Pompey Takeover Saga

The business partner of Mr. Dubov is one Vladimir Antonov.

Especially like this part:

New scam leads to Portsmouth

Once the scheme of stealing money of the Central Bank failed to go through Urin, Alexander and Vladimir Antonov with Victor Yampolsky offered Mendeleev and the leadership of Russian Railways to carry it on. They found full support there.

According to the bankers’ and state monopolies representatives’ plan, STB, on the edge of bankruptcy, will be merged with “The Bank of Savings and Loans" (Sberkredbank is owned by Vladimir Antonov). The new bank, based on its assets, may qualify for a stabilization loan from the Central Bank, which can amount to 10 billion rubles (about $ 320 million). Of this money 8 billion rubles will go to repay the debt to Russian Railways, about 800 million rubles to be transferred to MOITK (Moscow Regional Investment Trust Company), STB and the Antonovs being the old-time debtors.

The funds from private individual deposits will add up to the remaining 1.2 billion rubles of the stabilization loan – the newly merged bank plans to offer good interest rates on deposits.

The interested parties may thus divide among themselves more than 2 billion rubles and spend it at their discretion. For example, why not purchase the English "Portsmouth"?

The newly merged bank will stay afloat for some time, then it can be driven to bankruptcy, assigning stabilization loan repayment to the Central Bank to Deposit Insurance Agency.

According to Russian intelligence, the documents were recently filed in the Central Bank for the merger of STB and Sberkredbank, and they will be approved soon. Yampolsky was informed about this by Central Bank Deputy Chairman Melikian, who also promised that the newly merged bank will qualify for a stabilization loan for at least 10 billion rubles. Rumafia correspondents reported that in early February Yampolsky met with the head of the Russian Railways, Vladimir Yakunin. During the meeting they discussed the creation of the merged bank, what will happen to the debt and a possible stabilization loan from the Central Bank and the purchase of ... English Portsmouth. According to the same source, top managers of Russian Railways also expressed interest in the purchase of this football club.

It is worth mentioning that Vladimir Antonov has been long haunted by the fame of Roman Abramovich who owns football club “Chelsea”. Antonov also wants to be a legal billionaire and owner of any team. Meanwhile, he cannot even become a legal owner of “Saab”. GM flatly refused to sell Saab to Spykers Cars for as long as Antonovs are the cowners of the latter. Father and son faked the sale of their stake in Spykers Cars (it was a bogus deal). This left Vladimir Antonov as of of the owners of Spykers Cars and the company then proceeded in purchasing Saab. Antonov just recently announced that he is going to purchase Spykers Cars again, which already owns Saab.

Vladmir Antonov was not much more successful in purchasing a European football club. His negotiations to purchase “Glasgow Rangers” or "Bournemouth" ended in failure, after that he suddenly expressed interest in Russian football market. In 2010 he announced his intent to purchase Moscow Region “Saturn”. This was not a random choice. This club was on the edge of bankruptcy and owed 800 million rubles to MOITK. The amount of the debt became the purchase price for the club. The Antonovs, Yampolsky and STB were well familiar how to work with this entity, since they have been feeding on it for a long time.

STB still owes 800 million rubles to MOITK. Antonov chose to play on this fact. He knows that this debt will be paid out of Central Bank budget, so you can just add couple hundred millions and get “Saturn” from MOITK. “Saturn” itself cannot pay a penny. However, Antonov’s plans did not find any support among his partners – Russian Railways already owns football club “Locomotiv”. As a result, “Saturn” has ceased to exist, and the masterminds of the grand scam decided to focus their efforts on the purchase of English “Portsmouth

So if this deal goes through, Pompey will be owned by a couple of debt-ridden Russians, and only more criminal activity surrounding the club. Not even millionaires - just people buying companies on the verge of bankruptcy, milking a few millions of the Russian Central Bank, re-invest that money somewhere else and leaves the other company, as in Pompey, to rot...

The problem here is that they cannot milk anyone over Portsmouth rotting carcase - the Russian central bank were only interested in trying to bale out an ailing Russian bank, not an ailing second teir team in a foreign country and Chinny will have long taken any parachute payments. Plus the guy wants to emulate Abramovich, that sounds more like trying put some of his funds into the club. Of course he may just be trying to use it to launder some of his alleged ill-gotten roubles - who would have thought of using Portsmouth for that?!

You're right. I stand corrected. So the question remains the same: Why would anyone buy Pompey? Well, apart from getting the 10.000 bestest fans in the world that is...

Embarrassingly Mack had heard it was just some fitty who was younger than Rixy thought. onist!

Aksherly, we're inclined to believe you on this. But spotting residents of St James: well, how the heck are we going to spot any of the pysch patients amongst the general population, c'mon now! I presume The Old House at Home must be benefitting from any open door policy: Pompey Royal on prescription would be great!

were these the Ruskies who owned a bank and had their offices in some back water of London above some music shop? I get very confused with the comings and goings of Poopey.

Not quite right.... this Dubov chap is the business partner of the guy, Antonov, who owns a bank over a music store, as far as I've gathered. So clearly, they've moved up a bit...

oh he knows exactly what he's after, a shell of a company that can cope with large amounts of cash going in, sloshing around and coming out again.

There is little at pompey to attract a serious businessman hence the lack of interest and quality of the last few owners.

They need someone who isn't interested in making money - a billionaire fan or a supporters buyout?

But they would need £30M for starters which is a lot of tarmac jobs and lucky heather sales.

Anyone with some spare time today might like to let him know what a bargain he is getting, or simply post the URL of this thread ;)

I suspect they know exactly what they're getting.

I also suspect that if they take over then there will be some changes behind the scenes, a large expansion of the kit room facilities will be followed by the people who wash the shirts being quietly replaced some rather large Russian gentlemen who will be seen entering and leaving with copious quantities of brown envelopes stuffed full of you know what!! Allegedly, of course!

You know I've heard local police and lawyers talking about the prevalence of Russian mafia activity in Hampshire, but of course I would not want make any link here.

The funny thing is, that when you do a simple Google seach on these two characters, Dubov and Antonov, you first get loads of references to their proposed takeover at either Bournemouth or Pompey. After you filter those away, you get loads of stories about their ties to the Russian mafia. When you filter those away it goes very quiet on both these guys....

OK so the thing to watch out for is not a Yacht, but one of those incredibly expensive McLaren motor cars. A mate spotted it when it turned up at Dean Park early last year

Apparently they are so common that Eddie Mitchells' car was also parked next to one in Bompey not some 12 weeks ago.

Don't under-estimate a genuine interest in football

Interesting figure on that rumour mill site, seem to recall there was some discussion in the Bompey Echo as to net wealth

If they're buying the few, then no doubt 91 other clubs can breathe a sigh of relief including Mitchell and others I'm sure

The BBC are not shy in reporting the ongoing excuses without mentioning the other side of the argument :

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13015475.stm

It never ceases to amaze me that they totally ignore the millions written off, the raping of local businesses, the stolen charity money etc.. etc..

They seem to condone the suggestion of " we've been hard done by" and naively print that they were short of subs at the beginning of the season without demanding the reason why !

It makes me sick, it does !

What an amusing co-incidence

Vladimir Antonov

Roman Dubrov

And Interpol purely co-incidentally which causes a smirk not an allegation whatsoever...

LOL I really hope the takeover goes through :D

I wonder if that bloke actually exists . .

OK some points.

Eddie Mitchell turned the Russians down because he did not think they were real and at that time had a link to Bompey's nemesis, Cherrypip.

They are real, they have a lot of money

They have been trying to buy a number of clubs

They are not Billionaires

They are not completely stupid, so must have seen an angle

In theory if they got the few debt free (so to speak) and for a quid they would be OK finance wise in the NPC.

But I should think the first thing that would go would be the ludicrous quality approach of Armpit & Snivelrill

But then hey what do I know, I reckoned Tiger would shock everyone and make the top 5 at The Masters

Zebra finance have issued a statement this morning that if for any reason pompey are unable to fulfil their fixtures, under the consumer credit act, supporters will get a refund.

What a strange statement to make, is the take up that low that they are trying to reassure the fans or is it something more sinister. Bizarre.

But not necessarily a full refund? Perhaps they consider 1p in the pound as a refund. :D

Pompey yet again seem to have got away with it again. We just have to hope the Ruskies dont go through with it.

Yep

Although of course what would be funnier would be to go through with it and for them to have only a shoestring budget and even worse flotsam and jetsam around them than some of their previous owners

But to give a teeny tiny bit of hope I will throw two words into the mix - property speculation

Ah yes, an opportunity to sing one of my favourite songs: "Fratton PArk is a future block of flat, future block of flats, future block of flats"

or hopefully, next season (assuming Pompey don't go down...) "We're all standing on a future block of flat, future block of flats, future block of flats"

A draw against Preston just put another mayor dent in their "push for promotion"....

More like it's put a hole in it just below the waterline :D

They need Leeds to lose 3 and draw 1 of their remaining 6 games, not to mention results for 7 other sides in between going the few's way.

A quick peak at their squad on wiki makes for amusing reading next season. If you take away the loan players, I reckon that leaves them with:

Ashdown - 30 years old

Hreidarrson - 37 years old

Mullins - 32 years old

Webber - 29 Years old

Kitson - 31 years old

Ward - 21 Years old

Ciftci - 19 years old

Kanu - 35 years old

Rocha - 32 years old

Flahavan - 32 years old

:D

10 players, 7 of them in their 30s and half of them are probably out of contract anyway (Can anyone confirm who?) God in heaven, I hope we go up. Brighton have already got their Championship slot bought and paid for. They will probably finish above Pompey and take the p*ss something rotten.

Luckily the government have changed the rules so you can't be forced to retire at 65 so they have got a few more years of Kanu yet!

The Shythawks finishing above us next season is not the issue, There are at least two tickets to the dance next season providing you stable boys don't Phuxitup.

Oh and King Kanooooooooo is at least 50 already

Maybe, but you will have to put up with endless Brighton fans telling you it is. We've had a year of the same with Bompey (although they've been a bit quieter in recent weeks) and Reading, for some reason, in 2006.

Saints are very much looking forward to the ball next season (not counting our chickens yet). It's a shame our date can't afford a limo, a dress or any champagne. :D

Looks like a few south coast Derby's are on the cards next season then. Shame bompy have fallen away a little. But with Pompey looking like they will still be there, Brighton pretty much certain to go up and us with only relying on ourselves there are at least 4 matches that will mean something no matter where we finish.

Will Brighton be able to improve their squad? Will Pompey have a squad? Will our squad get stronger?

Can't wait!!
