Smirking_Saint Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 He was spoken to by SSN 4 hours ago saying that the club were happy with him for staying on and he was looking forward to a new challenge. When asked whether they could sign a new manager he said there is no point even discussing it. So... clearly he was unaware

Channon's Sideburns Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 Well..well...well.. Never boring are we??!! Anyway, thank you to Mark Wotte for sticking around during the summer, hope that the pay-up on the contract is compensation for the loss of the job. We wanted a clean sweep - I think we're getting it. Good luck Mark - and I do mean that, I was getting to like you. All the best... But who next???!!!?? thorpie the sinner Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 Just noticed the Swiss croos in the banner!!!!! Cool! I think Wotte conducted himself with dignity but needed to go, hope he gets a new job quickly!!!! Just hope the Swiss make the right choice, this could really shape our season!! Papa Shango Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 Right decision. I thought Wotte did ok given the circumstances last season, but there's plenty of managers out there who are more capable. Thanks for an amazing performance away at Ipswich last season, and for the last few weeks of pre season, but it's time now for a fresh start. batterseasaint Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 i wonder if this is as a result of contractual discussions with various players that the new regime see as being key to next season's success. Ie. Something along the lines of 'i'll sign a new contract ifThe manager goes'.
Bailey Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 The more I think about it, the more I feel Wotte has been played by the new owners. They hinted that he'd remain in charge, therefore overseeing the first-team's training and pre-season fixtures whilst the takeover was being finalised. Now it has been sorted, they've said thankyou very much but after reviewing the managerial situation, we feel it's best to have a clean sweep all round. As they say, that's business! I do feel a tad sorry for him though and I wish him every success in the future.
david in sweden Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 Shame for him. Shame for us if it means no Saejis too. Hope they have someone decent lined up. More importantly, I hope they listen to existing staff about the current squad and players like Saejis. Will Svensson stay? well as you say, a real shame! Think he did a fine jib the last 3 months in very difficult circumstances. good luck Mark.
ottery st mary Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 Our pre season has been very similar to last season and our league games would have followed all that went before....He was not the man for the job from the day he started with Rupert and JP..... Sorry but this is absolutely the right decision and time to sort out the sorry mess that is our football side/squad at the moment.....Good luck for your future Mr Wotte...but the right decision by peeps who KNOW what they are doing... John B Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 I thought Wotte maybe on the wayout reading the brief statement last night relating to management both on and off the field. I now feel that money will be spent on players and we could well be heading for the play offs/Promotion
Smirking_Saint Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 Dignity and loyalty?! He was in talks with an Egyptian club the other week! TBF, Davis was very much in talks with WHU but he got no stick. Problem is admin brings no securities, i don't blame him for looking elsewhere. Just hope that position is open for Wotte, he deserves something. Thanks to you wotte, you acted like a true gent But.... time to move forward

Webby Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 Oh and I think they have someone else already. Wouldn't be surprised to hear by the weekend. I hope people aren't coming here for the money though. I mean, who knows what the wage structure will be like now. I think the lure should be the ambition and the challenge.
DT Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 May I point out to amnesiac fans that he was disliked by the players, was pretty clueless tactically, and could not prevent us from getting relegated. Oh, and they called him chocolate because he'd eat himself if he was. Tata Mark. I'm sure you did okay financially by us, especially in that weird role you used to have. mcjwills Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 Bloody hell. Not the best manager but I thought he'd be the right choice for a season since he at least knows the players and has been planning for the new season. I hope they've got someone lined up as we can't afford to miss any more of pre-season. I guess it's back to F5ing again until we get a new guy in. ALL praise to the god of F5

Saints Mad Si Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 Can't help thinking this is potentially a bad thing for a number of reasons: 1) new season is nearly upon us and we've transferred one set of uncertainties for another 2) After Wotte has acted with real dignity this appears, at first glance, to be a real stab in the back No doubts he has been loyal, but usually new people want theyre own people, thats business and they are succesful in business, we needed to get the right people in the right areas as soon as possible and this manager is the most important in the club and to be fair he didnt really get the players up for it at the crunch time at the end of last season, bring in a new man and players will up their game, he will also want to freshen things up. Baically a clean sweep that was needed.
beatlesaint Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 Oldknow hinted at the right management on and off the field last night.....and for all the right things he has done over the summer in holding it together when the crunch came and it was putting a team out on the pitch with the right tactics Wotte showed time and again last season he wasnt the right man for this club or English football IMHO. Surprised he hasnt been kept on to head up the Academy but if they want a clean sweep then great, suits me..... Be interesting to see if they go for a name or someone who knows how to get out of this league !!!!

Topcat Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 (edited) I agree with Legod. Wotte actively participated in Lowe's final last experiment and then was one of the least successful Saints managers ever. It all resulted in administration and relegation. Short of going out of business there was not much worse that could have happened. And he walks away with another year of pay! I do think he's shown great professionalism this close season, and wish him well, but this is definitely the right decision for the club. Got to make the right appointment now - Coppell in my book, or someone of that calibre. Onwards and upwards!!

inoffthepost Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 As a fan I feel sorry that he was always on a hiding to nothing from day one and, for the sake of continuity, I would've given him the opportunity to re-build after all he knows what's needed.
