stevegrant Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 If you were trying to buy a club and the club is selling its best players, surely the price would be dropping. Like a rock. I'm surprised Sunderland have offered that much for the player as well - clubs with known financial difficulties are usually easy pickings. Wes Tender Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 I wonder if Dubai Phil or somebody else with Arabian connections can comment on something that I was interested in? Apparently Fahim styles himself Dr., although he is not entitled to do so. If true, then that points to a big ego and personal vanity. But what about the "Al" part? My understanding from the case of Fayed is that he uses the "Al" where he has no entitlement to it, again for reasons of personal aggrandizement and ego. Is this etiquet throughout the Arab world, or are there variations between Egypt and Dubai? I only ask as if he is not entitled to either the Dr. or the Al, then it would be an indication of a seriously enlarged ego. By the way, that is consistent with the suggestion that he might have some personal input into team selections, just like our dearly departed ex chairman. mickn Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 Radio5 just said that Sunderland have had a bid for Crouch accepted. IF this is so close to completion why sell the assets? Sounds very similar to our own DMG/Pinnacle situation. I don't think it's a money issue, I think it's because they haven't got enough kit to go round after the collapse of their shirt supplier. Apparently Crouch refused to share his shirt with anyone and was actually caught taking it home with him.

Wes Tender Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 Heims is the rumour Not according to the man himself, if this article in the Guardian is anything to go by. Al Fahim stated initially that his newly formed vehicle, Al Fahim Asia Associates, would buy Portsmouth, and that the money "has been raised through the network of Falcon Equity from Asian and Middle Eastern investors." Falcon Equity is an investment fund based in the low tax financial centres of Switzerland and Jersey, of which Al Fahim himself is the non-executive chairman. After that, he said that Al Fahim Asia Associates will, in fact, be providing the money itself and Falcon are acting only as advisors. Yesterday Holger Heims, Falcon's managing partner, confirmed that. "Sulaiman Al Fahim will be raising the money," said Heims. "We are not raising a fund to buy the club. The finance at many Premier League clubs is in flux at the moment, and we are advising particularly on how Portsmouth will be financed after the takeover." If you mention me anymore people will think you're Father Christmas. I think this will all go through eventually, but nowhere near the reported 60 million. (You could buy Everton for that money - According to Kenwright) Dr Dubai, has gayboy over a barrell. Gayboys loan notes have dried up and he now needs to get shot, the longer this all takes, the less its all worth and the nearer the season kickoff, the more vunerable they look. My guess is that somewhere towards the end of this month, they will complete for an undisclosed fee Unless of course the pizza takeaway in New york, is doing incredibly well :smt044 I think you're spot on. Al Fahim is haggling over the price and knows he can knock Gaydamak down. The only thing you're wrong about is the pizza operation which I thought everyone knew was Benelux, not New York. there are so many questions being asked with no answers. Their star players are being sold off. They have no manager It a month until the start of the season There have been a lot of posts similar to this one. Can anyone see the irony in Saints fans posting that Pompey are just a month from the start of the season with no manager appointed, best players sold off, very small squad, lack of time for team to gel etc etc? They are not close to completion as a price has yet to be agreed between gaydamak & the buyer. If you were trying to buy a club and the club is selling its best players, surely the price would be dropping. I'm sure the price is dropping. Corporate Ho Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 FMPR, joking aside who is Heims? Heims is the guy who tried to buy Chelsea for £700m last season (Abramovich turned him down). There's lots of talk that, as he's involved with Al Fahim in Falcon Equity that he's the/ one of Al Fahim's backers. He's certainly advising Al Fahim. Read into that what you will. "The German fund manager who says he is putting together a bid for Chelsea today said he had assembled a consortium of eight international investors interested in buying the club. Holger Heims, an investment manager at Falcon Equity, said in an interview with Reuters that he and a group of six to seven other investors from Europe, the Middle East and Asia (does that sound familiar to anyone?) were preparing a takeover offer for the club but that they would not launch a hostile bid. He said Dr Sulaiman al Fahim, who represented Sheikh Mansour in his £200m takeover of Manchester City but was later sidelined after making a series of intemperate claims about transfer targets, was also working with the Switzerland-based private equity firm on a proposal to buy the west London club. So far no talks had been held with the owner, Roman Abramovich, Heims said. "We have no intention of launching a hostile takeover. This is only possible as a friendly deal," he added. Heims said he aimed to push the Chelsea brand further and saw strong growth potential in Asia and the Arab world. Heims declined to say how much the group was prepared to pay for Chelsea but said the investment had to add up in the medium to long run. Chelsea's chief executive, Peter Kenyon, has insisted that Abramovich, whose other investments have been hit by the global economic slump, is as committed to the club as ever. The Russian oligarch has threatened to sue the Sunday Times after it claimed he was looking for a buyer in the Middle East and earlier this month Kenyon told fans that any suggestion he was looking to sell was "rubbish". "There has been a lot of rumour and speculation surrounding Chelsea and the owner's commitment to the club," Kenyon told a fan's forum this month. "I can assure you on his behalf that this is totally unfounded and anything else you might read about this is rubbish. Chelsea is not for sale. The owner has not and is not looking to sell his interest in the club and he remains as committed as ever." Chelsea made a loss of £74.8m in 2007 but have promised to break even by 2010. The club believe that when their financial statements for 2008 are made public in the middle of next month, they will underline Abramovich's ongoing commitment. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/jan/27/chelsea-takeover-holger-heims-roman-abramovich Ho I personally think that Gayboy is just trying to get back as much of the money he has invested in the team before he bugs out, and sells for a fraction of the £60m that was reported price, I think that the Fake Doc is just going to keep droping the price by the amount that the players are being sold for, and you will keep selling until the Fake Doc can pick you up for a song. I think you're on the right lines. I don't believe any of the players could be sold without Al Fahim's consent, given that he's looking to buy the club and any sale would affect the value he must give his OK and that would obviously affect what he's willing to pay. Not sure you're right about what we would have to spend to improve the squad. Johnson is a big loss but is only a right back and as I've said, the widely reported "exodus" of players is nearly all deadwood that never played for the first team (Djimi Traore anyone?). Look at it this way, the only reason Al Fahim would want us is if we're in the Prem - why would he fail to spend the money necessary to keep us there? It wouldn't make sense. Fans are naturally anxious to see what happens but if the takeover happens (and everything I'm told and read suggests it will) I'm confident we'll have enought o finish at least mid table. Don't believe we'll be making huge signings (as some on here seem to be saying I and other Pompey fans are suggesting - show me where I've posted that please) but we'll sign players good enough to do the job. I don't believe any of the players could be sold without Al Fahim's consent, given that he's looking to buy the club and any sale would affect the value he must give his OK and that would obviously affect what he's willing to pay. I'd also add that he also has very little control over an individual player wanting to leave as was the case with Johnson (although I suspect that transfer had been in negotiation since January or maybe earlier) and possibly Crouch. Not sure you're right about what we would have to spend to improve the squad. Johnson is a big loss but is only a right back and as I've said, the widely reported "exodus" of players is nearly all deadwood that never played for the first team (Djimi Traore anyone?). Point certainly taken about the mass of deadwood that's gone, but it's also deadwood that was useful for covering for injuries. If Crouch is going to Sunderland (who most would have said are direct rivals in terms of league position) for £12m, you're probably going to have to spend at least that amount to replace him and Defoe - unless you've got a very astute manager in situ (or indeed ANY manager at the moment - and yes, I realise we're in an identical situation there ) that's going to be incredibly difficult to achieve. The whole spine of the team from last season has been ripped to bits, Campbell will presumably go elsewhere (arguably the Campbell you signed left around September last season anyway), your main wide threat (Johnson) has already gone, Diarra went in January, Davis has gone, and it now seems pretty much nailed on that pretty much the only goalscorer left at the club is on his way as well. It's going to need major surgery and - much like us - time's running out in which to carry that out. Look at it this way, the only reason Al Fahim would want us is if we're in the Prem - why would he fail to spend the money necessary to keep us there? It wouldn't make sense. The only plausible alternative is that he sees the utter tripe on display at a number of clubs who are also likely to be fighting the drop next season and takes a bit of a calculated gamble that you'll be able to ride it out for a season with what you've got plus a handful of cheap buys from the money brought in from sales. The one thing that baffles me the most is why - when the stakes are so high in terms of the numbers - Storrie hasn't pulled his finger out and sorted the manager situation out. It's clearly going to do nobody any good, and will more than likely get in the way of the club signing any players so they're actually able to fill the subs bench on the opening day. Even if they give someone a one-year rolling contract so it's not too much to pay off if the new owner wants to appoint someone else, at least it gives a vague impression of some sort of stability. FMPR Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 I'll bet a friendly pint Granty that within one week of our takeover we will have signed more players than in one week of yours?
stevegrant Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 I'll bet a friendly pint Granty that within one week of our takeover we will have signed more players than in one week of yours? Wouldn't take much, to be fair - I think I'll pass. Are you going to Leeds this year?
shurlock Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 Pompey struggled to get goals last season, selling their best striker to another team that drew blanks is pretty ominous....
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 I'll bet a friendly pint Granty that within one week of our takeover we will have signed more players than in one week of yours? I wouldn't bet against that either! However I think that it's not a race, more like a plod. Your lot are still in the PL and have the advantage of a secured, strong level of income. We are in a fizzy pop division and our income is disproportionally relative. What remains to be seen is how the respective owners conduct their business. I believe our new owner is looking for a steady and sustainable growth after first stabilising the club. I couldn't possibly imagine how your prospective new owner may play his cards. He probably will have a lot more money to (loose term here) 'throw at the club'. As long as who he buys brings a good level of success (a return on the investment) then he'll be happy. However, what he deems as a good level of success is open to conjecture. Maybe another Cup win? Qualifying for Europe with a long run there? If not then he may cut and run, which admittedly our owner could do, but I have a level of confidence in our new man because he's not looking to win massively in the immediate future. NickG Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 Even with 10 point deduction, a late appointed half decent manager, with money to spend (even both in January) should be able to stabalise us in this division. The premiership is different. Even with those players and a good manager in place Portsmouth would be amongst the favorites for relegation. It is not inconceivable, if this isn't sorted very quickly, that Hart and his 10 players will have a Derby style start - very hard to get back from in that hard league. qwertySFC Posted 15 July, 2009 Share Posted 15 July, 2009 Been widely reported that our shirts for this season were delivered way before Canterbury collapsed and are waiting in a warehouse to have the new sponsors name put on the front. Keep up. Location now disclosed
