I don't recall Keegan ruling himself out during last month's media frenzy when the MLT/Keegan story broke (?)

And remember how it united and elated (most) people on here.

Surely the new regime will contact him again to see if he's still interested as a matter of due course? Afterall, Markus said in his statement yesterday that his mission is to re-engage the fans and local community. Can't think of a better way to achieve that personally.

Keegan looking after the first team and Wotte looking after the Academy would be win-win for all concerned...surely?

I think the new regime should not pander to the fans and make decisions on what they think is best for the club.

True...although they'd listen if I posted it on the Echo website ;)

I don't understand why anyone would want Keegan, at the first sign of criticism or things not going his way he would be off, just like at every other club (and England) he has been at.

Plus he's a rubbish and ridiculously naive manager.

to be fair he has not..

apart from the recent spell at loopy newcastle..he has been in his job for a couple of years at least...which apart from a few exceptions, is the norm these days

Christian Gross was seen coming down the Itchen on his yacht....well paddle boat but it was the no 7 and so he was either with MLT or KK. Should we put a bet on him?

Reminds me of an article (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/columnists/rod_liddle/article6637739.ece) I saw at the weekend. Especially this bit...

Football fans are almost always wrong; wrong about team selection, wrong about the manager, wrong about suitable owners and so on. The best clubs ensure that the supporters don’t have to pay too much to get in and are decently treated while watching their team, but otherwise ignore the demands from the terraces.
Posted

I think that yours is a good call Trousers; but as far as I know MLT was the party who sought to approach KK and the new Board would have to start a fresh approach on their own terms if this were to be considered post Pinaccle.

Keegan as a club manager gets a very bad press, but much of this is unwarranted. He has only managed three clubs, and was at Newcastle for five years in his first stint and Man City for four years - a virtual ice age in terms of Saints recent managerial history!

For me personally, he would be a fantastic choice (particularly with a younger assistant)as he would be welcomed by the vast majority of supporters, potentially add five thousand to the gate, and provide forward momentum...

Posted

I want Keegan, I reckon he would love it, just love it if he got another chance to manage down here?

Remember he has promoted teams from the old L2 & Championship. Just remind me again how many promotions Wotte has achieved again?

A real coup for a League One Side IMHO :)

Well Keegan had not managed a promotion before he managed it neither did Nigel Pearson .

Hmm, I can understand people's concerns regarding Wotte but, for me, Keegan isn't the answer.

Someone has mentioned that he has been in his previous jobs a wee while but that was until things started going wrong, first sign of bad times and off he goes!!

Either Strachan or Keegan and I would e very happy :) I know these options sound a little far fetched but a billionaire taking saints over always seemed to be far fetched and look at us now.

Wotte maybe be a nice bloke and maybe he hasn't been given a fair chance but he isn't the man to take us forward. This is a chance to make a clean break from the old and start a fresh. Also we need a manager that can attract decent players to this level of football and as others have said I don't think Wotte is going to be able do that.

Would be nice. Keegan would attract players in the transfer window too.

Keegan would make business sense, both in attendances and the fact he's a second to none motivator of players. It's a no brainer that he'd be a fantastic choice.

Posted
If I was Leibherr I would get Oldknow to fill one of those big dump trucks full of used 50's, drive down to Warsash and get Strachan to sign a 5 year contract.

Great minds....

Posted
He'd be fantastic. Plays football worth watching and would sell season tickets by the thousand. How can you possibly compare him with Wotte.

That's not the ultimate aim you know. Most clubs don't get out of the lower leagues playing pretty football which is our aim. And besides, that would mean you have to have players with the skills and intelligence to play passing attractive football.

He may be a billionaire but I don't expect him to spunk 10m+ on buying players. It sounds to me like their looking to build the team slowly and make us self sufficient.

Posted

Keegan would be stale marzipan and Strachan the fruit and nuts.

Wotte is staying accept it and I am seriously wondering if some of you have listened or read the interviews especially the one with Andy Oldknow.

'We are a league 1 club and it's pointless spending money as if we are a Premier league club'.

A small amount will be available for players and we have a manager with more than the potential of boot boy Pearson. We as fans need to repay the faith and achieve crowds of 20k before the new owner will invest anymore and rightly so.

Speculate about new player signings with a degree of realism by all means but stop this speculation over our manager who frankly deserve the same respect he has afforded us over a very difficult time.

What was it Nick Hornby famously said about football fans:?

'Their natural state is bitter disappointment whatever the score.'

One day in to a new era many thought we might not see and you're already trying to undermine the new owner and his board over their decision making.

I dread to think what happens if we don't overhaul our 10 point deficit in a minimum of 5 games. Some of you trolls need to get a sense of perspective and acceptance.

Oh and if you must discuss managers lets not discuss a couple of yesterday's men of whom 1 is not really interested anymore and the other chose the easy route and didn't deliver.

For me it doesn't have to be pretty passing football, just exciting. Sure, we want to go up but the two are not mutually exclusive.

Keegan and Tisdale would be brilliant. Hopefully it'd make it exciting and there is some transition planning in built into that relationship.

Come December, for all the saftey we have through our new found riches, we'll still be going to Hartlepool on a Tuesday night. Much better to go up there and thrash out a 4-3 win then struggle to a 0-0 draw!

Strachan now IMO.

Strachan never IMO - struggled to win a two horse league and failed miserably in the Champions League. The last thing we need is a loose canon that Strachan has definiely become IMO - a poor man's Scottish version of Brian Clough judging by some of his press conferences and without the talent or the humour.

An internationally known manager would be a great magnet to attract the sort of player who could get us out of this division. All of a sudden, because of Markus Liebherr, our profile in the game has already been raised quite a bit. The appointment of a serious manager is the next logical step to get people to sit up and pay attention to our ambitions. Where we were last week, nobody serious would have considered us a good prospect to manage, whereas now that the owner could listen seriously to the requirements of the manager when discussing the type of player needed, things are entirely different. Before, we were financially unable to afford even some of the players already here, let alone the ones who we might want. Now, although the manager would not have a blank cheque book, at least the money is there if a player is deemed to be essential either to buy or to keep. In short, we now have options.

If there are either ambitious young managers, or more experienced good ones out there available, they could either kick-start their career again, or make a name for themselves here.

Your views on managers are insane.

At last some good sense,we need a NAME as Manager to attract the tried and tested and the young aspiring players, not a media junkie who has proved nothing at the club on the field. For those who want to keep him Christmas may be too late to push for the play-offs and another upheaval. It would be wonderful for the Club to pick a good'un now and keep him for a few years..there are plenty of examples that this works.

The rest of your argument is fair comment, apart from this, which I take to be there because of the difficulty that you have in posting an opinion without trolling.

Pearson has proven his ability to keep us in the Championship and also his capability in getting another team promoted back into this division from the league that we will be in. Wotte was in charge when we were relegated from this division and has no past history of success in the third division in this country. As such, Pearson would be an ideal candidate to manage us right now, as his track record proves he has the ability to achieve what we require to achieve.

What is this potential that you feel Wotte has and how has it been proven?

Sorry but I dont want Keegan, he quite simply is not that good imho. If Wotte leaves or is shown the door, then we will need a hard working and leading example of a manger....especially for this league. Not quite sure yet as to who that person could be...or who is left a free agent:cool:

Based on some perhaps unsurprising negative comments over 3 ex-managers all with question marks over their heads, IMO.

Yes I am insane but I am also trying to be realistic in line with the message from our new owners. Wotte spoke to the Swiss weeks ago and the decision was made I would be amazed if their go back on that commitment.

BTW if we could take an ex-manager back it would be Dave Jones but then again he like Wotte understands the word 'dignity'.

I think a few on here will have to set their expectations ALOT lower 19C.

Dave Jones

Not for me, he should have been sacked before he was put on gardening leave. We were awful at the time. Look at Cardiff this season, going well and threw it away. Got some Cardiff fans at work who were shocked by how the team folded.

So when Pinnacle were on the verge of suceeding Wotte was on the verge of leaving. When it fell flat and the Swiss were back on the scene he hung around, dignity my arse more like he knows he is better off in English footyball and this is his only chance.

I don't share the same opinion as you Wes with regard to Pearsons ability but I accept 'boot boy' was a term left over from the cold war and I shouldn't try and fight fire with fire.

With regards to Wotte he did make an undeniable improvement in the team's performances and in one or two important individuals notably, MCG and Gillett. Undoubtedly the players were rocked by administration and rightly or wrongly when their heads are gone not to mention the media frenzy, pressure and fan expectations Wotte job became extremely difficult perhaps worse as he was seen as a appointment of the devil incarnate. Losing Gillet to injury was also a major disappointment because his battling performances in midfield were hugely important in that run of wins.

Up to Administration I think Wotte's record was favourable with that of Pearson and arguably with much less playing resources and no money for loans of the like of Richard Wright. In fact with no changes to the squad he turned the team around and delivered an excellent string of wins against teams we had no right at the time to beat and then faltered against the easier teams because IMO of outside issues and Gillett's injury.

Wotte has conducted himself with professionalism, loyalty and dignity as did Pearson but undeniably Pearson had the easier ride comparing their time at Saints and no one was marching to have him kicked out after one game.

I suppose like all managers including Pearson we don't know how good a manager with potential will be but Wotte has many good attributes and IMO he deserves the chance and afforded the respect he has afforded the club and us fans. I don't expect him to achieve much this season and would take mid table safety given he has essentially 4 weeks left to put a squad together before our first game. Judging by Oldknow's comments I don't think they expect much more and the 2010/11 season will be the one, and by which time we will all know for a fact the capability of Wotte to deliver promotion or not, I think he will.

Exactly have a go at Wotte and you may as well deliver a kick in the crown jewels to our board and new owner. Decision made, be happy with it, they are and if they weren't we wouldn't have a club. Wotte like our new owners I think deserve a season before they start being negatively questioned.

No wonder we are classed in the top 3 clubs with the worse fans for moaning and whinging. Couldn't make it up some people'e reaction. Lowe got 10 years, Liebherr gets 1 day!

You don't know what you're talking about. Strachan won three titles in four years at Celtic, which is more than Martin O'Neil, who is viewed as some sort of managerial god. He also got Celtic to the knockout stages of the Champions League twice, something MON never did. That's quite an achievement considering the budget he had at Celtic. He was only unpopular with Celtic fans because he wasn't 'Celtic minded'.

Really? I bow to your better knowledge but I can't remember them getting to the knockout stages. Celtic and Rangers a two horse race and during that time who had all the money and still do?

No, next question.

We have a man in place, he will do a decent job when freed from the shackles of poverty and board interference.
