Pompey Takeover Saga

they seem to have broken his spirit rather quickly despite his Martin Luther King/Winston Churchill moment.

'I'm off' could be the first sensible thing he's said for six months, first task will be to try and explain to the West Ham fans why he doesn't rate them as highly as the few, and why his recent league record is by far inferior to Zola's and if repeated would lead to relegation in February.

Is his statue going next to Harry's or Storrie's?

Avram will be happy, the fans say they will 'love him long time' and he likes that sort of thing.

And of course he loves young ladies who love him for a short time

Grant's record is what since he got to Pompey.

It is all on the back of a fortunate cup run.He arrived when they were bottom and they stayed there Lolo

This is what I don't get.

They had an easy run in the cup... and you cannot judge anyones performance based on that FA Cup run, all managers should be judged on their league performance... and Avram Grant was the worst manager in the league.

Why exactly do the skates think he is so good?

I think its based on his continual whining about everybody's against them, they've taken on the world and still managed to get to the Cup Final and the fans have seen it as an excuse to latch onto rather than try and understand the truth.

They love him because he came on the pitch and had a moan at a ref against Sunderland. He showed he had passion, which until that point the skates didn't think he had. Another key factor is that he's spent three/four months saying how great the fans are to anyone that will listen and not already bored to tears by him. Oh and he also managed the side that beat us, that usually goes down well with supporters. Personally I think the hand he had was **** and they improved under him, but they were still a terrible side so lost every week.

Cov, Saints (a), Sunderland, Brum, Spurs. Is that especially easy?

Will be interesting to see what some of the high earners on contracts still valid for a year or more do. Can the administrator actually do anything if they say "I have a contract, please carry on paying me silly money"? There is the talk of the 10K salary cap but can they actually force it on those with a valid current contract?

I guess many will realise that this last year they have only managed to get paid till the end of the season because they were 'to big to fail' in terms of the effect of them being liquidated mid season would have on the PL. Now that's no longer the case so I guess they will be balancing what they might be able to get elsewhere that is definite against what they might get trying to sticking out their contracts.

not easy but they had massive amounts of luck in that run. A last minute own goal at Coventry when the pillock jumped with his own player and headed past his keeper. Add the goal that wasnt given against brum. His league record was poor and it would beinteresting to see if their points inproved after his arrival...although that couldnt be hard

in short no. The player can dig his heals in and see out the contract being paid in full. Its called doing a Bogarde.

Well, I think legally the administrator can tear the contract up. The difficulty is that if it is a "football-related" contract there will be serious sporting sanctions.

They've just issued a formal application to the FA for a UEFA Club Licence.

how many times do they need to be told NO?

and surely that would work backwards for them, as the season would start earlier and they'd have even less time to get a squad together and sort out a CVA.

oh well.

Just listened to Spoony on 606 from the weekend on the podcast. So much fawning over the few - he has gone right down in my estimation.

Why on earth was he ever given a football programme in the first place?

It now makes no difference if they get a UEFA licence - the FA have already allocated the final Europa allocation spot to 7th in the PL.

Nice to read today that Pompey's mascot on Saturday wasn't a young fan to which the experience would have meant everything, or even a kid linked to one of the charities they shafted.

No, they were permitted one mascot - and it was Chainrai's son.

Thanks and good luck, Avram. He's been a gentleman and an inspiration over the last few months. I thought he might be a good outside bet for the Liverpool job this summer, but perhaps not now.

As for the next Pompey manager, it will probably be Paul Groves. There is no money.

This is not the only reply, that suggest he could be the next Liverpool manager:smt044

So, in summary, on that statistical basis, across an entire season of 38 games Grant's Skates would have secured 32 points (Rounding up from 31.92 (0.84*38))

In otherwords, they still would have gone down.

Hmmm, 38 games at 0.84 = 31.92 points. Still 3 short of safety. I'm sure Hammers fans are drooling at the prospect.

Damn, too slow!

In that case I hope that they get (yet more) 'special dispensation', because they are a 'special case' and really shouldn't be expected to play by the rules that everybody else has to observe.

Let them in (I'm sure the Everton fans wont mind), they are a deserving case - nobody, absolutely nobody deserves to be publicly humiliated on the field than they do.

PFC for Europe, I say.

How the **** can they be offering new contracts, thus increasing the football creditors when they don't even know if they will get the CVA approved?

The contracts won't start until 1st July 2009 and a CVA will either be approved or rejected by then. They may be provisional in the event of the CVA failing.

I still do not understand how they can be offering contracts, to players such as Englands David James, they should be forced to work with lowest salaries as possible with every available penny going to the creditors, i wonder how James feels about the club managing to find the funds to pay his wage, but unable to find the funds to pay small cancer charity which it owes money to.

Disgusting.

Just hope Avram goes ASAP as that will help with the exodus of players.

Can the football league impose another transfer embargo on them? is this already in place?

if for the first time they're realistic about trying to address the finances they need to lose everyone and start again.

Even the poorest performing players on that list must be on over-inflated wages as it was the Storrie way.

Either they clear out and concentrate on getting the finances back on track (using the sexy total football path) or they continue the madness until the taxman shuts the ground forever.

The shrewd plan would be to finish one place above relegation with a lean and restructured club that's heading towards self-financing.

Their crushing new £10K wagecap must be similar to Burnley's standard trading idea when they were solvent and in the Prem, AA hasn't suggested a revolutionary new moneysaver, it's a bit steep for a crippled championship club on low gates.

If they retain anyone on stupid money they need a rich new owner, and they don't have one, so it's a simple decision.

Based on recent history - the chances of them doing the sensible and honest thing?

Zero.

True,

All that is required is that they survive 4 years to get the maximum payout from the PL. Nevermind a salary budget of £10m, it should be £10.

That's fine but Andronikou's conduct would seriously be in question then. His duty is to preserve the business and secure a good result for the creditors. HMRC would be all over him if he tried to play hardball too much.

Don't underestimate the sleaze that that cesspit of a club is capable of. For example, after administration hiring David Lampitt as their CEO, the former Football Association's head of football integrity. WTF was that all about? And AA meekly accepting HMRC's debt going up from about 18 million to 35 million? That means their share effectively goes up from 20% to 40% (of the original tax debt). And then we hear HMRC may well accept a CVA, as long as PFC is liquidated 9 months from now. 9 months, WTF?? The stench coming from AA and the rest of the corrupt club is worse than that of a rotten maggot-filled corpse of a skate left in the sun.

Who knows what's going on behind closed doors?

True, but remember. We were run by a professional administrator who actually was working in the general creditor's best interests. His business model involved cutting cost.

They have a clown who is working for their puppet owner's best interest, his business model involves spending like it's Xmas eve in the hope of fudging through an immoral CVA.

Spot on.

Disgusting indeed. Maybe AA is desperately trying to sign up a squad, damned the cost, before the FL hits them with an embargo?
