KK the 2nd Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 A lot of excited people at the moment but we shouldn't get too carried away. It is great news and a huge relief that finally we can look forward to some stability however we should be realistic in our expectations next season. The bookies, who are a pretty good guide, have us around 6 or 7 to one for promotion and 5 to one for relegation. Basically neither outcome is likely and a mid table finish is where we are most likely to end up.
thorpie the sinner Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 A couple of decent signings for this league, keep lallana, Euell and a couple of others, sorry to say new manager, then my realistic aim for season is play-offs!!!
Jesus Reigned Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Not to get involved in a relegation battle first, and if things go really well maybe an off-chance at a shot at the play-offs will do me.
altoniansaints Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 My heart say playoffs or better but my brain says top ten would be a brill season, eleventh to fifteenth would be the aim and anything lower would be a poor season!
krissyboy31 Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Anything above half way would be a bonus and although play-offs are not completely out of the question, are highly unlikely. Building a team capable of having a bloody good go at automatic promotion next season is what we should concentrate on.
Smirking_Saint Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Automatic promotion, build slightly on the squad we have and kick off, with a good strong attendance 'getting behind' the players we should do very well. Up the fitness levels, get a bruiser in the middle of the park and a creative dynamo. Think we can do it IMO. If not we have to be gunning for playoffs
Dicko Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 I think we should be realistically looking towards promotion the following season. If we achieve it this coming season, then great

Building a team capable of having a bloody good go at automatic promotion next season is what we should concentrate on. Not when you consider that 6th place was 20 points behind Leicester last year, a few of the squad stay, and a few decent signings and this is achievable. IMHO, but I always look on the bright side Would not be overly disappointed with any position above 10th Dont want to jump before we can hop
Papa Shango Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 I don't understand this mentality of settling for just staying up/mid table. Without spending huge money, we are well capable of pushing for the play offs. If Leeds managed it with -15 why can't we with -10? We have plenty of players who most League 1 players would kill to have. A few more decent signings, and we'll have a great chance.

Let's push the bloody boat out and win the damn league for once. (ok, maybe that is a little too far....) - but the playoffs are the main target - the new guys feel the same, as they've not hung around making the big decision re: wotte...
sussexsaint Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 It would be nice to go a couple of years without being relegated
John B Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 With the departure of Wotte I feel the new regime may invest in new players and anything could now happen
Leicestersaint Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Starting with minus 10 points doesn't help at all -we will do very well tof inish in the play offs.
daveygwyatt Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 we wont finish mid table, with the fans united again and really getting behind the team, 3 or 4 signings and we will make the palyoffs.. wembley next year for us
WestSaint Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Don't underestimate the -10. Play offs will be great and possibly achieveable but the seasons starts soon and we have a lot of rebuilding to do and new players will have to gel. Top half of league would be a good finish
s0108787 Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 i'm hoping to finish 6th right now, anything more would be a bonus
sad saints fan Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 I think we will have to wait until the season starts. If we hit the ground running and get three or four straight wins ,which will not be easy, then we can think about play-offs or even automatic promotion. But if we have the normal Southamptonesque start of 3or 4 points out of 12 then we will spend the whole season playing catch up. But with our new owner looking to do the business and get a good management team in place and maybe a couple of decent signings a flyer must be a possability.

Positive thinking mmmmmmmm, I am still trying to re-adjust after years of negativity ! :-)
kpturner Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 The current squad is not good enough to make the play-offs IMHO - especially with a -10 start. We have to hope the new manager can get a decent defense in place so we can start getting a run of clean sheets. We need to be hard to beat and sneak a load of 1-0 wins, because we sure as hell won't be thrashing anyone.
INFLUENCED.COM Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 The realist in me echo's what MLT said re mid table finish, the optimist in me suggests with the right man at the helm, a number of decent signings/loans scrapeing the playoffs, our new *Billionaire* owner will want to see progress year on year so will listen to the the optimist in me for now
Spudders Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 After all the rubbish we've had to endure over the past few years, from on the pitch performances to boardroom rubbish and managerial guffs, I am going to make the most of the feel good factor and allow myself to dream over the next few weeks. No doubt when we give away the lead in the 90th minute of the Millwall game I will come back down to normality, but for now it's happy days.
