Pompey Takeover Saga

Fitzhugh Fella

Recommended Posts

having witnessed the appalling behaviour for Ted's silence when in just 60 secs a new generation of hardline Pompey-haters was born, and rightfully so, it must be said that I've been pleasantly surprised by the sensible line taken by the vast majority of Pompey fans at this time.

The idiots that came to St Marys that night tarnished their club name forever - maybe the rest now realise that it caused huge longterm damage to the club and 'the bestest fans' and they don't want a repeat.

Before that game they were considered passionate and noisy - but that reputation died that night.

Yes there have been idiot postings about Markus, but only a small number of the very few have made themselves look stupid.

I thought this could never happen but.... Ho is nearly, partially-right with some of his comments on this one - though I would dispute his suggestion that it would be the same if it were our fans.

There would be jokes, nothing is sacred in comedy, but I'm not aware of Saints fans ever abusing a minute's silence in front of a family who have suffered a loss - and that is Pompey's burden, and motivation for some on here to go overboard with abuse - the worst owngoal in football history - never to be forgotten, and unlike the docks strike etc, it really happened.

So fair play to the respectful majority, there have been some thoughtful messages from the other end of the M27 - and eternal hateful condemnation to the rest, especially those who come on here and think they can get away with it - we know who they are.

Let's move on from this aspect of our owner's passing.

I was at St Mary's that day and cringed as the few idiots continued to chant when the whistle blew for the silence. Truly embarrassing.

Only it wasn't 'a few idiots' was it? It was the entire away end (expanded because it was a cup tie). And they didn't 'continue to chant when the whistle blew for silence'; they weren't simply chanting, they were jeering, booing and whistling and giving every impression of thoroughly enjoying themselves.

Portsmouth's Night of Shame.

What an absolute load of ******. It was terrible that a small minority of Pompey fans didn't respect the minutes silence but it WAS a small minority. I was in the away end that night and I wasn't booing/ chanting. There was certainly some more noise made as Pompey fan(myself included) told those making the noise to be quiet but to say the whole away end was doing it is laughable. I know quite a few Pompey fans who didn't know whether to tell the idiots to shut up or not for fear of contributing to the noise during the minutes silence.

If you're saying it was the whole away end I can't help but think you weren't there and are another Daily Mail - like reader, complaining about things when you haven't even experienced them first hand.

I might have guessed there would be an attempt to re-write history over your Night of Shame.

I most certainly was at St Mary's on 2 December 2003 and have an extraordinarily clear memory of the booing, whistling, jeering and otherwise uttery appalling behaviour coming from what certainly appeared to be the entire away end. You might recall the referee (Graham Poll, no less) brought the Minutes Silence to an abrupt end (as little as 20 seconds in, I believe).

Tell me ... why do you think Mr Poll did this? Because of just 'a few idiots' continuing to chant or because of several thousand showing a lack of respect?

I would like you to take a moment to consider this, as the undeniable fact of the shortened Minutes Silence clearly demonstrates my recall of what happened is the reality and your (plural) attemps to put the blame on 'a few idiots' and a 'small minority' is simply factually inaccurate.

Interesting. So, an outstanding mortgage of £23m was 'settled' for £7m. All the outstanding debts were not settled in full at all then, were they? You are no different to us. Cheats!

Anyway, seeing as Nickh was right all along, why is this thread still running? I mean, it would appear that it's unbridled glee factor for you chaps is now a bit er, limited? I don't mind, it's turned full circle now and is becoming an entertaining read...

You're not cheats because you haven't settled your debts in full, idiot, you're cheats because you:

a) continued to increase your debts when already manifestly insolvent;

b) lied to the authorities;

c) used an unregistered agent;

d) spent a hand-out (ludicrously given to you in contravention of the rules and yet still some of you morons think you were hard done by by the Premier League) on more players in January when manifestly insolvent;

e) spent years racking up costs that you never, ever, in a million years had any prospect of ever being able to service;

f) managed to become insolvent when in the Premier League - when you have an ex gratia guaranteed income of tens of millions for doing absolutely nothing!;

g) had an owner that doesn't exist;

h) are alleged to have engaged in tax evasion over player transfers.

And if you think we're all now sheepishly going away with our tail between our legs you still haven't grapsed the reality of what's ahead of you. It will be funny.

Pretty good thanks. From todays Pompey News:

"The new owner will also have to fulfil the requirements of the CVA. Among the obligations are generating funds from the sale of players. The target was originally set at £15m but that has since been taken down to £12m. More than £8m of this has already been achieved."

Well take it as red that the "news" figures are correct. Interesting that the target has been reduced, i'm not sure how that works, but hey ho, only four million to go.

You didnt mention anything about storries court case and your potential points deduction.

LOL you seem to have a lot of faith in Andronikou that the CVA he produced was accurate.

The fun will re-commence when Chainrai takes over in a few weeks (a few weeks because the transfer window will be over by then), keeps the club on a virtual life support machine and eventually put what's left of the parachute payments and TV money in his back pocket. You have only one owner on the horizon and he is an asset stripper. Anyone else appears to have only been around when AA has said so around the times of court cases, funnily enough.

As for points deductions, Mandaric, Redknapp and Storrie haven't been cleared of cheating the taxman yet.

As for The News they churn out whatever AA or Storrie have wants them to churn out, the £8m appears to be dependant on selling KPB for anywhere around £5m

Sorry to agree with our fishy friend BUT yes there were a fair few dishonouring the minutes silence BUT it was no way the whole P*mpey end ( & i imagine a fair bit of the noise were proper P*mpey fans trying to shut the idiots up)

Only another £4m to raise through player sales then. Trouble is yous manager has been moaning for weeks about how you've only got juniors left in the squad. Looks like one massive hole in the cva at the first hurdle.

my recollection is of a significant minority making noise, not all - but still the worst observed minute in sporting history.

I'm not aware of a club ever having to stage a second attempt.

As for Pompey being out of the woods, Chanrai needs to put a few million quid into the black hole to make that happen.

The cva may have fooled the judge but like all spin and pr, it needs to be backed up with payments and that's not the Pompey strongpoint - according to the official papers AA says it needs £15M now and a few million to get to Christmas.

The only way it could be met by any new revised figures would be if it was illegally put together with exagerated debt to shaft the taxpayer, supported by lies in the high court.

And I'm sure that can't be the case as it would lead to further charges - and there are enough of those in the pipeline as it is.

Though we all suspect that AA has a freemasonry arrangement that has stood him in good stead, I can't see how else he has got this far without being imprisoned.

So, finally it's time to pay up, let's see the colour of their money.....

Did not come with him and in a different part of the ground although thay may have come together at one point in the day. Terry is Pompey through and through. Not even his loss of money has curbed his enthusiasm for them. Terry knows I am a Saints season ticket holder. We tend to take the P out of each other but always light hearted. I know many other good Pompey season ticket holders. We enjoy the banter.

Weston, Terry the builder would have lost very little if anything. He would have supplied materials and some workforce and added his profit margin, the debt would then have been put against his tax. Add to the free publicity and he is more than quids in.

Couldn't agree more - I was there and ought to know.

However, 1 making the noise is 1 too many, and given it was in excess of 100 makes it pretty awful. When you add in at Alan Knights testimonial (when Saints fans were paying money to one of their own!) the coins being thrown at us and the mob waiting for over an hour to try and cause a riot tends not to paint the fan base in a very good light at all!

Of course the majority are good fans, but they do seem to have a disproportional amount who wear Burberry.....

it wasn't the whole away end but 1 is too many. I suspect it was 25% of them and the rest abhorred their actions.There were many letters in the Echo from their fans apologising.

I know that Ho is right for a change as if the boot was on the other foot there would be many of ours who would do the same. of course they will forever say that the pompey fans started it.

Saints had 24,061 for their first game after relegation from the Premier League and the game was live on Sky which puts people off coming.

So what? You picked up 10k+ as soon as you opened the doors on the new ground. It's a pointless argument that won't ever be resolved until we have similar grounds and we're in the same division. Until then, it's all hot air either way...

So, according to the news, the amount of money needed to meet the first CVA payment ( 10% of 15M) has dropped by 20% so that only £12M now needs to be raised. Does this mean that the amount of unsecured credit identified has also dropped by 20% , only two weeks after the court case. on the basis s=tat the reduction is not on the HRMC portion that AA allowed for the vote, that would make the pro CVA vote only 66% so HRMC would be able to block the CVA on these new figures.

Bit of a coincidence, or bunch of shameless, amoral cheating fish fiddlers ?

Of course they all also add up to a certain percentage and as they need there money more than most it would surly pay to keep them sweet or risk them adding to the vote against numbers when they laugh at being offered 20p on the pound.

Your club has somehow managed to get past what should have been an impossible hurdle so it wouldn't surprise me if they carry on flicking the V's at every other place normal clubs would slip up. But as others have already said, your not out of the woods yet. Chainrai still hasn't taken over, even though he was billed as being ready to take over as soon as the appeal was taken care of, the CVA still has to be upheld and the FL will want to make sure that anything you do is 100% correct before it gives you the go ahead.

There will be a few years of struggling using free's and loans and the inevitable asset stripping from Chainrai so it may be a while before you are looking for good times again.

Interesting. So, an outstanding mortgage of £23m was 'settled' for £7m. All the outstanding debts were not settled in full at all then, were they? You are no different to us. Cheats!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The mortgage had been paid off at the rate of over £2m pa so NU had already received a fair amount against their borrowing. Like PCFC there was only one buyer between liquidation and survival. The administrator had already consulted all the debtors and was quoting a figure of £15m, more than covering the purchase of all the assets. Mark Fry quoted that figure to me when I enquired.

SLH was being liquidated and the assets were for sale. SFC was solvent and had debts of about £5m including a £4m overdraft. The only other debt was a £23m mortgage on the stadium whilst the other assets pretty much balanced out and 2 players were sold for about £2.5m. NU had a choice repossess the stadium/site complete with restrictive covenants, sell it to the council who wouldn't buy it unless there was no other alternative or sell it to a third party at an agreed price which they set at about £7m.

The overdraft was settled with Barclays, the other debts were paid in full as they were SFC debts and the taxman was up to date. Now explain to me quite how that scenario equated to a club with a ground mortgaged for £17m to Chanrai, no assets except players and £138m of debt including unpaid taxes. A CVA of 20% over 5 years.

In 9 months the company is going to be liquidated and investigated. In October, Redknapp, Mandaric and Storrie are going to court charged by the Police/CPS not HMRC. If any skullduggery comes to light the FA/League will be all over it. Luton were docked 30 points for misdemeanours prior to the existing ownership. There is also the small matter of the HMRC action against the EPL regarding the use of parachute payments to pay the football debts. HMRC have said they have identified £22.3m available and frozen, to put towards the CVA in the event of them winning. If it was my club I wouldn't be at all sure all is going to be well.

We just turn up and support our team. I feel happy where our club finds itself. It doesn't matter how you consider it, it is a fact the club is debt free, the income is good and the club has no borrowings. The money the owner put into the club is by way of equity not loans. I think this thread has at least another year to run.

As i understand it they cannot appeal the appeal, however a good read is what Android claimed he could do for Swindon's cva.

http://www.twohundredpercent.net/?p=5438

Andriod suddenly gave himself magical powers to

He was to be even more presumptuous in 2007, declaring that he had the power to “extend and vary” the CVA deadline – suggesting it be put back a year. Or, as he modestly out it: “I have the discretion to do what I think is right for everyone. That is where it starts and ends really.”

and

Still so far, so reasonable. Andronikou’s response…wasn’t. “No matter what some people say, as long as I think it is in the interests of everyone to extend the deadline then I can,” he repeated, still not revealing the source of these magical powers.

He doesn't he has to go back to the Creditors and call another meeting.

Andronikou urged creditors to “defer” CVA payments for up to another year – so much for his powers to extend and vary deadlines. But given the continuing lack of detail, Andronikou had to announce that creditors voted “strongly in favour” of calling a meeting to discuss “varying the CVA.”

Meanwhile in the CHEATS case he has SOLD various players Belhadi (2,154,404 votes), Diop (1,336,017) etc and other Football Creditors will be paid in Yr 1 so what is left of the Creditors after Year1 may not vote in his favour if he trys to amend the cva.

Remember the cva SAYS THEY WILL GET £13M in this Transfer Window. £4M in the Jan Transfer Window and another £8M in next summer's Transfer Window.

Er we paid our taxes and didn't cheat charities and local schools out of thousands of pounds. Also we haven't had a bunch of money launderers and corrupt arms dealers running our club.

And if you honestly think you've "got away with it" whilst your still running up unsustainable debts and the only buyer on the horizon is a vulture then I have a lot of sympathy for you

You are very generous. None from me. :)

I think we know the answer.

Cheating, lying bastards.

You're not cheats because you haven't settled your debts in full, idiot, you're cheats because you:

a) continued to increase your debts when already manifestly insolvent;

b) lied to the authorities;

c) used an unregistered agent;

d) spent a hand-out (ludicrously given to you in contravention of the rules and yet still some of you morons think you were hard done by by the Premier League) on more players in January when manifestly insolvent;

e) spent years racking up costs that you never, ever, in a million years had any prospect of ever being able to service;

f) managed to become insolvent when in the Premier League - when you have an ex gratia guaranteed income of tens of millions for doing absolutely nothing!;

g) had an owner that doesn't exist;

h) are alleged to have engaged in tax evasion over player transfers.

And if you think we're all now sheepishly going away with our tail between our legs you still haven't grapsed the reality of what's ahead of you. It will be funny.

Benjii...

You forgot the release of eligible players just to circumvent the latest Transfer Embargo....'Oooh look, you're not as good as Sonko - off you go'...
