chrisobee Posted 10 July, 2009 Share Posted 10 July, 2009 I wouln't get too excited about the odds on Strachan - here's a reminder of the odds when Burley left. The bookies must have been laughing all the way to the bank. Paul Ince 7/4 Chris Coleman 5/2 Billy Davies 4/1 Dave Jones 7/1 Glenn Hoddle 10/1 Tony Pulis 10/1 Alan Shearer 12/1 Stuart Baxter 12/1 Jason Dodd 16/1 Kevin Blackwell 16/1 Micky Adams 16/1 Gary Johnson 20/1 Graeme Souness 20/1 Sam Allardyce 20/1 Nick Holmes 25/1 Matt Le Tissier 33/1 Well any bookie prepared to give odds is not going to take any chances as there is nothing in the way of "form" etc to go. Just those currently quoted on Skybet give an over round figure of about 120% and then it could even be someone not quoted. So unless say in this case Strachan is appointed they are likely to be laughing all the way to the bank again. The odds above prove the point very well given that Pearson is not even quoted! Joensuu Posted 10 July, 2009 Share Posted 10 July, 2009 Positives and negatives about both Hoddle and WGS. WGS - Good (Fitness, Motivation, Passion, High Tempo, Style) Okay (Signings) Bad (Midgame tactics (no plan B), subs (McCann for Fernandez 65mins without fail) Hoddle - Good (great subs and tactical changes, organised, defensively strong) Okay (Style, Fitness) Bad (signings - Draper FFS, motivation ability questionable, ego) Personally I don't think you should ever go back. If WGS stays away he will always be a hero. If he comes back, there is a risk he'll tarnish that. A bit yin/yang... their talents are like perfect opposites of each other. If only you could have both, WGS as manager in all respects except for in-game tactics, which would be Hoddles area (although Hoddle would obviously need to be keep a good distance away from both the players and the media... can't let him go saying anything daft and ruining the atmosphere...) SaintBobby Posted 10 July, 2009 Share Posted 10 July, 2009 Really ?? I know what you mean Trousers but, they must know something to reduce the prices that much. OMG.....that is quite an enormous shift - surely prompted by knowledge rather than just a bunch of Saints fans putting on £20 each. If it was the latter, wouldn't the odds shift more incrementally? (to, say evens, then 4/6 then 1/2 etc...?)

ART Posted 10 July, 2009 Share Posted 10 July, 2009 I'd like Gustavo Poyet myself. He and Dennis Wise are a superb team. Wise got the Directors job at Newcastle due to his sharp eye for spotting up and coming star footballers. Basically those he and Gus brought in are those worth a bob or two today. Strachan's best indication that he might take the job is that at the time of him taking his year off he said he wanted to finish his career in the lower leagues working with youngsters. Could our Academy hold a big attraction for him. So much for Liebherr appreciating German speakers. Wotte speaks fluent German but didn't last 2 minutes. In fact Wotte love of talking too much to the media didn't go down well with Liebherr. That's why Wise would appeal. He hates the media and talking to them. yet he gets on with his job and gets results.

Tokyo-Saint Posted 10 July, 2009 Share Posted 10 July, 2009 Wouldn't pay too much attention with Sky bet. A guy from there was on SSN this morning saying that if they have a few bets on someone they drop the odds. They got stung with M. Owen moving to Man U and don't want it happening again. So a load of hopeful saints fans backed by sightings around the town will make his odds very short. It would be nice though....please!
