Pompey Takeover Saga

Astonishingly the Russians appear to have an amazing trait. They are so clever that even when ask for advice from experts in a particular field (with in their case around 10 years working as back office in different football clubs, talking to former England coaching staff and some of the most experienced M&A professionals in the business). They ignored the lot of them.

No, the Russians had information that this forum is aware of from some very highly respected people at the top of football.....

Not that I'm wondering who you've been talking to, or anything like that...

This thread hasn't lost its wicked chuckle factor, has it?!

http://www.afrikansoccer.com/2011/05/tottenham-boss-redknapp-to-miss-south-africa-tour/

Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp might not accompany the team to South Africa for the Vodacom Challenge.

Spurs will make a welcome return to these shores to face local giants Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs in July, but the club has told this site it is highly unlikely the 64-year-old will be on board the plane to South Africa owing to allegations of tax evasion leveled against Redknapp.

Redknapp has, according to reports in England, been charged with two counts of tax evasion during his time as manager of Portsmouth, relating to two payments totalling £185,000 which were made to Redknapp by former Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric through a Monaco bank account.

The club’s executive director, Donna Cullen, explains: “We will look to bring him if the dates make it possible. However, he has got a private tax case that needs to be heard in court on the dates. Those dates coincide with the dates of the tour to South Africa.

“But those (court) dates can change because these things are never set in stone. If the courts change their scheduling then Harry would come out.”

The Vodacom Challenge will kick off on July 16, with Kaizer Chiefs taking on Spurs in Polokwane at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The News understands a number of allegations have been made to the liquidators against former directors, accusing them of continuing to trade for months while the club could not pay its bills.

It will be Mr Oliver’s job to investigate those allegations – and potentially hand a file to the government’s Official Receivers’ Office for legal proceedings to begin.

The investigation will focus on board members from the time when Sacha Gaydamak owned the club to the day it was placed in administration in February 2010

that's the breach we pointed out at the time! - no doubt the Prem will now hit them with a penalty should they ever return.

Then halve it if they confess.

Jumping on that now is a bit like their first couple of months of last season - pointless.

Find those irregularities, that's where the penalty gold is.....

May be more than that of course. The club made statements confirming their slovency, to the Authorities as well as to the Law Courts. While it will be officers of the club who may have broken the law, the Football Authorities may take a very grim view and not just points deductions. Remember the PL still hold the reigns on further tranches of Parachute payments............

Bizarrely enough, without any prompting from this thread, I dreamt Pompey incurred a 3 point deduction before next season. Probably not complete justice, but it's a start...

I presume that you are the Sue who made the last comment re. 'why Pompey' ?

For me, that is 'the big question' to anyone about to buy them, because otherwise the heavy suspicion is that it will be a money laundering machine and not a football club at all !!

Moi? There's lots of Sues around...:-)

But yes, that's exactly what the question is, and it's such a heavy suspicion that I'm still not sure whether to go for the c*ck-up theory by the football authorities. I normally do, but in this particular situation conspiracy seems to be playing a very strong game..

i believe that the web went so far up the football 'family' throughout world football and associations that they could in no way let all the stuff come to light.

It does seem odd or massive a coincidence that the Football Association’s ex-head of integrity as CEO happens to have parachuted in. That many of the former executives were still in position well into the admins direction and do we know if all the computer data and records were left intact or due to clerical error much lost.

It is heartening to see that there is going to be proper investigation into the clubs affairs and i dearly hope that the information required is still hiding deep in the computers hard drive.

Someone sharper than I could tell me if this is correct...

It seems there are huge legal benefits from blatantly running a club into administration.

Your Business A runs at massive profit, let's say a money-laundering, organised crime connected business - your Business B, FC Skate is run into the ground.

The club is unsustainable and as a result of overspending does well on the pitch, while it's failure as a business supplies the loss to balance the profit of Business A.

Thus saving a load in tax on your two businesses.

The Blues have to wait until their takeover is completed to get the transfer over the line for the man who scored 11 goals in 43 appearances last season.

Which must suggest that the takeover is a 'done deal' then if the norris move is a done deal!

Baj, you can close this thread now ;)

I take it they have agreed terms with the David Norris charged with the Stephen Lawrence murder?

Or is that the Liam Lawrence charged with taking money under false pretences and impersonating a proper footballer?

It's confusing.

But by outbidding wealthier clubs they are trying to sign a player discarded by one of their competitors?

If that's the standard of their signings it's like administration never happened - Norris must think it's christmas.

Not rated by Ipswich, overpaid, over the hill, long contract - plenty more where he came from, keep up the good work Stevie boy!

Are we going to be swooping on Brighton and Huddersfield's released list to seek out someone we can pay £20K a week?

I think not - and I don't think either of those clubs will be looking at the likes of Pulis as their star signing.

Sometime soon the FA should tell them, 'this business plan of yours is pure fantasy'

I'm starting to feel sorry for them now, the madness continues unabated - it was funny for the first year, now it feels cruel to mock.

I've lost count of the number of times they've shot themselves in the foot and reloaded - even starting off with the extra ones they must be all out of toes by now.

Not quite true - Norris refused to sign a new contract because he was holding out for a big-money move in the summer. Now if the Skates do sign him they will have had to outbid the other interested parties for his services. His signing - or not - will give us a big clue as to where they are going next.

Unless I'm mistaken, trading whilst insolvent is breaking the law. The judgement on that is coming your way sometime soon, along with the prospect of certain people being judged on tax evasion and using unlicensed agents, amongst other things.

I think probably the latter, Ginge. Most of the ones I come across during the course of my business, consider the price that they have paid, the administration, the fall from grace, the club nearly faling into oblivion, were all worthwhile for the FA Cup, the trips to Wembley and the stint in the Premiership.

yes it is...and at the first court case, the judge said that they were insolvent yet let them continue to trade, which is a very strange thing to do.

Didn't the club spin some pony about an impending takeover which would solve it's ills?

The basic fact is this. If MY limited company would have been in Portsmouth's situation last January, it would have died in the courtroom - GUARANTEED.

The depth of the cover-up I feel is VERY deep and goes to the heart of football in the UK.

THEY know that they covered it all up, therefore THEY will do anything they can to stop the truth coming out.

Will THEY come forward? Who are THEY?

Recent TV appearances when quizzed by certain business legends were very telling.

Supporting a business which is openly breaking UK company law when trading insolvently SHOULD be investigated. Will it be though?

I suppose it depends on where the ultimate vested interests lie. Have people at the very top been taking backhanders. If so, and this is exposed, where would it leave the game? Would there be a fury and backlash or, as is often the case, supporters will be happy if THEIR club is alright jack and sod the rest?

Where does Sky fit into the overall picture?

I think Poopey is a mere pawn in a huge game going on.

I agree. HMRC tried to an emotional argument which was the worst way to go about it. If they had argued on a purely financial basis, HMRC would have won.

I reckon Chinny will try the 'we need the takeover to happen or the club will fold' trick again... I don't think it will work again though!

It was a protection of the Premier League 'brand' that's for sure.

That said, they failed - the brand is tarnished as despite their desperate attempts to keep the cheats afloat, they still ended up in Admin = brand tarnished anyway.

We could have a field day on here about unanswered questions - did the Premier League ask for evidence of Ali Al Faraj's passport to prove his identity?

If they DIDN'T then they have a lot more questions to answer....

Why does a FA member of staff suddenly jump ship to the most unenticing club on the planet?

8th July 2009.

The day this thread started.

And yet as CS says above.

Almost 2 years later, the same questions remain unanswered and "Chinny will try the 'we need the takeover to happen or the club will fold' trick is still trying to be recycled

Didn't we post links to the Dead Parrot Sketch a year ago?

Seems even more appropriate now..........

A buyer enters a football club.

Mr. Russian: 'Ello, I wish to register a complaint.

(The Chinny does not respond.)

Mr. Russian: 'Ello, Miss?

Chinny: What do you mean "miss"?

Mr. Russian: I'm sorry, I have a cold. I wish to make a complaint!

Chinny: We're closin' for lunch.

Mr. Russian: Never mind that, my lad. I wish to complain about this club what I purchased not half an hour ago from this very boutique.

Chinny: Oh yes, the, uh, the South Cost Blue...What's,uh...What's wrong with it?

Mr. Russian: I'll tell you what's wrong with it, my lad. 'E's dead, that's what's wrong with it!

Chinny: No, no, 'e's uh,...he's resting.

Mr. Russian: Look, matey, I know a dead club when I see one, and I'm looking at one right now.

Chinny: No no he's not dead, he's, he's restin'! Remarkable team, the South Cost Blue, idn'it, ay? Beautiful plumage!

Mr. Russian: The plumage don't enter into it. It's stone dead.

Chinny: Nononono, no, no! 'E's resting!

Mr. Russian: All right then, if he's restin', I'll wake him up! (shouting at the cage) 'Ello, Mister Pompey Club! I've got a lovely fresh skate fish for you if you

show...

(Chinny hits the cage)

Chinny: There, he moved!

Mr. Russian: No, he didn't, that was you hitting the cage!

Chinny: I never!!

Mr. Russian: Yes, you did!

Chinny: I never, never did anything...

Mr. Russian: (yelling and hitting the cage repeatedly) 'ELLO POMPEY!!!!! Testing! Testing! Testing! Testing! This is your nine o'clock alarm call!

(Takes club out of the cage and thumps its head on the counter. Throws it up in the air and watches it plummet to the floor.)

Mr. Russian: Now that's what I call a dead club.

Chinny: No, no.....No, 'e's stunned!

Mr. Russian: STUNNED?!?

Chinny: Yeah! You stunned him, just as he was wakin' up! South Cost Blues stun easily, major.

Mr. Russian: Um...now look...now look, mate, I've definitely 'ad enough of this. That club is definitely deceased, and when I purchased it not 'alf an hour

ago, you assured me that its total lack of movement was due to it bein' tired and ****ged out following a prolonged promotion push.

Chinny: Well, he's...he's, ah...probably pining for the FA Cup.

Mr. Russian: PININ' for the FA CUP?!?!?!? What kind of talk is that?, look, why did he fall flat on his back the moment I got 'im home?

Chinny: The South Cost Blue prefers keepin' on it's back! Remarkable team, id'nit, squire? Lovely plumage!

Mr. Russian: Look, I took the liberty of examining that club when I got it home, and I discovered the only reason that it had been sitting on its perch in the

first place was that it had been NAILED there.

(pause)

Chinny: Well, o'course it was nailed there! If I hadn't nailed that team down, it would have nuzzled up to those bars, bent 'em apart with its beak, and

VOOM! Feeweeweewee!

Mr. Russian: "VOOM"?!? Mate, this team wouldn't "voom" if you put four million volts through it! 'E's bleedin' demised!

Chinny: No no! 'E's pining!

Mr. Russian: 'E's not pinin'! 'E's passed on! This club is no more! He has ceased to be! 'E's expired and gone to meet 'is maker! 'E's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'e

rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed 'im to the perch 'e'd be pushing up the daisies! 'Is metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'E's off the twig! 'E's kicked the

bucket, 'e's shuffled off 'is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!! THIS IS AN EX-CLUB!!

(pause)

Chinny: Well, I'd better replace it, then. (he takes a quick peek behind the counter) Sorry squire, I've had a look 'round the back of the shop, and uh,

we're right out of clubs.

Mr. Russian: I see. I see, I get the picture.

Chinny: I got a slug.

(pause)

Mr. Russian: Pray, does it talk?

Chinny: Nnnnot really.

Mr. Russian: WELL IT'S HARDLY A BLOODY REPLACEMENT, IS IT?!!???!!?

Chinny: N-no, I guess not. (gets ashamed, looks at his feet)

Mr. Russian: Well.

(pause)

Chinny: (quietly) D'you.... d'you want to come back to my place?

Mr. Russian: (looks around) Yeah, all right, sure.

I don't know about these things, but have an inkling that HMRC could object to Injustice Mann handling another case involving the football creditors' rule, or Portsmouth Football Club, even though this is Newco rather than the entity in the first case.

I agree that HMRC's QC was incompetent (he should've focused on the Android's extremely dodgy inflation of unsecured creditor debt, to push HMRC below 25%).

But I still mainly blame Injustices Mann and Whatshername (who let them continue trading insolvently). ;)

Thing is, as wrong as it sounds to include the likes of players who are due 100% no matter what, it is actually aloud so HMRC had to have a go on different grounds as Mann suggested the football creditors rules should be tackled separately. I think that screwed 90% of HMRC's argument and made their case look very week as the points being argued were not winnable by HMRC.

Where things swing back in their favour however is the liquidation of the old company. That gave the chance if a proper investigation and they have managed to get an independent company to do it. If they find anything dodgy (and by dragging in specialists to go over initial findings it sounds like they have) they can then go after previous directors for money that should of been paid but by way of fines. If that happens they might wish the football creditors rule was scrapped a while ago as they could of paid HMRC the same as everyone else and they wouldn't of been chased down by the tax man.

I think the club Pompey will somehow survive even if they have to do an AFC Wimbledon but I am still confident that most of the wrong doing will produce punishments and we will finally see justice served.
