The Majestic Channon Posted 1 September, 2009 Posted 1 September, 2009 Nugent has gone to burnley on loan.
NickG Posted 1 September, 2009 Posted 1 September, 2009 talksport said that if ever a club was adjusting its team to a lower division a season in advance then this is it!
Chorlton Posted 1 September, 2009 Posted 1 September, 2009 Smith and Utaka aren't even ''out and out'' strikers!!...so just Piquionne up front, what the hell. They're ****ed - something to keep us amused at the moment i guess. Didn't they get Dindane as well? He is not too bad. I can still see pompey staying up. Still don't feel comfortable taking the **** out of a Premier League team whilst we are on minus 7 in some sort of no mans land between Division 3 & 4.
Thedelldays Posted 1 September, 2009 Posted 1 September, 2009 Still don't feel comfortable taking the **** out of a Premier League team whilst we are on minus 7 in some sort of no mans land between Division 3 & 4. I said this and got told off....
View From The Top Posted 1 September, 2009 Posted 1 September, 2009 It's always good to take the **** out of the skates, regardless. They are seriously going to crash & burn whilst we start are slow rise from the black days of Lowe.
NickG Posted 1 September, 2009 Posted 1 September, 2009 if you start from being honest and accepting they are in the league we would like to be and over the last few years have been a better team than us, then why not take the mickey out of them? it would be silly to start claiming we are better than them however, they continually claim to sign great players and managers and end up with CCC level players (and from Mancini to Hart in the same takeover!) their new super fan owner is shown to be a fake dr and wears a too small shirt in with the fans! some come on here claiming they have the bigger support and they can't get as many for a prem game against the stars of Man City as we can in the 3rd tier players are queueing up to leave all are fair game!

GenevaSaint Posted 2 September, 2009 Posted 2 September, 2009 It has to be said defensively, they look good. Midfield and upfront are where the problems come.
Saint_Jonny Posted 2 September, 2009 Posted 2 September, 2009 They have lost some really quality players. I dont ever remember us having such an exodus, or ever selling to like likes of inter milan, real madrid and the billionaires City. They really have had a couple of fantastic years.
warsash saint Posted 2 September, 2009 Posted 2 September, 2009 It has to be said defensively, they look good. Midfield and upfront are where the problems come. But compared to the other crap in the division, I still feel they still have enough to stay up, sadly.
GenevaSaint Posted 2 September, 2009 Posted 2 September, 2009 But compared to the other crap in the division, I still feel they still have enough to stay up, sadly. Unfortunately I agree, strong defensively with potential for some goals even from that midfield/front line against weaker teams. I'm still holding out the hope that these signings just prolong things and they go down on the last day of the season on goal difference :-) Very interesting to see what happens between now and the Jan transfer window. If they're struggling will they splash the 50p they have left (unless the good Dr finds 10m from somewhere).
Torres Posted 2 September, 2009 Posted 2 September, 2009 From the F365 mailbox: Relegate Pompey Now As a Pompey fan I just want to say that since Pompey have now rebuilt their team to be capable of reaching the play-offs places in the Championship, I wonder if the Premier League would be justified in booting them out the league now right for not taking it seriously, and I would like introduced now a new rule that means that any parachute payments a club get when they are relegated from the Premier league cannot be more than the club has spent on players transfer fees and wages in the previous season, this would help protect clubs from asset stripping owners. I totally disagree with S Doyle's slating of Kranjcar, he is a class player and if you are going to slate a player maybe you could do better than misspell his name the 3 times you attempt to write it. I want the new owner to come out and say "look we are in the financial do-do and if we do not cut down on the wage bill we will go bankrupt, we should aim for financial safety and if premiership survival follows then that is a bonus." Then I would respect him and support him. I am not worried about relegation, I see it as a near certainty and I blame the new owner. Dave, Pompey

angelman Posted 2 September, 2009 Posted 2 September, 2009 It has to be said defensively, they look good. Greenridge Posted 3 September, 2009 Posted 3 September, 2009 Even Storrie is admitting they were very close to the brink on several occasions but it seems he had more persuasive powers than RL to keep the wolves from the door.

Surely he must have been working hand in glove with his close friend Mr Redknapp to spend money on transfers/wages way beyond the means of the club. In addition he was one of the highest paid Directors of any Prem club. Seems to me he is only staying to maintain this high salary and keep on station to act as a knight in shining armour as and when the new owner realises he has done the wrong thing

Lets keep reminding the Skates of the fact that he takes 1.5m per year for this role (seen that figure somewhere). It's not really surprising that he didn't throw his toys out of the pram when the Dr took over, why leave that gravy train behind of your own choice! Easy Money.

Season ticket holders must be happy I think we mooted the idea on here for us last season and most S/T holders were happy. Reduced prices didnt make that much difference.Plastic fans leave and will only return for the glamour games. They are right to try and get the ground full to get the atmosphere up although if the fans are starting to feel low it will take a performance to turn things around.HR will get his team to lie down and let them have a good win to appease them, he did when we went there under him.

Now, am I alone in thinking that no Premiership club is going to help out another without any string attached? Now, that might be an extra 25% on the payment owed, but it might also be more sinister like allowing that team to win and get itself out of trouble... I dunno, just thinking aloud.

His quotes make him out to be the valiant hero battling to save the club while skilfully swerving the fact that he signed all the cheques to get them in the plop in the first place. Anyway, Corp and co have been telling us that Pompey have less debt any other club on earth and are the most financially ship shape club in the Premier League, so presumably Storrie is just making this all up.

Weston Saint Posted 5 September, 2009 Posted 5 September, 2009 The natives are still restless bless them. POMPEY VIRTUAL ALLIANCE STATEMENTPosted: Sat Sep 05, 2009 8:48 am Portsmouth Football Club has been bought. The transfer window is closed. The time has come for a united front. We welcome the takeover of the club by Sulaiman Al Fahim in principle. In moving decisively to buy PFC, he has seemingly ensured the spectre of administration has been exorcised for the foreseeable future and that the dead hand of Sacha Gaydamak has been lifted. Al Fahim has pursued the club with a single-minded dedication and clearly wants to take it forward. He brings energy, a flair for entrepreneurialism and a contacts book to die for. We await with interest to see to what extent he is willing to invest himself and bring investment into the club ahead of the next transfer window. We would also like clarification as to the means by which the takeover was financed and its implications for PFC. The interests of PFC are also served by ensuring Peter Storrie, the club's Chief Executive Officer, is allowed to continue, at the very least, in his current role. We recognise and are grateful for the work Storrie has put in to ensure PFC remained on a relatively even keel during the last ten months. We also acknowledge his role in bringing an alternative consortium to the table, which we hope may yet have a significant part to play in the longer-term future of the club, especially if they really are able take the club to a 'level you wouldn't believe' as Storrie thinks. We feel that there is a golden opportunity for a coming together of all parties in the medium to long term to ensure Portsmouth Football Club is able to finally engage in the vital infrastructure projects it needs to ensure its financial self-sufficiency. These include a new stadium and training ground, as well as investing prudently in team building to maintain Premier League status. Above all, the club needs to cultivate improved relations with its fan base. To that end, the supporters represented by the websites in Pompey Virtual Alliance are seeking clarity, reassurance and a sense of common goal. PFC has been - and remains in some quarters - an easy media target. Many damaging statements have been allowed to gain currency among fans and foes of the club alike. It is time to come together to clear away the uncertainty which has sapped morale in the past six weeks. We seek clarity and detail on the long-term vision for PFC, already outlined by Mr Al Fahim. We seek reassurance on the ownership status of the club and its ongoing debt position. We seek acknowledgement that a successful future for the club is intrinsicly bound to engaging in constructive dialogue with fans, leading to a shared sense of a common goal.
spyinthesky Posted 5 September, 2009 Posted 5 September, 2009 Understand this was written by a PR mate of Piers Morgan who, apparently, is a staunch supporter of the Fake Sheik. Can you honestly believe that someone from the dark side of Hampshire could be so erudite?
