.

ML means business and he must be looking to appoint the best possible manager that we can attract........maybe it is WGS, maybe its someone we are very familiar with, maybe its someone we have barely heard of.

The man himself has spoken about his desire to re-align the club with its supporters and get everyone back in SMS to join the crusade back to glory (or relative success).

Surely appointing someone like TA would have the opposite effect and ML will know this. I, for one, cannot take this TA business seriously - It just doesn't fall in line with everything else....?

You don't think there's a sk8 working at Sky Bet who is just trying to wind us all up do you?

Hang on .... sk8? ..... working? oxymoron ... sorry

Nope, yesterday was benefits day so they all bet on Adams and corrupted the market.

Strachan 1/5 To Return To Saints

Sky Bet have cut Gordon Strachan to 1/5 in their next Southampton manager market after taking a flood of money on the former Celtic boss to make a shock return to St Mary’s.

I am clinging to the fact that it is because they know something we don't, however if they did i would think the major newspapers would have jumped on board by now.

I think a lot of people have wagered a lot of money and so they are protecting themselves.

It was in The Sun today about Strachan returning, so who knows?
