Bookies odds on next Southampton manager

both were good for us. WGS stayed longer and agree with points you make.

Remember the feeling when Hoddle left - we were looking really good.

Hoddle was better.

We were going somewhere under him until the North London Yobbos wrecked it.

Strachan had a purple patch, but he lost his nerve imo when we lost 6-1 to Arsenal a few weeks before the Cup Final.

I was gutted when Hoddle left and I was one of the people who understood why he did, and never hated the bloke. I just feel that WGS has been in the game with Celtic and has been a success, be it in Scotland. I feel Hoddle maybe a little out of touch, when was he sacked by Spurs 2003/4?

I would love it if WGS came in and I feel the fans would be more united behind him. We all know he could not take us any further, but I also would take a gamble on GH without a doubt.

On a low interest market that only one bookie is offering, it would take no money at all to make the prices change or for them to be pulled altogether. I'd lay WGS at 5/4 until my mortgage is paid, I'd like him here as much as the next man but I just can't see it.

More chance of him than Hoddle though; that is a definite non-runner

I agree in a thin market, it doesnt take much to move prices; but it doesnt explain why prices would be pulled altogether.

Hoddle didn't hang around long enough to judge. At all his other jobs (Swindon apart) he started off well then just faded into mediocrity. If he had stayed at Saints the same thing would have probably happened.

He's a good coach but his record in the transfer market and his man management ultimately let him down as a manager. Not in Strachan's league IMO.

WGS would have done better (and stayed, probably) if he'd had the final say in player purchases, IMHO. Hopefully, the new manager will have control in such matters.

He left because Lowe failed to back him when he warned him that the team was higher in the league than it deserved to be without reinforcement. At the time we badly needed a midfield and Lowe looked at us high in the table and thought he knew better.

WGS left soon after for a hip operation... sorry, but Lowe put him off, as well as all the other decent managers we had.

WGS leaving was not a bad thing in itself (it was made a bad thing by the complete shambles that Lowe followed it with) - I don't think WGS could have taken us further and it was time for someone to pick up the mantle.

That said, we now have a huge potential again and he seems as good as anyone when it comes to appointing someone to help fulfil it. My only concern is that things are never quite the same the second time...

I would bet that our new manager isn't even on that list

Completely agree. Tony Husband on South Today (who is normally ITK) was tonight hinting at a continental set-up with a director of football. I would be expecting a foreign manager as English managers aren't normally too keen on that.

FWIW I would love Strachan but really can't see it. I suspect he'll end up at Fratton if he's living in Hants.

I've just got back from watching Weston-super-Mare v Exeter.

Exeter fielded a first team, but Paul Tisdale was absent. The Grecians were managed by Andy Tilson.

Fact.

Paul Tisdale has just been completing the first part of his UEFA Pro Licence at Warwick University with peeps like Hart, Di Matteo, Adkins, Poyet and Staunton....This is an elite coaching badge....He completed his A licence in 2007....Whilst on the course a second year course group arrived and this included Southgate.

Tisdale will now complete 240 hours various criteria over a period of time..

including a one week visit to an overses club...

John Yemms and his second in charge are also looking at other players at other clubs friendlies.

It'll be Christian Gross

That's actually not a bad shout. He's just been fired as manager of Basel, so has no club at the moment. Most in Switzerland would consider him as one of the best managers here of the last 10 years (4 championships and 4 cups in that time), though he did have the biggest budget.

Personally, I'd still rather have WGS; but I don't think it will happen until we're back in the top flight.

Positives and negatives about both Hoddle and WGS.

WGS - Good (Fitness, Motivation, Passion, High Tempo, Style) Okay (Signings) Bad (Midgame tactics (no plan B), subs (McCann for Fernandez 65mins without fail)

Hoddle - Good (great subs and tactical changes, organised, defensively strong) Okay (Style, Fitness) Bad (signings - Draper FFS, motivation ability questionable, ego)

Personally I don't think you should ever go back. If WGS stays away he will always be a hero. If he comes back, there is a risk he'll tarnish that.

Draper was a better signing than Rosler.

WGS ticks all the boxes. Lives in Southampton, unfinished business combined with a motivation to live somewhere nice and gets the fans united.

If it is him I'll be stunned and over the moon, but gutted it wasn't the Dream (on) team of me & Nickh

I'd also love to know where the Swiss guys got their business plan as they would show they are REALLY on the ball and have a real feel for what is needed.

Strachan now in close season - gets the squad fit for L1, may have to fly back just to be able to put 50 quid on us at least getting into the playoffs

Hey if Strachan does come back then I'll be able to dig out all my 'On the March with Strachan's Army' flags that I picked up dirt cheap after the 2003 Cup Final.

Think I've got a few t-shirts I shipped over as well.

I bet you'd see a fair few coming out the back the of wardrobe if he is appointed.

Who was Celtic's star player under Strachan? Surely we can steal him?

Nakamura? Scott McDonald?

Strachan still at 5/4 with Skybet to be new manager. Pretty much as it was yesterday with a few new names mentioned elsewhere I think:

Strachan, G 5/4

Wise, D 5/1

Keegan, K 8/1

Boothroyd, A 10/1

Adams T 12/1

Le Tissier, M 12/1

Adams, M 16/1

Shearer, A 16/1

Wright, M 20/1

Dowie, I 25/1

Bond, K 25/1

Souness, G 33/1

Hoddle, G 40/1

Redknapp, H 66/1

Are you a Dalek? He was on Five Live saying how he had turned down 16 job offers and how happy he was. I would like him to stay in Spain. He is doing worthy work there.

Wotte was on the TV two hours before ghe was sacked that all was tickety-boo.

What people say to the media and what is reality are often quite disparate.

This is seriously worrying. What is this **** doing so high in the reckoning? If he's 5/1 what price Vinnie Jones, Ian Brady, Harold Shipman or even Branfoot? Sorry, the thought of Wise, who would surely rival Hoddle in the popularity relegation zone, has left me somewhat deranged!

Tony Pulis 10/1
