saintjay77 Posted 1 April, 2011 Share Posted 1 April, 2011 Im not a 100% certain, but think Venables "errors" were mid term and he resigned shortly afterwards..... To be honest the best thing Venables ever did was buy pompey for a pound..... Stitch them up, make some cash and have it away on his toes...... They seem to attract the very best people. Ah brilliant, I forgot it was involving them down the road too. They have had some interesting times over the years. lol I might have to block Mack though as I am not familiar with reasoned argument from a skate. Saint_John Posted 1 April, 2011 Share Posted 1 April, 2011 What happened about the £1,000,000 that they owed to Spurs, The last thing I saw in the press was this from the 13 Jan http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/jan/13/portsmouth-tottenham-hotspur-asmir-begovic The Asmir Begovic situation is going to arbitration. This is an entirely independent panel who will adjudicate on the issue and hopefully reach a conclusion. No date has yet been set as evidence is still being gathered, with the hearing thought likely to be held in around two months' time. There is nothing on the PL web site (or FA / UEFA ) about this yet, so I assume they are still gathering evidence.

Picard Posted 1 April, 2011 Share Posted 1 April, 2011 Dont worry about arry, the amounts are trivial in the grand scheme of things, even guilty it will just be a fine and worst case suspended sentance. It would of course ruin his chances of being England manager and of owning Bournemouth, but I am sure he would find his away around the latter. In fact it would be quite interesting for him to own his own club. Given every club bar his current one have gone bust, he might just have to change his post match interviews about how crap his squad is. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Bookies-slash-odds-on-Harry-Redknapp-s-departure-from-Tottenham-article718700.html Bookmakers have slashed the odds on Harry Redknapp being the next Premier League manager to leave his post. Redknapp goes on trial in July on charges of tax evasion dating from his time in charge of Portsmouth. Redknapp and former Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric, along with former chief executive Peter Storrie, will face charges at Southwark Crown Court in south *London that Mandaric paid Redknapp £189,000 via a Monaco bank account. hypochondriac Posted 2 April, 2011 Share Posted 2 April, 2011 Lungs, you are going to love this link. I like Jewell a bit more... http://www.greenun24.co.uk/ipswich-town/how_portsmouth_have_money_to_sign_norris_is_anybody_s_guess_jewell_1_848908 IPSWICH Town manager Paul Jewell has been left shaking his head at the ability of Portsmouth to offer a highly lucrative deal to his skipper David Norris. But Jewell says that if the midfielder goes in the summer on a free transfer to Fratton Park, Ipswich Town will survive without Norris and that Norris will survive without Ipswich Town. Norris, who is expected to lead Town in their Championship game at Turf Moor against Burnley today (kick-off 3pm), has indicated to Jewell that he would like to stay put – and talks are still taking place. Norris is available on a free transfer because Town failed to agree a contract extension so Pompey will be able to spread much of the transfer fee they would have paid to the player over the course of his contract. But it will still be substantial money for a club that was on the brink of folding because of their serious financial position last summer and Jewell said: “Portsmouth probably haven’t paid their bills. “But seriously how they had the money to pay for the arrival of Liam Lawrence and Dave Kitson and pay the wages of some of their other players is anybody’s guess. “It must be the parachute payments they receive after relegation from the Premier League, and this makes a huge difference when you are trying to make an impact in the Championship.”

OldNick Posted 3 April, 2011 Share Posted 3 April, 2011 I heard the whining from Cotterill but the score was 1-0 at the time and so it was not as though it was the important first gal. He failed to mention how the ref disallowed a goal that the commentators were surprised about. Solent really does pander to their fans, saying how 4000 of them went, it is only up the road for them. That pales into insicnificence our 3000 + at Charlton the other week for a midweek game.
Dark Munster Posted 3 April, 2011 Share Posted 3 April, 2011 Why is there equivocation about their season? It's been over for months. They have zero chance of the play offs. If they'd won yesterday they would have been one of 4 clubs on 57 points, three behind the team in 6th. Still perilous, but not impossible by any means. But now, with 5 matches left, they have to get 7 more points than Reading in 6th place (who have a game in hand). Not to mention more points than the 6 teams immediately above them. All for a 1/4 shot at saving the club. It's going to be a nail biting finish for the Cheats. Let's wish them luck that they can get enough points in the next few games to get close. Agonisingly, painfully, heartbreakingly close.
rallyboy Posted 3 April, 2011 Share Posted 3 April, 2011 sorry Benjii but their season is just about still alive - and they do have seven to play. They should win the next two, meaning they would be about five points behind with five to play. Unless they can blitz everyone I reckon they will finish within one or two points of the playoffs because there are just too many teams ahead - but it will be close. On a different note, had the joy of listening to W******d doing his bell and drums thang at Petersfield this afternoon for the Chelsea legends game. My favourite bit was when he stopped. Gemmel Posted 3 April, 2011 Share Posted 3 April, 2011 Former Portsmouth owner Sulaiman Al Fahim has vowed to continue supporting the club, despite being attacked by a number of fans following the team’s away match at Reading on Saturday. It is understood that Al Fahim, who took over the club in July 2009 before selling it later the same year, became involved in a dispute with a section of Portsmouth fans during the match. UAE businessman Al Fahim was then chased by a group of fans outside the stadium, with a number making contact with him briefly, before police and stadium security staff intervened. Speaking to Arabian Business, one fan who witnessed the incident said: “Some of them were chanting things during the match which suggested he had taken money out of the club. "He was clearly unhappy at this and came over to a section of fans to explain that he had actually put $10m of his own money into the club. "However they didn’t really want to listen so he decided to leave the match before the end. Unfortunately a group of them followed him out of the ground and tried to throw punches, but luckily the police and security staff him out just in time.” On Sunday, a number of Porstmouth fans contacted Al Fahim to express outrage at the incident, and the former owner met with a supporters group at a London hotel, where they are understood to have apologised for the incident. One fan, James Thorne, emailed Arabian Business saying: “Please can you pass on apologies to him from myself and other like-minded Pompey fans for the behaviour of a small minority of 'fans' at the match he attended in Reading yesterday." The email added: "The vast majority of fans would not like to be associated with these actions and we welcome Mr Al Fahim's continued involvement at the club as a fellow supporter.” Speaking to Arabian Business on Sunday night, Al Fahim confirmed the incident but said it would not diminish his support for Portsmouth: “My heart is in this club, not just because I invested money into it but because I genuinely adore the club and its traditions and fans. Obviously what happened is upsetting and was unpleasant, but the vast majority of the fans have always been very warm towards me, so I’m not going to let one incident change that,” he said. I think someone needs to tell Fahim, the company he still owns 10% was liquidated. The new company doesnt include him. Another victim of pfc. I ain't a great googler, but surely I seem to recall that at some point Sultan Bin Trump told the world that his adventure with the few had cost him 5mil? And also, how does his position with the fans tie in with Wiki which says Portsmouth On 27 May 2009, it was reported that Al-Fahim had signed a deal to take over the English Premier League club Portsmouth.[21] Owner Alexandre Gaydamak agreed a price of around £60 million, with the deal proposed to be completed by 28 July 2009. On 13 July the club's website said that the due diligence part of the deal had been completed, Al-Fahim Asia Associates were conducting their final commercial assessment, and that a formal application for the "Fit and Proper Persons" test to the Premier League had been submitted.[22] On 21 July, it was confirmed that Al-Fahim had passed the test and that an agreement in principle had been reached to sell the club with Al-Fahim joining the board as chairman.[23] On 29 July, BBC Sport reported that the sales and purchase agreement needed to be finalised to close the transaction.[24] However, on 19 August, the club's website revealed that a new consortium led by the current club CEO Peter Storrie was negotiating over the purchase of the team, and that Al-Fahim may be a partner in the new consortium. On 26 August 2009 The News, confirmed that Sulaiman Al-Fahim was the new owner of Portsmouth F.C. having full control of the club.[25] On 2 October 2009, it was reported by BBC Sport that Al-Fahim was in hospital in Dubai, with kidney stones.[26] On 5 October 2009, just over 40 days after purchasing the club, Al-Fahim sold 90 percent of his stake in Portsmouth to Ali al-Faraj and his business Falcondrone Ltd. As part of the deal Al-Fahim became non-executive chairman at the club until the end of the 2010–11 season.[27] In an interview on 16 October 2009, Al-Fahim stated that it had been a good investment as he had sold 90 percent of the shares for £70 million and retained all of the club's real estate assets.[28] In a previous interview with Arabian Business, Al Fahim contradicted this statement by claiming he sold Portsmouth for zero pounds.[29] http://www.aawsat.com/english/news.asp?section=3&id=18494 A) It was purely a matter of investment. I saw that there was a good opportunity in selling for an excellent profit. Praise be to God as Ali al Faraj’s presence helped me a lot, as he was interested in buying the club when I was negotiating with the former owner. That helped me buy the club and then put it up for sale again. Same article Q) We know that you bought Portsmouth FC for 60 million pounds sterling. What other details of the deal can you tell us about? A) I sold 90 percent of the club’s shares for a total of 70 million pounds sterling and I have retained 10 percent of the shares. I will remain head of the club’s board of directors for two seasons. Moreover, I kept 100 percent of the club’s real estate assets and this is something nobody has paid attention to or spoken about. I am announcing this for the first time that [the real estate assets] are owned by the Al Fahim Group. Without doubt the real estate aspect is important in sports investment. Praise be to God, I was able to transfer all the club’s debts to the new owner and I gained excellent revenue. Now call me old fashioned I've had a couple of Zubrowka's and watched he's not The Messiah He's a very Naughty Boy but I struggle to find any consistency here Anyone help me out? dubai_phil Posted 4 April, 2011 Share Posted 4 April, 2011 We should get him always liked the player good for championship although might spend a bit of time in our treatment room Well, with Connelly being out of contract at the end of this season, there may well be a vacancy in that area next year. But I don't think we're dumb enough to pay 40 grand a week anymore

andysstuff Posted 5 April, 2011 Share Posted 5 April, 2011 Chatting to a mate last night. He's got a friend whose cousin is on Poopeys books as a youngster, 18 I think. Seems that the reason none of the kids are put on the bench is that they've got to pay them £1000 for the priviledge, whether they get on the pitch or not. Cashflow may be tighter than we thought down there.

I did read that report last week about clubs charging hundreds of £s for kids who wanted to be match day mascots - typical skates taking it to a new low! Minsk Posted 5 April, 2011 Share Posted 5 April, 2011 Good win for Reading tonight. Poopey now 9 points behind them (effectively 10 given Reading's far superior goal difference) with 7 matches to go... Plus the little matter of Forest, Millwall, Burnley, et al, in between them both.... I am going to enjoy this thread all throughout the summer!
