Brendon Rogers was part of his development at Chelsea so makes sense i guess. Just shows having a manager with good contacts is a big advantage. labibs Posted 13 July, 2009 Share Posted 13 July, 2009 anyone think quashie could still do a job for us? better than wotton in the middle that's for sure. Rumours are that Cardiff may go in for him if they lose Ledley. Can't see him agreeing to play in league 1, or us being able to afford his wages. Would prefer us to go from some hungry players with something to prove rather than older players looking for a big contract. That's what got us into this mess. Baird of the land Posted 13 July, 2009 Share Posted 13 July, 2009 Liam Dickinson is just the sort of player i'd love saints to sign. He was stunning at Stockport but for some reason never got a chance at derby. Stillscored goals when they sent him out of loan. Just read brighton are likely to buy him. Surely this is the sort of player we should be after.

We were linked to him a few seasons ago when he went to Norwich, good central midfielder IMHO. Not a great attitude allegedly - Gunn stripped him of the captaincy and booted out of the squad - and that was a dreadful Norwich side last season. I'd have preferred Douglas but alas gone to Swindon where Wilson has bought some decent players for this level.

Holland - at Colchester on trial I believe and near the family home Todorov - good player but even Michael Svensson has better knees Matt Richards - think has gone to Brighton, snap him up if not. Dan Harding is on a free and I think is available still Volz - would be brilliant but unlikely to drop to L1 Scowcroft - could be handy as a targetman but again Colchester rumoured to be keen Mifsud - unlikely to leave Barnsley. Lambert - yes please Sodje - would be useful but Leeds watching Bennett - would be a decent free for CB cover

benjii Posted 13 July, 2009 Share Posted 13 July, 2009 Nathan Tyson is a player I've seen play a few times in League One. He's a bit rough around the edges but is lightning fast and can play wide left if needed as well as up front. Didn't seem to get much of a run-out with Forest last season. They seem keen to spend a bit this summer and, as we know, have acquired a couple of forwards. I reckon we could get Tyson and I think he'd be a good signing. We don't have any players with genuine "defender-****s-their-pants" pace at the moment, apart from a couple of the nippers. It's a shame we weren't in a position to offer contracts when McGoldrick left as we might have been able to do a swap.

I'd agree with this, the only issue for me would be Tyson's injury record and whether he'd drop a level. Rather like the England cricket team, we do badly need some genuine pace to scare the opposition, our current frontline couldn't pull the skin off of a rice pudding. Well, that is apart from BWP but you can be as quick as you like but it doesn't matter if you are offside!

Quick Saints, not one to miss out on. Just the right age and profile and would be a great partner for Thomas. With those two CBs, we won't be leaking the sunday league goals we were last season. Also means we could loan out Lancashire to the BSP to see if he might be a late developer and might make professional level in a year or so. polegategavin Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 We are in League 1 people........ With Alan Pardew as our manager, and his influence to convince good quality players that we are going places and have the financial clout to back it. Many times have I seen the richer clubs in lower divisions pulling off real coups with signings as they can show progression. If players believe we will be in this division for one season only then there is every reason they could come here, and with Pardew's contacts I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a few Charlton, West Ham and Reading players making the move in the near future, especially younger players with ambition but on the fringes where they are or older pros who respect Pardew. Interesting week or two ahead I believe.....

Clifford Nelson Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 I sat myself down and looked at the current squad. It isn't happy reading if your looking for a team to take us out of League 1. The only certainties in my selection is: Kelvin Davies Chris Perry Simon Gillett Lloyd James Then comes a series of question marks: Morgan Schneiderlin - can he be fitted into a team and play regularly? Adam Lallana - I don't doubt his skills, but why his loss of form? Wayne Thomas - Injuries galore. He doesn't really want to play. Jason Euell - Hmmmmm Lee Holmes - Can he recover the form he showed when he arrived? Ollie Lancashire - Constantly seeing red mist Rasiak - Does he want to play? Bialkowski/Poke/Forecast - At least one will have to go. Who is the future? Saganowski/Skacel/etc. - Already looking at new clubs After that there are one or two youngsters (Mills, Thompson, McLaggon) and a few more I've never seen play. And those, of course, who will never play a first team game (Pulis, for instance), and how do we get rid of them? It looks to me that we would have to recruit a large number of players, and send another large number out on loan if we can.

Stattmeister Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 That PFA website is a wee bit tasty - like real life Championship Manager!! Here's my own, free transfers CDAJFU (assuming that the list is up-to-date, and they haven't signed elsewhere): Michael Ball - LB Sol Davis - LB David Connolly -CF John Fortune - CB Julian Gray - LM Dan Harding - LB Carl Hoefkens - CB Paul Ifil - RM (ish) Steve Kabba - CF Patrick Kisnorbo - CB Leroy Lita - CF Leon MacKenzie - CF Glenn Little - RM John Oster - RM Matt Richards - LM Darius Vassell - CF Moritz Voltz - RB I know the list is devout of sense (it is alphabetical, rather than in position). For me, one of Fortune/Hoefkens/Kisnorbo would be smashing, along with both the (dreamland) Kabba and Lita up top for pace/power. Michael Ball at left back, and Glenn Little right would do the trick. Not that I expect too much or anything...!! I think that it is relatively realistic (I decided against putting Henri Camara in) given age/experience/injury, although some names may not fancy L1 - I suspect we could meet wages demands, but as history shows, lets not go with bonkers money on lemons. I am however excited at whom AP may bring in, as there is no denying we need an overhaul... I'll shut up now.
rooney Posted 17 July, 2009 Share Posted 17 July, 2009 The list looks interesting. I saw on SSN that Glen Little and Michael Ball where trialling somewhere and Vassell had signed for some Turkish Club I believe. The other suggestions look good, as we are in dire straights for some goal getters/makers judging by the pre-season games todate.

Hamman will want 20k wages at least and will goto someone like Hull or a top flight German team. Vassell is playing for a Turkish Premiership team on big money. Mills is the only one to be even slightly interested incoming here. He'd still be on big money and even then I'm sure he could possibly get an offer from a higher League team than us.
