Thedelldays Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 He is the guy I would like to manage our club.. decent manager, still things to prove, done well in the past, yes he has not done so well in the past but that would be the case with nealy all realistic options... as it was with billy davies before...IMO get AIDY NOW (i would be happy with wotte to run the youth set up)
Saint_clark Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 No thank you. I said yesterday that he would of been good if we had a shoe string budget, but the likes of him and Cotterill we really want to avoid now.
Papa Shango Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Cue the football snobs saying we don't want anyone playing hoofball Boothroyd would be ideal.
DT Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Not for me. Always thought he flatters to deceive. Billy Davies - now you're talking. I banged on about him being the right man for us for ages. We wouldn't have gone down with him. Personally would prefer a no-nonsense manager like Cotterill or Simpson for League One.
Thedelldays Posted 9 July, 2009 Author Posted 9 July, 2009 No thank you. I said yesterday that he would of been good if we had a shoe string budget, but the likes of him and Cotterill we really want to avoid now. why..? seriously, you think we are going to power spend our way up the leagues..?
Thedelldays Posted 9 July, 2009 Author Posted 9 July, 2009 Cue the football snobs saying we don't want anyone playing hoofball Boothroyd would be ideal. already started...
Give it to Ron Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 why..? seriously, you think we are going to power spend our way up the leagues..? What do Billy Davies, Fat Sam, Neil Warnock, Paul Sturrock, Kevin Blackwell all have in common?
CB Fry Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Would be a brilliant appointment and difficult to see him being anything other than a success at Saints. We need efficiency and fitness and he is the man to deliver that, and he has something to prove.
Saint_clark Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 I retract my comment about Cotterill, I wouldn't be unhappy with him. But Boothroyd seemed a bit like Phil Brown to me - didn't really know how he managed promotion, and when they started getting demolished in the Prem just looked like a rabbit caught in headlights. My first choice as the moment is Tisdale.
notnowcato Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Is this one of those divisive threads where you have to agree with the op or fear being lambasted for being a football snob or something?? Guess I'm a footy snob.

bungle Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Hoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooof! No thanks.
Saint_clark Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Yeah would hate to have a manager like Phil Brown. That guy who got Hull promoted and kept them up Oh come on, from january - april every time they conceded a goal he'd stand there with his arms folded and his eyes wide and you could see him thinking "what the f*ck do I do?".
Smirking_Saint Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 'Ave it. Nah, i'm ok, also 100% agree with Saint_clark, he just couldn't get things right in the prem.
Phil the Saint Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 You would get a crick in the next watching his brand of football.............
Give it to Ron Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 You would get a crick in the next watching his brand of football............. What brand of football did we play last season apart from a losing one?
Papa Shango Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Oh come on, from january - april every time they conceded a goal he'd stand there with his arms folded and his eyes wide and you could see him thinking "what the f*ck do I do?". So what? I don't care what he does with his arms. The fact is he kept Hull up, which is a brilliant achievement, however you look at it.
saint_stevo Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Phil Brown would be below Colonel Gadaffi in my list of Managers i would want here
stevegrant Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Not all that bothered about the long-ball merchant stuff - at the end of the day he used that tactic to suit the players he had at his disposal. There's nothing to suggest that he's fixed in that style of play. What I am concerned about is that he has been whoring himself around to every club who's been looking for a manager for the last 6-8 months - including jobs in League One - and he's still out of a job.
SNOWY Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 I wouldn't be dissapointed to see Boothroyd here but my first choice would be Steve Coppell (I'm assuming he is still available)
Saint Mikey Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 I wouldn't be dissapointed to see Boothroyd here but my first choice would be Steve Coppell (I'm assuming he is still available) I would take Coppell in a flash, but I suspect he'll waiting for an early-season managerial casualty in the Prem. Likewise with WGS (which was always unrealistic anyway). All the noises coming out are that Wotte is staying. I'm a little concerned about his ability to get decent players in. Maybe I'm being pessimistic, but the 'Ryan Smith is world-class' quote is niggling me somewhat. I'm also concerned that we need to learn our lesson from last season and not rely on youngsters too much. Mills, Lancashire, White, Thomson, Patterson need to be bit part players next season to aid their development. We can't rely on a team with too much emphasis on Youth to get to the Playoffs - which should still be our ambition.
sambosa75 Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Long ball merchant. Would probably get us out of the division but I think you can get out of this division easily enough playing a bit of football. Much rather we achieved it in an attacking fashion than in a lump-it-and-hope manner.
S-Clarke Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Now that we actually need a manager (Wotte has gone according to Solent) i'd say yes to Boothroyd. has a nack of finding decent players for little fees - he did play good football on the deck with watford last season tbf - they looked quite good with Tommy smith floating about.
SW11_Saint Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 I wouldn't be dissapointed to see Boothroyd here but my first choice would be Steve Coppell (I'm assuming he is still available) Agree, I think Coppell would be a great fit. Boothroyd? - no thanks.
The Fat Controller Posted 9 July, 2009 Posted 9 July, 2009 Boothroyd, Cotterill, Adams...... come on guy's were billionaires !!!!!!!!!!!
