to be honest SR.. As it stands I dont think we are strong enough for a promotion push...

but what I really cannot see is us fighting to stay up this season...we may be poor but we are better than that

Agreed and we will be stronger by 1st of September and stronger still by 1st February.

I agree, at the moment we are not strong enough, and AP is working on that

I too think that we will clear the -10 (now -9), and head upwards ....... as I said earlier, had it not been for the Pinnacle delay, AP (we) would have had a really strong all round squad which COULD have challenged for a Top Six

"delldays" ..... where did you stand/sit ??? ....

I know that various scouts are at most football games but there is rumour that amongst others there was an interest from Saints at the Exeter v Norwich game on Saturday.

Agreed that sometimes clubs have representation re future opponents etc..We do not play either club for a while.

If looking at players from either side for Saints for the here and now I would fully recomend.

Exeter......Matt Taylor....Centre Back very very good.(The other centre Back Troy Archibald-Henville is very young.not much experience.not too bad already on loan from Spurs... their future prospect)

Liam Sercombe... Right or Centre Midfield Youngster but probably no better than Melis...More a future prospect. Not sure Exeter would release Taylor.

Norwich.....Wes Hoolahan..Winger With top speed, skill, trickery and above all else experience..Would be just what we need NOW.

Simon Whaley...Right winger/midfield...Close second to Hooley but would be good for our right side now.

Jens Berthel ASKOU Centre Back...Big strong powerful experienced player and scored from a corner...Liked the look and compared to some centre backs legs and a brain.

Unsure about ..Owain Tudor Jones was only played for a while as sub..but has something in midfield as has the young Tom Adeyemi in midfield. Matt Gill has only just returned to his hometown team...Good player in the middle going forwards. Gary Doherty..Bruiser of a centre back..not as good as Berthel.

Others with experience Paul McVeigh, Dejan Stefanovic, Jamie Cureton, Stephen Hughes

did not play...

For here and now IMO I would see Berthel, and Hoolihan as players who would fit in and do us proud at Saints....... Not sure of the current situation with Norwich and money etc but they did take on a lot of players under Gunn and have to off load quite a few.

Just some thoughts on what I saw at Exeter.

One defeat and thats it? Season over? No chance of the play offs?

**** me. The expectations are unreal on this board. People seriously thinking that one defeat to the favourites of the league with one of the best players in the league scoring twice against us means its over and we are in a relegation battle.

absolutely not, but the manor of the defeat are the obvious failings (in terms of pace and height from our centre backs, threat from our wide players, ability to get hold of the ball in midfield, and pace up front) are a real concern.

JPS or Perry at the back? Its a no brainer so why not make this happen?

What about Dietmar Hamann who has been released from Man City? He is looking for a club in England and would certainly be a better bet than Wotton. Or is he out of our reach?

He is one dirty b'stard!!

Exactly what we need!

We should get Chris Baird and Andrew Davies back on loan - neither is playing at their current club and both are former Saints players of the season. They'd add a bit of youth and steel at the back - and I'm sure we could afford to pay half their wages now.

I'd also bring Prutton back to add some bite in midfield - if the rumours he wants to return to the South Coast are true.

Have a go at signing Andrew Davies, I'm sure Championship clubs would be queueing up but it's worth a go.

He's the only time we have even come close to replacing Killer in about 5 years.

Good player, but another injury prone one im afraid.

He was out for about 6 months in all last year (got injured 3 games into a loan spell at PNE).

We've got enough of those....

I guess the fact he speaks German can help in the negotiations!

Realistically though his wage demands are likely to be out of our current bracket!

In Swedish papers today - Mr.Eriksson has called him and asked for him to come and play for Notts C. He said no so hes still there for the Grabbing for Saints ; )

hmm...this may be pushing it a bit Mr Liebherr but is there any chance we could just thump in with the best part of a million for Simeon Jackson? Gillingham would no way be able to turn that down and that'd give a c/ship level front two completely sorted for at least the next 3 years - and with the kids like Paterson coming through that'd basically mean we can consider the strikeforce essentially done and dusted.

Andrew Davies

Must have been mentioned in this thread somewhere. But our player of the season from two years ago isn't getting a game at Stoke so maybe worth a try.

Would be worth a try on loan definitely, perhaps this is one that AP would consider at the start of September once the Prem teams are clear who they want and who they don't....

Deadline Day is Tuesday 1st September at 5pm if i'm correct and I CANNOT WAIT!

I'm off that day and am going to be glued to Sky Sports News the whole day, I just know something is going to happen regarding the club! I can feel it in me bones.

You are a goon. I seriously can't believe people seriously suggesting players like Davies, Baird, Cork etc.

Andrew Davies spent most of last season impressing while on loan at Championship clubs. There is simply no chance of him coming here while we are in league 1.

How can you actually believe that he would want to come here? Seriously...

Really hoping AP goes to Nicola with list of 4 or 5. Using lastnights performance as a justification and just tells him straight this is what we need and when we need it (now).

I have faith in AP and i believe he can do the job :)

No he didn't. He spent most of the season troubling the Stoke physios and played a total of 7 league games for Stoke and Preston. He's too head-strong and gets himself hurt through unnecessarily physical play. He has no subtlety at all and is constantly out of position. In L1, he would only play for 10 minutes before he broke something and was out for a month.

P*ss off Sideburns, he is toilet !

Well he's better than Wotton. In our playoff season he was truly an unfair scapegoat - he did the simple things well and alot of our wins were built around how he kept it solid in the middle.

Wotton doesn't keep it simple, he just hooof's it about 2 years in front and then fowls the player.

Wotton isn't a scapegoat...he's just ****.

... I just wonder WHY AP's body language is really really down ...... and the match he was at last night was certainly not the one I was:cool:

I think we could do worse than trying our chances in loaning in Jack Cork and Nigel Quashie to bolster our midfield
Jack Cork I'd welcome back, but I don't think he'd drop below the CCC, even with our powers of persuasion.

Quashie is very unlikely indeed, and carries that relegation tag around with him like a gravestone. I wouldn't be suprised if he joined Burnley, to add another team to his collection!

I would be amazed if Cox were sold, though I wouldn't really mind because I don't think he's as good as people seem to think, and I actually think the way he plays makes us weaker, formation wise. I would rather we had a natural left winger on that left hand side, with the natural left foot. Obviously, someone better than McLeod.

If we were to sell Cox, I wouldn't be too disappointed. I hope we get atleast £500,000 though!
