Painswick Saint Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Very speedy action by the board - obviously no place for sentiment with the new regime. Can't help feeling that Wotte stuck by us during the difficult times, though. I would wish him well for the future
Draino76 Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 That or Keegan and I will buy a season tick extra just so I can spread out at games... Are you one of those people that ought to buy 2 train tickets coz dey iz so Phat?
bridge too far Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Why was he given a new contract? What a complete waste of time and money. Do we know this to be the case?
S-Clarke Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Why was he given a new contract? What a complete waste of time and money. He wasn't. He was contracted with us for another year anyway, as academy director. But his contract was altered so it read ''Head coach..''
StD Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 It's the right decision but I feel sorry for him... Hopefully he'll get a decent golden handshake as he showed good commitment last week. A clean break with a competent (and experienced) management team was required.
Mr X Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 My dad said he was just on the radio talkin bout next seasons preperations obviously not a live interview but why would solent play it if hes gone? .... strange
Smirking_Saint Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Statement from Saints on SSN Club wish him well, it is confirmed that he has left. Search has begun for the new manager and they want a team on and off the field to take the club forward.
SKATE_HATE Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Henderson taking charge of first team affairs. Didn't realise he was still here.
krissyboy31 Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Confirmed on SNN now. Read out statement from the club. Stewart Henderson in temporary charge. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~1718141,00.html And on OS!!
ottery st mary Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Loyalty some said....He applied for two different sides this summer.......Good luck to Mr Wotte and if he was in the market for various jobs..who could blame him.....So much for loyalty....He must have known there was a good chance of being off loaded anyway..That is football....All his press and renta a quote was not for Saints but for the general market place....Once again I don't blame him or The new Saints owners.....Wotte was not good enough but he sure as hell suckered a few of Saints supporters with his quotes .......He was always on to a loser because of the peeps he crewed up with......Back to Holland Mr Wotte..Good luck....You really didn't do it for Saints.
DT Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 our decision part of a wider strategic plan, says the club
S-Clarke Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Statement from Saints on SSN Club wish him well, it is confirmed that he has left. Search has begun for the new manager and they want a team on and off the field to take the club forward. Sounds like they want to appoint someone who will create a buzz IMO. I don't think they'd sack Wotte if they were just looking at run of the mill appointments. but we'll see....
Smirking_Saint Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~1718141,00.html Christ it's never been updated so quick, wonder what happened to the last web monkey ?
The Kraken Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Statement from Saints on SSN Club wish him well, it is confirmed that he has left. Search has begun for the new manager and they want a team on and off the field to take the club forward. Hopefully the search will start and end with WGS. Very optimistic though.
GenevaSaint Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Can't help thinking this is potentially a bad thing for a number of reasons: 1) new season is nearly upon us and we've transferred one set of uncertainties for another 2) After Wotte has acted with real dignity this appears, at first glance, to be a real stab in the back 1) Can't see this as a real problem, our pre season has been well and truely fecked over anyway, 2) He has acted with great dignity, a stab in the back, but this is business.
andymcrowe Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Thanks MW - unfortunately loyalty has cost the club a lot in the past - Messrs Grey and Wigley spring to mind - so it's 'not personal' as our Michael Corleone lookalike CE might say. Ignore the spiteful, nasty comments above - there can be nothing lower than kicking someone who has just lost their livelihood - just take note that the vast majority of fans respect the dignity and effort that you have shown. Good luck for the future.
Saint Billy Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 That would be awful. They do horrible roast potatoes. FACT There is nothing like home cooked roast potatoes.......... fact!
Polaroid Saint Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Will Wotte resume his role with the academy? (I wrote that sentence for Jonathon Ross to say)
david in sweden Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Just said it on SSN (reports coming out of Southampton suggest....). Only just showed him shaking hands with Kelvin on his return to training this morning. I have to say I'm shocked and thought they had decided to keep him in the short-term. The Echo report doesn't suggest they've got anyone lined up, which makes the decision even stranger. Who's going to take training and prepare the squad for Bournemouth and Cheltenham? Stewart Henderson takes temporary charge of first team selection. (OS)
Legod Third Coming Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Are you one of those people that ought to buy 2 train tickets coz dey iz so Phat? No, but I wouldn't want anyone to see my erection if we appoint KK...
krissyboy31 Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Will Wotte resume his role with the academy? (I wrote that sentence for Jonathon Ross to say) "Parted company" suggests not!!
doggface Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 feel a little sorry for him in a way, but this is the definately the right move football wise - his tenure last year although being under difficult circumstances, was rat****. Best Wishes to MW
RonManager Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 That or Keegan and I will buy a season tick extra just so I can spread out at games... I will buy a block of 12 so I can watch the game in bed
Daren W Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Bit of a shame in so much as Wotte could have been an excellent Academy manager/executive... I'd hate to lose his experience... I've got a dream list of Strachan or Keegan and a realistic list of Coppel or Hoddle
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Why was he given a new contract? What a complete waste of time and money. But it is not our money that is wasted don't forget.
up and away Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 This does come as a big surprise, but we will appointing someone very soon. Maybe some sympathy for Wotte but what ever Markus wants to do will not get a reaction from me, when you consider our fate without him. When you look at what Coppel and Majedski did together at Reading, you can easily see a similar approach at Saints. Maybe not fast enough for a lot of fans but would make a lot of sense.
thorpie the sinner Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 But it is not our money that is wasted don't forget. Who will take charge for Saturday's game I wonder? Sky said Henderson
Saint Billy Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 No, but I wouldn't want anyone to see my erection if we appoint KK... I'm not that keen either
OldNick Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 As a footballing decsion I think it is corrrect, morally???
Puddings and Monkeys Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Dignity and loyalty?! He was in talks with an Egyptian club the other week! Because Pinnacle said they didn't want him as manager. I do feel sorry for Wotte but it's a clean break and we may be really pleased with his replacement.
thorpie the sinner Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Also is Svensson being offered a new contract?
Alanh Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Good luck to him. He wasn't a great manager but respect for the way he conducted himself since administration. This can only be a statement of intent from the new regime. I think that we'll see someone new in very quickly - probably for the start of next week. If they are this quick with strengthening the squad we should see some new faces in very soon as well.
spd Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Some sympathy for him but the the whole dutch experiment was a total disaster and he certainly would not have been the right man totake the club forward
surrey1saint Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 This is of no surprise having read the Echo today, comments from Nicola Cortese said manager decision would be made in the next few days....big hint there.
trousers Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 As a footballing decsion I think it is corrrect, morally??? Our new regime is looking at this with a business head rather than with a political or sentimental head. Very refreshing IMHO.
Saints Mad Si Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 I'm appalled, is this the reward for loyalty? Why? Ok he has spoken well while this takeover/admin has been in place but its not like he has been here twenty odd years, and look at some of the performances while he was in charge - awful, totally out of his depth. Needed the clean sweep.
mcjwills Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 i take it saeijs won't be coming back now then!! Why, if he was offered a contract and the money is right, and the new owners want him, no reason for him not to come back
forever a red and white Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 strachan - do we really want him back. Think about it, how many managers succeed second time round. Will he really have the same motivation as before, despite the money difficult to attract good players, could take years just to get to prem and difficult to stay in, when he could get a prem job now and do well. Might not be right, this is a fresh start and we need to move on.
krissyboy31 Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Sounds like they want to appoint someone who will create a buzz IMO. I don't think they'd sack Wotte if they were just looking at run of the mill appointments. but we'll see.... It also suggests thatwhoever they employ will be given bigger funds for team building.
