"I can't sleep tonight

Everybody saying everything's alright

Still I can't close my eyes

I'm seeing a tunnel at the end of all these lights

Sunny days

Where have you gone?

I get the strangest feeling you belong

Why does it always rain on me?

Is it because I lied when I was seventeen?

Why does it always rain on me?

Even when the sun is shining

I can't avoid the lightning"

Got to wonder what's going through Tal Ben Haim's mind right now... He only signed a four year deal to play under Paul Hart in August, but now find's himself playing for Avram Grant (again).

In case you missed it the first time around, they don't exactly see eye-to-eye:

"Jose Mourinho is the reason I came to Chelsea," said Ben Haim, "and if I knew Avram grant was going to be the coach I would have signed for another club." ... "I knew nothing good would come for me with Grant as Chelsea coach." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/2297506/Pressure-mounts-on-Chelseas-Avram-Grant.html

Oh dear...

Mid-January must be crunch time.

All the lenders and creditors will have been told of the Sky money's imminent arrival, it was the little bright spot on the horizon so there will be quite a bundle to try and get hold of it.

When it becomes apparent that it has been used for other debts there will be no reason to wait, that could be winding-up order/byebye secured assets time.

Presumably in the meantime Storrie will find another small high interest loan to try and see them through January, this will be paraded as...

'vital investment that will allow the club to move forward with new stadium plans and squad-strengthening', when in reality it will be enough to cover another wage bill.

And I note that he was keen to point out this week that he himself has a couple of years contract that would need paying off should they offload him.

Like Paul Hart, they cannot afford to keep him, and they can't afford to pay him off.

Which reminds me, when they paid up Redknapp's Saints contract and paid us compensation, was that an amount that would eventually keep us afloat an extra month and give us the opportunity to secure our new owners?

I would like to see it that way!

I think it is much more likely that they have paid £2m of the tax bil.

Dead right. It seems every time Pompey send out a cheque, however small, it's accompanied by a press release celebrating the fact. (although I wonder if they're being issued on their Barclays account...)

So who from their current squad will be off to the African nations, loans ending or sold in a fire sale?

African Nations:

Nadir Belhadj; Kevin-Prince Boateng; Hassan Yebda; John Utaka; Aruna Dindane; N****wo Kanu

Loans (possibly) ending in Jan:

Jamie O'Hara (All other players on loan are for the whole season I'm afraid)

Sold in a fire sale...

hmmm, once you remove the loanee's, then take out the geriatrics, who I can't see commanding much of a transfer fee (Hayden Mullins; Richard Hughes; Papa Bouba Diop; Michael Brown; Steve Finnan; Angelos Basinas; N****wo Kanu; Hermann Hreiðarsson). Then take out the untested youth, who aren't really worth much at the moment. You are then left with the following players who might be able to command a reasonalble transfer fee:

Asmir Begovic - Looks like a good young keeper - say £1.5M for the potential?

Marc Wilson - Defender, 22, prem experience say £1M?

Kevin-Prince Boateng - They paid £4M(ish) for him in the summer

Younes Kaboul - 23, despite being error prone has >50 premier games under his belt. Spurs paid £7M for him, so I guess he'd be worth at about £4M

Mike Williamson - Never worth the £2-3M paid for him, but still only 26. Coudl see him moving on for £1-2M

Tal Ben Haim - 27, and reasonable quality. Expect him to fetch £4M

Nadir Belhadj - 27, the paid about £3M for him.

John Utaka - 27, Celtic are sniffing about. The Skates paid £7M... would still be worth something (even with only 6 goals from >50 Pompey appearances... can that be right?)

David James - 39! Don't think he's worth more than a few hundred thousand. He can't have more than one or two seasons left.... A perfect signing for Spurs then

Now everyone knows that Pompey are, shall be say, a tad down on their luck, so I doubt there will be any top-dollar transactions. If they are very lucky, they might just be able to fetch £15-20 million by off-loading that lot. Which should see them cover the debt-repayment for a few months yet.

With Janurary approaching, I can't see anyone calling in the administrator's just yet. Obviously, if no new cash is found, and the transfer window closes without these players being moved on, I can see the creditors getting rather twitchy...

So assuming they're all cashed in/absent/released, could you name a first team? Could you even HAVE a first team? ('You' not being you, obviously!)

The way Pompey have been run for the past few years, I'd be surprised if they've actually paid the publicised price for any of their players.

Well I imagine they'd need to raid the reserves, as they would be VERY thin in the keeping and defending positions... but, out of their current first team they could just about assemble this team (if fit):

Ashdown

Finnan Hreiðarsson Mokoena Hughes

Diop O'Hara Yebda Brown

Dindane Piquionne

Subs from:

Niemi !!

Vanden Borre

Mullins

Tommy Smith

Kanu

Obviously, that isn't possible during the African Nations!

I seem to remember seeing somewhere that the Sky money is Jan is only 7m, is that right? There's no way that'll cover their debts coming due. As for the we have several banks queuing up, I find that hard to believe TBH.

That might be the net figure after Watford and other have been paid.

Nope, £7m is all there is and that may be diverted.

£80M DEBT CRISIS

PORTSMOUTH are sinking into a debt nightmare that could eventually reach a crippling £80million.

Almost half the money is owed to ex-owner Sacha Gaydamak, who is now consulting lawyers.

The Franco-Russian businessman still owns 10 acres of land surrounding Fratton Park, which Pompey were meant to buy off him.

But the club have failed to make their first down payment and yesterday they denied they were on the verge of administration.

However, The Sun can reveal the true extent of club's dire financial plight.

Agents' fees and outstanding debts to clubs for players account for £20m, while a further £11m payment is due to Gaydamak and £8m to the Inland Revenue.

In the summer Portsmouth are required to find a further £20m to service old debts - and another substantial payment to Gaydamak.

They also have to service a £19m loan from Hong Kong-based businessman Balram Chainrai, which is secured against their ground.

Aside from debt, the failure to buy the land around Fratton Park means Pompey, whose capacity is short of 20,000, cannot expand.

It effectively means Ali Al-Faraj, the club's third owner since the summer, owns just a playing squad which he has failed to pay on time for two successive months!

Did they really buy Boateng? I thought i saw that he was a loan. You never know who they buy or loan. Remember when they were said to have bought Lauren Robert and it was ust an option to buy.I suspect that some of those players are really loan with options to buy if they are a success. It is all smoke and mirrors down there.

I don't see more than £12M of value in that squad, especially when Harry starts helping himself to bargains.

Which just brings into great clarity for anyone who hasn't worked it out yet - the figures do not stack up! Without a massive instant gift (NOT LOAN!) it must be over.

The only value in the business is the ability to generate Prem TV money, but even if they stay up they have signed that money away so a new owner can't get at it for years.

There is no income.

Assets -

Playing squad -£12M - get out while you can guys.

Ground - secured against £15M debt - whoosh, there it goes.

Any adjacent land or training ground plot not owned by the arms dealer? - secured against another £10M?

Whoops, it's flats.

Selling EVERYTHING would only clear half the debt leaving an administrator with little to work from -

For sale - the name 'Portsmouth FC'

£20M.

Signed a 3 year deal in August for (reportedly) £4Million.

Particularly like that at the end of the article. Details about Al Faraj are slowly emerging, with the Premier League led to believe his business interests include contracts with the Saudi army and a property portfolio in London.

Nothing to do with Gaydermack (gun running) there then maybe another reason they've got involved in Pompey.

Seems strange the list of characters that have become involved so far & all in it for short term as it seems. Al Faraj has even said it in an interview. So if I was a Pompey fan (god forbid) I'd be extremely worried.

But as I'm not :smt043.

aye, thanks for that ^^

Hm...

Just imagine... they struggle on and then go into admin after the cutoff date and get relegated. Meanwhile, Saints get promoted, enjoying two wins at Wembley.

We'd be able to enjoy the entire summer being above Pompey as they'd have a points deduction :D

lol

HARRY REDKNAPP was last night blamed for Portsmouth's spiral into a debt nightmare.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/2768674/I-blame-Harry-for-this-mess.html

I like this bit at the end...

"But he's not being side-lined - when we changed the manager recently Peter [storrie] was fully involved. He's also away trying to bring in new investors. We're all working on that, to try and make that happen.

"Hopefully there will be some good news on that front in January."

Now maybe I'm just experiencing Deja Vu, but I'm sure I have heard all that somewhere before in the not too distant past. If I could just put my finger on where...

now they are blaming Hr perhaps his toys will come out of the pram and Ohara will be recalled. lol

That would indeed cause much lollage!

I think its unlikely though. Al Fahim isn't likely to go mouthing off to the press without consuulting the other interested parties and then have it back fire on him is he. Not somebody with as much media experience as Al Fahim.

It's all about Al Faraj now, you know, with his 90% stake but not enough money to pay the players.
