After seeing what Notts Country have done with the contract offer to Campbell at 34 years old, I can't see why Saints now can't offer a decent and attractive contract to 32 year old Henri Camara. He's just the type of player who can turn things round for us operating out on either wings and linking up with our other strikers. What the hell is holding us back for such signings?

I'm guessing either common sense or the fact that ML doesn't want to spunk his own money away...

........... I remember Le Saux being exasperated with him when he tracked somebody back to the halfway line then just stopped and let him carry on, leaving Le Saux to deal with a 2 on 1....plus the way he has refused to play for teams he has helped relegate doesn't say much for his attitude.....sorry, rambling now.

Are you sure you're not mixing him up with Olivier Bernard who Redknapp brought in to play at left back. He was notorious for leaving the defence unguarded.

Le Saux from what I recall was injured from October 2004 and retired as a result at the end of the relegation season. Harry had Camara stay upfield and swop from left to right because he was the best player we had to get the ball up into the penalty area.

Elsewhere, Camara is 32 years old and would be 33 next year not 36.

We're not stupid like Notts County. While I don't know the terms of the deal, his contract must be for a hell of a lot of money for anyone outside the Premiership, and as such, if their rich owner pulls out of the team next summer, they have a 36 year old with a very expensive 4 year contract to do something with.

Granted, it'd be nice to bring in one or two high profile names, but they come at a cost and, quite frequently, aren't willing to put in 100% for their wages.

To show how stupid they are being with their money, Campbell expects to be playing for the next 3 years - yet apparently they have signed him on 5 year contract at £40k per week. If that is true then Notts County will be fully reliant on their owner providing the funds. And if thats typical of the deals they are going to do then as soon as he gets bored then they will cease to exist. Sorry but not a route I want SFC to go down.

Notts County: a disaster waiting to happen IMHO

I agree, at the time of taking this job, Sven had 2 options manage Pompey or become DOF at Notts County. He obviously thought County were the better bet. But, lets be honest if a good European or National job comes along I think Sven will be off. Especially, if real success isn't acheived relatively quickly, the owners could lose interest.

With my last sentence you could say the same about us. I think we're different because we're taking a much steadier approach, by not offering stupid wages to player, we paying players what they're worth for the division they're in.

Thinking out loud, why haven't the Football League intervened in the Sol Campbell purchase by Notts County?

We know from bitter recent experience that they come down on clubs like a ton of bricks when, in the Football League's view, the club has sought a competitive advantage by 'overspending' on players (for example) - i.e. they dock them points if they then can't afford to pay the bills at some point in the future.

If the Football League was genuinely interested in preserving the integrity of their Leagues by clobbering clubs that overspend why do they seemingly turn a blind eye to clubs, like Notts County, who are sowing the seeds of such an eventuality?

In other words, why do the Football League operate in an 'after the horse has bolted' fashion rather than instigate a pre-emptive system that prevents clubs putting themselves in potential jeopardy in the first place?

This is a semi-rhetorical question really, as no doubt their hands are tied by some European freedom of business law or such like - "innocent until proven guilty" and all that - but to preside over a club setting itself up for a big fall seems somewhat at odds with their overall 'financial prudence' policy....no?

I agree, the key here is that due to "donations" being accept as additional revenue for the purposes of the set salary caps at each level of the league structure, for this or any other outlandish salary arrangement there needs to be some form of "guarantee" that for the duration of the contract that the donation will be honoured.

I don't know whether this is the case in the Campbell situation but that to me would be the written confirmation that the football league should insist on, and if it is in place, then I don't see what more the football league can do, until there is a breach of this arrangement.

Spoke to my work colleague today about him. My mate is a Coventry lad and fan born and bread and lives there. He said it's common knowledge up that way that Mc Sheffery is a wrong un, he's caught up in drug dealing and that's why Brum are bombing him out, there are other players involved too...it's all very BENT apparently and McLiesh is having none of it.

Shame really because he said Mc Sheffrey is a good player but has fallen in with a bad lot. Coventry were looking to get him back but lost interest when they found out about the situation.

Not the first midlands player to get caught up in this sort of thing and I'm sure he won't be the last!!

Just passing on what I have heard. Of course it could just be rival fans dreaming up things.

Good List Smirking Saint. I think obviously Jackson is the one we all want. I imagine he is on £4k max a week, so we would probably need to triple his wage to about £12k to get him to sign. I imagine a deal of about £1mill down rising to about £1.5 mill would be enough for the Gills to let him go. This signing would be great, plus he is bound to have a good resale value. Im sure he will go, depends whether a Championship club come knocking i guess.

Craddock is another option for about £250k. I don't know much about him but he is supposed to be pretty good and quick.

Webber - would be a great free

McKenzie - on a free could be worth it.

Pace is the key in the next few signings.

Perfect Window -

Jaidi free

Jackson £1.5

Volz free

Gradel 500k

Craddock 250k

I am beginning to get worried that apart from this O'Donovan character, there isn't a sniff of another rumour today, and it is 4 days 'til the window shuts and one of those days is a match day and 2 of the others aren't normally considered "working days".

true, but if you think back to the last few signings they have tended to come from nowhere rather than being banded about in the press or whatever beforehand

To be fair - Lambert, Harding and Hammond all came out of the blue with no sniff of a rumour.

mIfSuD would be ideal, been banging on bout him for a while!

and Campbell-Ryce would be sweet n all

It's simple really, and most people can see it ... you certainly can....

A bit of pace and purpose (like Campbell-Ryce, like Mifsud) would make a MASSIVE difference. Steve Kabba would be an excellent foil for Lambo as well...

Didn't think B'mouth could bring anyone in, but would be a good move for Olly.

I'd heard over the last couple of days that we're still v v interested in Craddock at Luton and this has been stepped up with the departure of Rasiak.

Also a guy at Accrington is on the raydar as well (we've sent scouts to watch them), not sure who though.

Would've been perhaps - he joined Brentford a few weeks back.

Yeah, I know, I listed it above.. .and was gutted when I saw him join the Bees! :(

Anyway, I forgot someone I've always rated but has only just moved ... plays for Chesterfield now... Ian Breckin... solid centre half.
