Oh my God, I was exactly the same... rarely understood the hatred and was never really that bothered about them - until last season... whilst they were laughing at our rather sad demise, little did we know they foundations were being laid (or is it stripped away?) for an even more comical fall from grace. And I still find it genuinely funny that Saints fans, despite their club being 2 divisions below them and -10 at one point could still look east and find them amusing. And you know, it wasn't just for sport, for fun or to deflect our own troubles - they are genuinely, finger-pointingly funny. Their pandering for the Sky cameras, their small away following, the fact they cant even sell out a shed for home games, their finances, directors, managers, players, the way they were duped and mismanaged so disgustingly (whilst they were giving us the v's and saying they were living the good life)... everything. It's been a brilliant last few months... Every day, a newspaper prints something to add to the comedy And TDD... to play them again... brilliant. To play them and stuff them... AMAZING. aintforever Posted 9 December, 2009 Share Posted 9 December, 2009 It is an amazing reversal of fortune, if you rewind just a few months we were facing the very real possibility of going out of business and starting up in the Blue Square and they just landed an Arab billionaire and were talking about Champions League football. There's a real chance now of us being in the same league as them next year, us with a billionare, them facing financial ruin and the possibility of an AFC Portsmouth in the BS. Dark Munster Posted 9 December, 2009 Share Posted 9 December, 2009 American Football has an interesting system. The team that finishes bottom has first pick of the next season's college draft, and every team has a maximum amount that it can spend in total on players' wages, no matter how many players they have. Look at how varied the Superbowl winners are to see how it works. Mind you, franchises there can up sticks and move to another city thousands of miles away. True, but at least they don't have the kiss of death known as relegation.

Dark Munster Posted 9 December, 2009 Share Posted 9 December, 2009 LOL I tell you what...the next time we play them at SMS it is going to be very hostile...we proper owe them a spanking on the pitch and the saints fans will litterally sing their hearts out like never before..... we owe them big time I have a dream. Next year the two teams meet at SMS in the CCC, about 10 matches before the end of the season. Saints spank P****y, a result which then confirms our automatic promotion to the PL and their relegation to L1. What could be sweeter?

Whitey Grandad Posted 9 December, 2009 Share Posted 9 December, 2009 Welcome fishy friend, we haven't heard from you for some time. These must be worrying times for you but unfortunately I don't believe that the club will go out of business. I suppose that we shall just have to settle for a few decades of anonymity in the 'lower leagues'. At least we have confronted our worst fears and are looking upwards at the stars whereas Pompey are staring down the toilet bowl of doom. With my business hat on it does the region no good at all to have two clubs in the doggy-doos so I hope that you stabilise eventually, so long as it's below us. Sleep well, if you can. PES Posted 10 December, 2009 Share Posted 10 December, 2009 Things are looking bleak for Pompey, and I'd be a liar if I said I was not concerned that in a few years time our league positions wont be reversed. As one who never gloated at your fall from grace it's all the more galling that some are celebrating a situation that has not even happened yet (even if it is pending), I guess that says more about those individuals characters more than anything? If it turns out to be a 6/7 season stint at the top for Pompey, then for a small club we did rather we'll, didn't we? even adding to our set of Honours, one of the few things (If your honest) your club is lagging behind us on! I remember all the arrogant jokes about from Saints fans upon Pompeys Football League triumph and Promotion 'Three seasons in the Prem, Autumn, Winter and Spring' christ some Saints fans even went as far as to record a record crowing on about it! (In retrospect, you'd have to agree, thats pretty cringe-worthy!) So should it end, it's been an adventure, one I'd always hoped for, not all great, but neither sets of fans need to fill the gaps in for each other anymore, you'll be under no illusions about the Premiership and most 'older' Pompey fans know all about the football league. This is a word that gets banded about alot, but having a very good understanding of both sets of fans, the truth is you do 'Belong' in the premier league and in truth, I feel Pompey are better suited to the football league. You in the Prem achieving nothing yet lording it over us from a higher league, and us looking up jealously sniping at you, going on about how your fans are **** etc and how you never won anything. A position most older sets of fans will be all too familiar with and maybe even comfortable?

Crab Lungs Posted 10 December, 2009 Share Posted 10 December, 2009 Well, I have to say it was nice to read a balanced post from a Skate (we've been so used to the comical Ali's who come on here with their 'problem? what problem!?' attitude.) Can't say I want Portsmouth to go out of business, though I do want them to experience what we've just experienced after some of the not-so good natured comments that were levelled our way since the financial troubles. That and Peter Storrie - horrible, lying little man. Besides, I can't wait to play them again - gotta love derby games! rallyboy Posted 10 December, 2009 Share Posted 10 December, 2009 PES you are indeed tarnished by those around you. There are many on here who cared little of the rivalry until a significant number of Pompey fans came to St Marys and abused the memory of Ted Bates. Shout 'scummer', peddle made up stories about strikes, gloat about holding the FA cup during the war, but abusing the dead in the name of rivalry? When Flahavan died there was respect from all other fans and I thought that that moment would be enough of a reminder, but the appalling display that night showed that there is a majority within the blue few that bring shame on the club. That incident above others drives the dislike on here, and the flames were nicely fanned six months ago when we hit rock bottom and had to take our punishment for financial stupidity. Add all the gloating over Maradona and the stadium in the harbour and an observer might note that Pompey is run by clowns and ripe for humiliation from all corners of the league - if you put Watford into administration as well it will be a crime against football and will make Pompey the most unpopular club in the land - and not in a good way. On the bright side, I don't see the club disappearing, just downsizing a tad. And as someone who is happy to gloat, I'm not doing it with mates of mine who are on the wrong side of the river, I'm doing it at those gobby, cross-eyed, sister-worrying simpletons who booed Ted and who jumped on the overpriced bandwagon when Pompey paid £150M for a 1-0 win over Cardiff. The hangers on were all out there on the common to celebrate that day, but where are they now? Without massive immediate investment there could soon be only one real club in Hampshire, yes we are currently way behind in terms of league status, but the future is so very red and white. Joensuu Posted 10 December, 2009 Share Posted 10 December, 2009 Well said PES. I love the rivalry and love the banter, but whenever it spills over into hatred or violence it's gone too far. I don't want to see the end of Pompey. Perhaps someone should start a poll: What would you most like to happen to Pompey? A) Admin, followed by Pompey ceasing to exist, or B) Admin, followed by 5 years of hell. angelman Posted 10 December, 2009 Share Posted 10 December, 2009 I don't want Pompey to go under either. I started off finding the fat Sheik quite amusing but as time goes on, I do feel a little sorry for the fans. There is only a certain amount of suffering that I want them to go through, and I think that now is about time for administration to come and put an end to it. Hopefully then, there will be a buyer but I do fear that they may well have to fold. A bit of friendly rivalry makes things more interesting. No need to be the **** out of each other though. Master Bates Posted 10 December, 2009 Share Posted 10 December, 2009 The latest statement from PFC. http://www.portsmouthfc.co.uk/News/PFC-Statement.aspx I wonder when the next one will be where they apologise to the media just like the Faraj interview incident. Under Weststand Posted 10 December, 2009 Share Posted 10 December, 2009 (edited) Things are looking bleak for Pompey, and I'd be a liar if I said I was not concerned that in a few years time our league positions wont be reversed. (would have thought its more about, still having a club. Something we both now know about.)As one who never gloated at your fall from grace it's all the more galling that some are celebrating a situation that has not even happened yet (even if it is pending),(I guess a lot of this is a reaction to feelings that are still raw on here, about what we went through when it seemed we were going out of buisness, and a number of your less intelligent fans came on our message board to laugh & gloat at us. Especially at the time it looked like you'd just hit the jackpot with an Arab Billionaire. Now I have my moments of sympathy for the likes of you PES then when I think back a few months to some of the Pompey web site's & mongs on here, seemed to me to be the majority of Pompey fans were relishing every second of our demise well my sympathy begins to wane.) I guess that says more about those individuals characters more than anything?(I wouldn't wish on any football fan what we went through in the summer, however without much sympathy from your end not really unexpected. Well I'm sorry but you will just have to excuse us for having a laugh at your expense on a SAINTS message board. I have not taken the opportunity to go gloating on a Pompey message board's and stay having a laugh here.) If it turns out to be a 6/7 season stint at the top for Pompey, then for a small club we did rather we'll, didn't we? even adding to our set of Honours, one of the few things (If your honest) your club is lagging behind us on! Yes you won another trophy possibly at the expense of you club. will it still be worth it then PES? Yes you've won more trophy's than us, but it could well turn out to be the most expensive cup win of all time. I know that living through the summer that I wouldn't trade my club against 1 single cup win. A lot of you seem to think you can get out of this with no consequences, well unfortunately there are as we found out. At least we put our money into something a little more concrete than a dream. Oh in fact it was concrete it was a new stadium. I fear for you PES as it will be boring without a true rival, so I hope you survive just that you survive below us again . P.S they have just read a statement from Pompey on Sky News. they state their not going into admin, refute the scurrilous press statements, they are working hard all around the world to secure a refinance deal Bla Bla Bla. Whitey Grandad Posted 10 December, 2009 Share Posted 10 December, 2009 True, but at least they don't have the kiss of death known as relegation. Yes, that's true but I'd rather be relegated than have the whole club relocated somewhere anonymous, like Milton Keynes.
Whitey Grandad Posted 10 December, 2009 Share Posted 10 December, 2009 I feel for Watford there, it's not their fault, they sold in good faith (which incidentally is the only thing seemingly keeping the Skates going and it is FAST running out.) I wasn't aware that the football money could be 'blocked.' Talk about a good way to scupper a business plan! From what I have read the TV money will be diverted from Pompey to Watford. This will reduce Pompey's debts but perhaps not in the way the would have wanted.
Frank's cousin Posted 10 December, 2009 Share Posted 10 December, 2009 I maybe wrong here but I suspect that Pompey will be bailed out - A lot will depend though on how things go on the pitch. If it looks increasingly likely that they will get relegated, then the offers diminish or dry up as they become a less attractive proposition given the investment required. The question then is will the Premier league step in any way to prevent their global brand being seen for what it is - A system that encourages far too great a risk in chasing impossible dreams (the smaller clubs are simply never going to compete with teh top 6 or so, so the gap keeps widening), or will they hope they get relagted so they wash their hands of them and let the FL deal with the mess? If Pompey look like theycan stay up, then they may get lucky with investment because its still a draw, but the financial risks taken by The board and encouraged by Redknapp seems has left them in a poition for having nothing to show for their debt and thus no real tangible assetts to attract investors during a global recession. I woudl never wish teh kind of crap we went through on any club, but it does stick in teh throat that we were ultimately punished not for trying to 'win trophies' or buy success by risking heavily on players and wages, but by investing in the very things any sound business hsoudl - infrastructure and tangible assets that have a long term impact on the club.. yet we are punished in teh same way as those clubs who by tehir own admission have borrowed beyond their means for fleeting success. Whitey Grandad Posted 10 December, 2009 Share Posted 10 December, 2009 I agree TDD.. I just hope we meet them again soon and we do turn them over. Meanwhile, this just.... numbed me. It made me smile. I do like the 'PAY UP POMPEY'

hutch Posted 10 December, 2009 Share Posted 10 December, 2009 I agree, Frank's Cousin. I think the PL will try to help them to avoid admin while they remain in the PL where they can. But I don't think they'll help them in any way to stay up. They will pass the buck to Mawhinger & Co. And the FL will have no sympathy when they get to the CCC. Their best bet at the moment is to do their best to stay up with no resources (which they won't), but at least hang onto the parachute payments for next year. Otherwise they really are ****ed. The trouble is Frank, what is there actually there to invest in, a load of debts? The P*rtsmouth brand as a Premier League outfit? That's about all and that is looking increasingly unlikely to continue. Who actually owns what there? Gaydarmak the ground and surrounding property? Either of the fake sheiks? Apparently very little of their own money has gone ito the club, it's nearly all borrowed. This Chanrai geezer, who is apparently ploughing money in for no share ownership, so presumably more loans? IMO Administration is the only way they will ever get out of this mess because I can't see anybody coming in to completely wipe their debts, buy the property for the ground and training facilities and fund the rebuilding at both and then fund the playing squad transfers to halt their slide. I wonder whether Watford could start winding-up proceedings against them if they don't get the money owed?

dellgirl Posted 10 December, 2009 Share Posted 10 December, 2009 I have always wondered why Pompey attracts such dodgy owners who never seem quite right and in a different way 'Arry has done for them as he did for us,always ready to cut and run when a bigger cheque book is waved in front of him. Peter 'teflon' Storrie is a legend in all the wrong meaning of the word, and the supporters I have met are truly illiterate, thugish and not very clean. It is sad for a proud old City to have such a manky football club to support. We are now so proud of our club again, but even in our darkest days there was a smell of decline and anguish but never squalor.
