Pompey Takeover Saga

"We did not have the £5m but we agreed with three banks to finance the acquisition, and they approved it based on the club financial guarantees we provided, such as annual revenue from TV coverage, and the income of the club real estate and other assets"

They are paying the players wages using next season's parachute payments!

If they go down they will pass through the Championship like a 3 day old prawn vindaloo.

What could be funnier than a potless fantasist buying Pompey?

Two of them doing it!!

He must be quite important if he had to go to three banks to borrow £5M, at what must be hefty repayment rates.

The debt is climbing, Storrie is going to court, the laughs keep coming.

It can't get any funnier....

(I said that yesterday, but it has!)

Faraj admits he knows nothing about football, is in it for the cash and 'aint a billionaire... there's a suprise!!!

"Our plan is to stay at the club for a period of not less than six months"

Errr... didn't Peter Storrie say only a few weeks ago that all of the cash from the TV revenue was going straight into the hands of Standard Bank to repay the loans to them? If so, how have they managed to secure a loan based on something that's already securitised?!

I suspect he should have backed his initial judgement, to be fair...

(As I understand it) The money received in August went straight to Standard Chartered.

This loan would be secured against the money due to be received in January/August 2010...

You and me both.

OK I admit to the inside track on Sultan Bin Trump.

I had to rely on Google and interpretation on Ali Al Faraj

And it may be the case that The Graundiad got it wrong

But BOY is it funny

To every single one of them who welcomed Rupert back, to those who posted on here when they were "Excitely showing an Arab around"

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahaha

Who cares if they sort it out, sometimes the Journey is so much more than the Final Destination (IV)

no saint clark just that there are more imoportant things in life than football to worry about and what can I as a fan actually do about it - whats the point in stressing over something I have no control over ?

Incidentaly - apparently the club are starting legal proceedings against the newspapers running this story as those quotes were allegedly never given, be interesting to see if this really is the truth

if the guardian has pulled the article they must feel it is dodgy.

What I dont understand with the Skates like Merovingian who are intelligent, why do they give Storrie such an easy ride.He is being paid 1.2m and has brought this circus to town TWICE.

Now we have had incompitence at our club but nothing like that.

IMO the best thing that could happen for Pompey is that he gets the push and then a chairman with a bit more about them could come in.

Forget not he lauded both and gave the fans the hope.

PFC Statement

Portsmouth FC owner Ali Al Faraj would like to assure fans that quotes attributed to him in a Saudi Arabian newspaper and subsequently published in some of today's tabloid press, are completely false and untrue.

Mr Al Faraj has not given any interviews to any form of the media and legal proceedings will now begin against the publications that published the alleged quotes and interview.

The club believes this is the work of a third party who will also face legal action.

The same Saudi Arabian newspaper last week published a story on Portsmouth FC quoting Sulaiman al Fahim and the content was subsequently retracted.

He's denying it.

Have to say - I tend to agree with this. NEEDED - New Broom to Sweep Clean. Time to clear out a lot of the deadwood and start again. Let's be honest, the whole situation is farcicle and whilst we may derive great pleasure in watching the Blue Few lurch from one disaster to another - it hardly does the reputation of football in this country any favours whatsoever.

We have LLS whilst they have fake Shieks - footballing whores, out to make a quick buck on the back of fan loyalty. It is time for the FA to intervene, toughen up the FAPP checks and ensure that those people vying for ownership of Clubs over here, have the experience, business model and finances to conduct a professional operation.

Too many Mickey Mouse operatives muddying to waters of what essentially is big business - time for change methinks.

Micky you mention the reputation of football in this country - football in this country is just like its politics - dirty, greedy, corrupt and morally bankrupt. Us not laughing at Poopey is not going to change anything so we might as well keep laughing while Rome burns.

Duncan, I'm not asking anybody to 'shut the comedy store', far be it from me to ask you all to quieten down - let's all have a good old laugh at them, they did while we were having tough times.

But as you rightly point out football is now no better than politics, and that, as far as I am concerned, is not right.

We want to portray a family image, we abhore violence and want it ousted from the game, we will not tolorate racism - but we are happy for dirty, greedy and corrupt people to be associated with football. Surely something is morally wrong.

Yes it is good to see the Blue Few suffer, but what if it was us, what if Mr Liebherr was not the fine upstanding pillar in the community, what if he did not extol good ethical values and demonstrate excellent business acumen - would we still be happy.

The answer is actualy probably yes - but only if the results were the same. The problem being though - as I alluded to before, without a professional business plan, results are unlikely to follow. Hence Pompeys current predicament. It is time for the FA to get involved in takeovers to ensure that those buying into our product are in it for the right reasons and not merely looking to make a fast buck on the back of a club going to the wall.

Can't argue with anything you say Micky but I don't know what it is going to take for someone to say "enough"! Everything is spiralling out of control. Feguson does what he pleases, Sky dictate the media frenzy, the Prem players are above the law (Gerrard) and Redknapp is still operating in the market place. Its like Lord of the Flies. It gets to the stage where you almost want to encourage "armageddon" because you know it will hasten judgement day. A bit like wanting your team to lose so the manager gets the bullet.

As for Poopey, I admit I am rather immature in my glee at their predicament but such is the animosity I can't help myself. Mind you I also take great malicious pleasure at the misfortune of other "big" clubs or "big" names which is part and parcel of football these days. The Germans invented a word for it - "schadenfreude" and now I have learnt to spell it I might use it again!!!! :)

Mmm,job losses at Fratton park, the begining of the re-structure?

Glad to see they're intending to bring in new processes and people under their New Revolutionary Set Up.

Hell, we thought having a Dutch run set up was bad, they're building theirs on that bastion of global Soccer dominance, New Zealand's FORMER technical development director.

Think someone should point out to the owners the slight difference between being #1 in the world in Football & in Rugby Football

Oh dear, oh dear...poor old Skates! Looks like the interview was real!

Just visiting my brother in Dubai who works for a large bank and deals with the Saudis a lot....no-one has ever heard of Ali al-Faraj in business circles and nothing exists officially about him in normal business circles/checks.

Out of the frying pan into the fire...........
