trousers Posted 9 July, 2009 Author Share Posted 9 July, 2009 Exactly have a go at Wotte and you may as well deliver a kick in the crown jewels to our board and new owner. Decision made, be happy with it, they are and if they weren't we wouldn't have a club. Wotte like our new owners I think deserve a season before they start being negatively questioned. No wonder we are classed in the top 3 clubs with the worse fans for moaning and whinging. Couldn't make it up some people'e reaction.

SFC Chris Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 There is a 0% chance of Strachan taking the job - anybody who thinks different is mad. Not that I'd be happy if he got it either... some of his team selections, signings & conduct with the media at Celtic absolutely beggared belief. Keegan isn't the answer either. Might be worth sticking with Wotte and seeing how he gets on... with a bit of money and perhaps some Dutch connections, we may just be onto a winner. CB Fry Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 Keegan would be brilliant, and we'd power through League one with him at the helm. The criticisms of him are fair enough were we a mid table Prem team looking to finish sixth. But we are a L1 team looking to make the play offs against Yeovil, Oldham and Swindon. Keegan could deliver that stood on his head, pack the stadium (for L1), play some good football and keep our profile sky-high in the national football consciousness. Keegan would be fan-bloody-tastic.

Miltonaggro Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 I think that Wotte's loyalty should be rewarded by making him Academy Director, the job he was recruited to do. A great many Saints fans and the new owner may feel that a potential mid table finish in the third division is a poor return for a club without debt and 20K plus gates and there are a number of candidates who could potentially drive the club towards a play off place in the coming season despite the - 10 penalty. Keegan (with Tisdale as number 2) for me is the pick of the bunch...
Gravesend Saint Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 It's all academic anyway: http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/4483901.Liebherr_is_the_right_man_for_Saints__says_Wotte/ Wotte: "I signed a contract as manager for at least one year, so there is no indication they want to change that"

skintsaint Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 Christian Gross yes please, had a decent record at Spurs and was only booted as he didnt get the team playing in the 'Spurs' way and got murdered in the media...too many 1-0's
The9 Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 promotions with Fulham, Man City and Newcastle I can stand that naivety! Yeah, but even though we're now showing signs of maybe being a chequebook club (well, Keegan's probably going to think that if he gets asked anyway), I'd still rather get in someone with some actual skill and managerial ability, rather than just picking and choosing a load of players to sign who are better than the rest of the division, which is all he did with those 3 clubs. His failure to win the Prem with Newcastle in the mid-90s with an open cheque book right after Dalglish succeeded with Blackburn shows he wasn't even that great at chequebook managing when he got to the top level, and his later spells in the Prem and as England boss marked him down as an enthusiastic trier who gave up too easily. Great player in his time, but management passed him by over 10 years ago, and if all we want to do is sling money at it, get a decent manager who can handle the players and has some persistence in instead. CB Fry Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 so..the9 just because keegan was pipped at the post by man u (so many are) he is naive... ok then Quite - I'd have thought promoting Fulham from the third tier was a more relevent comparison to where we are (I believe it is the third tier). It also happened more recently than the Newcastle stuff. Not sure we're going to get far if our criteria is "better than Alex Ferguson over a league season". pap Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 Keegan doesn't seem to fit with the "build slowly" mantra coming from the club. It'd be great if he came. Think he's the perfect bloke to reboot Southampton's fortunes, for reasons that have already been enumerated above.
Give it to Ron Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 I'd still rather get in someone with some actual skill and managerial ability, rather than just picking and choosing a load of players to sign who are better than the rest of the division, which is all he did with those 3 clubs. Isn't that what all clubs do to succeed - Fergie, Chelsea, Tottenham how many clubs now rely on youth and training them up? I can name one that tried and failed miserably His failure to win the Prem with Newcastle in the mid-90s with an open cheque book right after Dalglish succeeded with Blackburn shows he wasn't even that great at chequebook managing when he got to the top level, and his later spells in the Prem and as England boss marked him down as an enthusiastic trier who gave up too easily. Didnt Dalgleish have the Jack Walker millions to spend at Blackburn? There have been quite a few managers who have failed at Newcastle - Big Sam did and look what he did at Blackburn.
