Badger Posted 14 August, 2009 Share Posted 14 August, 2009 Danny gabbidon? Now this must be a joke. On his day i rate him as one of the best centre backs in the league. He may potential be 5th or 6th in the pecking order for CBs at West Ham this year, seeing their squad, but it would still be a massive coup if we signed him ahead of some lower Prem or CCC clubs. This really would show intent and lift the bar for the rest of the squad! Can't see it though......

We'll find out tomorrow. Maybe Liam Bridcutt who I believe was on loan at Watford last season. He would be my guess. But like I said, i'm not actually sure. I'm ITK. And we shall find out more tomorrow. Well done, nice to have a few posts re potential signings that do have substance !

gjphilsaint Posted 16 August, 2009 Share Posted 16 August, 2009 Skacel and Pele are still unattached. We could do with them in our midfield right now. Skacel remains unattached because he never performed at Saints.. and for that his punishment is oblivion.. if he had performed someone would have snatched him up ages ago. Chez Posted 17 August, 2009 Share Posted 17 August, 2009 Skacel and Pele are still unattached. We could do with them in our midfield right now. I'd take Pele over any of our defenders and any of our defensive midfielders. Skacel is better than Holmes - our only left midfielder. Simple. Centre backs are what we need though. Two of them immediately. A big bloke to win headers and a fast big bloke to win headers and to mark the fast strikers.

SaintRichmond Posted 17 August, 2009 Share Posted 17 August, 2009 Yes, and are we not richer than Notts C? Moot point ...... what I am saying is, the owners of Notts County Will throw money at getting them Promoted to the Prem ....... I think they are more High Profile than Markus I'm not saying theirs is the best way .... they are going for the Quick Fix scenario After all that we have been through, I prefer the "Slow but Sure" method ...but it is , nevertheless very frustrating, because I firmly believe that if we had had another Two additions to the squad by now, we WOULD have been in with a shout of the play offs The major downside is the -10 ( now -9) ........ On a positive spin, the loss has highlighted our weaknesses which is good in the long run. Far from it ...... If you are honest with yourself, and especially if you are a Neutral .... there is no way you would say Saints are anywhere near ready to mount a Promotion push ... that is the Reality of our situation That does NOT mean I am not a Supporter .... it means I realise that after all the Kr*p we've put up with for the last Twelve years ..... our rise back to where we belong is going to take TIME ...... ie the FIVE YEAR PLAN PS ... where did I mention a Relegation battle ???? Straumur was one of Hansa Holding's largest creditors. Straumur appointed one of their directors, Andrew Bernhardt, as the new chairman. Is that their holding co. going into admin?? Why if we get 2 new players now are we still out of play off contention? One defeat does not stop us from fighting for the play offs this season. Maybe expectations is not the word I was looking for, but you are suggesting that we are out of contention for the play offs when infact we are not. It is way to early for that. It's reality peeps, not a computer game I accept your view, but we do have to act a bit quicker than you are suggesting for 2 reasons - we're on -9 and need to start winning matches plus the window closes in 2 weeks time. Would you be as happy if this squad has not been significantly strengthened? I believe it will be - and pretty quickly. This Swiss watch analogy is strange it has nothing to do with winning football matches does it? The approach you are suggesting would make more sense if we were trying to improve a good side but we are a poor side in need of major strengthening in my opinion. I might add that the 4 new signings are very encouraging! More of the same I say!

I do not think our Squad is Strong enough to mount a Promotion push .... simple as that ... do YOU honestly believe we can, with the players we currently have, bearing in mind we have two Poles who don't want to be here ??? Of course one defeat doesn't stop us "fighting for the play offs" .... but please don't try to tell me that AP has anything like a strong enough Team to do it .........He needs to replace, he will replace ..... which takes TIME IMHO, by the time he gets another two players, we will be circa 18 points from sixth ........ THAT would be a BIG ask for any team I don't think I am "over reacting" .... I think I'm being REALISTIC ...... it does NOT however mean I am any LESS a Supporter though .......
