Scoobysaint Posted 10 July, 2009 Share Posted 10 July, 2009 I'm not convinced the appointment of Strachan would be the best appointment. He is a good manager but his teams are effective by simply being fitter than the opposition. I don't think he is a master tactician who would be able to compete at the higher levels. If we are looking to build for the future then we should surely be looking for a manager who will be here for the next ten or fifteen years. I'm not too sure who really fits the bill. It would be nice to see Shearer possibly but is it right to take a gamble on an unproven manager. I know he not the most attcking manager and he's been out of the game for a while but George Graham is the kind of boss I'd like. Well respected, proven, authoritative and knowledgable. I just think our squad needs a little more discipline.
jawillwill Posted 10 July, 2009 Share Posted 10 July, 2009 Just been speaking to someone I know from inside the club and he has informed me the new manger might be William Niederhauser who is currently manager of Swiss second division side Servette FC, who play their trade in Geneva. Don't shoot the messanger. Either him or Strachen anyway.
buctootim Posted 10 July, 2009 Share Posted 10 July, 2009 Strachan would only be a good choice if he really, really wanted to do it for the craic and challenge - not because we offered him a shed load of money and were an easy choice being "just up the road". Anyway, WGS has unfinished business at Saints. Does anybody else remember when he said "this will be my last job in football" when he was here last time? NickG Posted 10 July, 2009 Share Posted 10 July, 2009 Steve Cotterill has achieved more than Paul Tisdale and he is treated like the second coming by some on here. what's he achieved? THe case in todays echo for him was he lives locally!
PaulSaint Posted 10 July, 2009 Share Posted 10 July, 2009 This bloke on the Echo site reckons its Strachan & he's already lining up Man U loans? WGS offered 3 year contract, worth £500k with £150 bonus for any promotion during that time. Word from the Club says that Strachan has accepted the deal provided he is able to get revenue straight away and that he can allow Henderson to take charge of affairs while he scouts and talks to contats about signings. Strachan has already earmarked Richard Eckersley of Manchester United as a target after talks took place between QPR and United over the player. Strachan has moved straight in and asked for an initial 6month loan and the option of the remaining season if Fergie accepts that he is being played and getting the experiance. Very reliable and will be announced soon

I can recall some of the things he was telling us during a world cup match where he was a guest in the studio, That he tried to sign Rosicky, Drogba, Saha, Malbraque and that Arsenal striker who he had in his office ready to sign. IMHO if you match his ambition then we are on a massive winner.

Third Division South Days Posted 10 July, 2009 Share Posted 10 July, 2009 I'm starting to think that WGS has got the job. CB Fry Posted 10 July, 2009 Share Posted 10 July, 2009 what's he achieved? THe case in todays echo for him was he lives locally! Took Cheltenham from non league obscurity into what is now League One and established them as a solid league club in a town with no football heritage whatsoever. Won the FA Trophy. Think what you would think of, say, Jason Dodd if he took Eastleigh into League One in five-six years. That level of achievement. Three solid seasons of CCC football at Burnley. Excellent start at Stoke in CCC, before his ill fated sojourn into the Premier League with Sunderland. Highly respected coach's coach. Lots of great contacts in the game, and Harry Redknapp . He's not my first choice but he has the calibre to do a job for us, and as I said in my original post, has acheived more than Tisdale.

With all the speculation about I would have thought a denial would have been issued before now by Gordon if he was not interested. I'm starting to think that - the club or WGS could easily just give a one line quote saying essentially "don't be so stupid" and we'd accept that. Because it is a bit silly to think he'd take the job. So maybe this is going to happen.
Frank's cousin Posted 10 July, 2009 Share Posted 10 July, 2009 Certainly would be a bit of a coup for us lowly Div 1 types ;-) Fitest squad, play with width, would want a bigger target man in the Beattie Mould... I wonder if he might come in as DoF though or advisor to a younger or foreign coach?
Joensuu Posted 10 July, 2009 Share Posted 10 July, 2009 I just can't see one of the usual suspects being rolled out... I have a gut feeling that the next appointment will be someone young, ambitious, and well known on the continent. Some posters are talking about [insert big name manager here] are being unrealistic... Where are our realistic boundaries? For most managers this would be the perfect opportunity: possibly plenty of money to spend (possibly!) an upbeat atmosphere a lack of infighting (how good to say that!) great facilities large fan bas relatively weak league (I'm not saying easy!) relatively high profile (compared to league!) All in all I'd imagine 90% of managers would leap at the chance... and only the established few would turn it down. .
Victor Posted 10 July, 2009 Share Posted 10 July, 2009 i dont think I could stomach adams at the club the guy is a nutter It may not be common amongst football managers but I don't see why being thoughtful and intelligent should make one a "nutter". I can, however, see why you think it does. I don't think the two things are mutually exclusive. He's a thoughtful, intelligent, nutter. The problem is he isn't quite as intelligent as he thinks he is, and the players see through it, but can't understand his team talks. Tony Adams would be a total disaster. I am sure Wim Jansen has been on the phone to Oldknow heartily recommending his best mate already.

NO f**king way to Tony Adams! I am officially starting to get worried now! Surely this is BS? They cant be that stupid! He would not unite the fan base and would be an even worse option than keeping Wotte. Seriously I would have rather they kept Wotte than bringing in Adams, he would be the wrong choice and a massive step in the wrong direction. Everyone should bombard the club with calls and messages already just incase its true! Somebody ITK put my mind at rest, this has to be a load of rubbish right?
