anothersaintinsouthsea Posted 7 February, 2011 Share Posted 7 February, 2011 (edited) Unfortunately for the few - break-even in an accounting sense does not necessarily indicate a healthy cash-flow. It is cash that they need...and lots of it. They are going to have to purchase a new squad in the summer. Indeed. When you think about breaking even should be fairly simple. They get a massive payment from the Premier League, an expensive but small squad and little infrastructure (Academy etc). From a cash point of view it will be much different - how much of the parachute payment that helps them break-even stays in the club? any of it? just read the article about the supposedly interest Russian buyer. What f'ing joke. If he got turned down by Bompey I can't see him being that impressive. Loved the comment from one disgruntled skate who simply used the articles as a chance to bemoan the state of the taps in the loos at Fratton Park! Dark Munster Posted 7 February, 2011 Share Posted 7 February, 2011 Why doesn't this surprise me at all. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladimir_Antonov A simple Wiki-seach shows Antonov to have dodgy contacts. "Antonov's interests (29.9% of the shares) in Spyker Cars were said to have delayed the purchase of Saab Automobile in late 2009. An investigation by the Swedish monetary agency Riksgälden and the Swedish security police Säpo had allegedly found connections between the Antonov family and organized crime, as well as involvement in money laundering. Säpo reported their findings to the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation, and shortly afterwards GM stopped further talks about the deal until the Antonov family had sold their shares in Spyker Cars" Pompey, the whore of dodgy money men! It certainly explains why he listed Cheats as his favourite team.

dubai_phil Posted 7 February, 2011 Share Posted 7 February, 2011 I've got a busy week coming up as you all by now know. According to the Mail I've gotta go find some dishdash to buy our club, Tiger has an appointment booked for his "how to meet nice girls" counselling session with me and then I have to now go and find a therapist. Because this little old bit today has just been right up there in the you couldn't make it up category. Please no, surely not again, I just can't take it any more, haven't stopped laughing all day. Gutted. Shame. I used to live up that way and watch the Magpies at York Road when I was young. Haven't read the article but "fraction" is probably the wrong word: decimal point followed by lots of zeroes is probably more like it.

I haven't seen the accounts but I would guess that transfer fee revenues and all other receipts have covered wages and expenses. Which leaves nothing for the creditors through the CVA. Trouble is the wage bill is ongoing but most of the assets have now been sold so the cashflow forecasts will be looking very scary indeed.

Gemmel Posted 8 February, 2011 Share Posted 8 February, 2011 Yesterday http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/news/local/east-hampshire/could_a_russian_banker_be_eyeing_up_football_club_1_2387870 Pompey say they have had no approach from Mr Dubov or his partners. Chief executive David Lampitt said: ‘I have absolutely no knowledge whatsoever about Mr Dubov. I have not been contacted by them. Today http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/pompey-past/bygone-blues/we_are_in_talks_to_buy_the_club_say_russians_1_2390431 POMPEY’S chief executive David Lampitt has confirmed that talks have taken place between Russian businessmen who want to buy the club and its current owners. Rumours surfaced over the weekend that Roman Dubov and his banker business partner Vladimir Antonov were looking to buy the Blues. Last night Mr Lampitt confirmed that Pompey’s owners have spoken to the men – but could not reveal exactly what discussions had taken place. I fear that Mr Lampitt is getting a little confused and has been dragged in to "I must lie" syndrome that seems to effect them all down there. Anyway good luck to the blue few with this lot, all above board i'm sure.

rallyboy Posted 8 February, 2011 Share Posted 8 February, 2011 so am I right in thinking we now have a 'banker' who has been linked to organised crime and whose fellow director and brother was shot by a hitman? And between them they couldn't afford Bournemouth? And the motoring industry was concerned over their own version of the FaPPT? Allied with one of Ridsdale's advisors, and a bloke who makes our own estate agent saviour look bigtime?!...... I just knew someone would get shot before this deal completed! With an arms dealer, money launderers and two branches of the Russian mafia involved, it should get really tasty now. Once again it's going to be like three old tramps fighting over one wet shoe - but this time they're tooled up - book front row seats now to avoid disappointment! Our entertainment aside - the FL should knock this one on the head right now, Lampitt has seen the same background info that we have, his former job leaves him in no doubt as to these people's likely intentions. A return to Cash + twintub. It's very obvious.
