Corporate Ho Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 If he is still on the baord does that not mean that one company would have vested interests in both Man City AND Portsmouth. Is that allowed? Hydra Properties have nothing whatsoever to do with Man City or Pompey. As has been repeatedly stated. Keep up. Aren't questions being asked about Hydra's method of operation. Isn't it a sort of Ponzi scheme? Fit and proper eh? But as Al Fahim is just an employee of Hydra and not it's owner why would that be an issue? I think we should sit back and wait. We have the warm glow of the takeover. Ho has had more info than MI5 fed to him.If it wasnt the training ground, it was that they had just started the redevelopment of FP, and then the great big stadium definitely going ahead, then Germans, Arabs, Finnish, Russian, American takeovers. To be fair they havent had the TL type events but to outdo us im sure they will. If i was a Pompey fan the only thing that would really worry me is that they sold their top player who had just signed a 5year contract. If they were to be taken over by a multi billionaire i would have thought he would have stopped the sale and said we will build the team around him. Not sell but hold and buy. I still think they will get the deal, they always get the luck in these last 5-10years Nick, you really do come across as thick sometimes. I've never said that the ground at the Hard would go ahead and work has started on the training ground, it obviously stopped when Gaydamak decided to sell the club until a new owner comes in. As for Johnson, as I've already replied to at least three of your posts on this topic (obsessed? You?), the reason Johnson signed a 4 (not 5) year contract was because we agreed to allow him to move if a top 4 club came in for him. If we hadn't agreed to that he wouldn't have signed it and if he hadn't signed that long term contract we wouldn't have got so much money for him. It's not rocket science, is it? Could you maybe confirm that you understand now so we don't have to go over it again. As for the various bidders who have been interested in Pompey you yourself have posted about interest from German and Far eastern groups so what you know that people have been sniffing around so stop playing silly buggers

CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 Err, I think you'll find that Pompey's position is built on loans from banks rather than any money from Gaydamak. Britain's position in the world however is more than partly built on arms dealing. If you really find arms dealing that distasteful and want to assume a moral high ground I suggest you emigrate. Oh I think your Chairman's position has got everything to do with daddy's blood money , as for debating the morality of the world arm trade in general I fear we're straying a tad too far from the comparison of SFC & PFC's respective owners on a football forum there ! eelpie Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 I don't want Pompey to die, any more than I want any football club to collapse. Nether do I like the smell of doubtful minted owners taking over clubs and bank rolling success for them. We have been very lucky, it could have been so different. But it will do no harm for Portsmouth to suffer frustrations for as long as it takes until they do get the right sort of owner. And so interminable delays are not a bad thing in the long term. WE needed a dose of reality. We were above ourselves and believed the football world owed us a place in the top flight. How we learned the hard way. In the old days Saints success was about growing our own talented youngsters and being able to keep them. Since Bosman and Sky money all that is past. Our new owner is not going to splash silly money to buy success. We are going to have to impress him by playing our way upwards by graft and football skill and proper management, which will take time The skates will one day have to adjust to reality too like we have had to. When I was a kid The Echo and other south coast papers highlighted local teams saints, Portsmouth Bournemouth, Aldershot in bold type in the tables, because many people supported Hampshire clubs as their second teams. It would be nice if the skates and us were in the same division and rivalry was on level playing fields again, based on football skill, not money. But that is unrealistic too. And hey, our owner is rich!

Saint Billy Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 To be fair, I have seen a mix of responses by pompey fans to our plight, some supportive and some wanting us to die as a club. I dont think football would be the same if either club went out of business. Both sides represent football in Hampshire and I would like to see both sides continue the age old battle of number one in Hampshire. They hold that slot atm but hopefully soon we can once again regain our natural position. Let battle commence!
GenevaSaint Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 (edited) FWIW, while the deal could still fall apart I was told yesterday by someone who's actually involved in the takeover that whilst there were still a few issues to sort out it's still very much on. Time will tell I guess, but I wouldn't laugh too loudly too soon if I were you. I'm not party to the whole thing but if the rumour about where the money's coming from (and how much of it there is ready to be used on players and improving the club) are true you lot are going to be pig sick. . Funny a few little issues to sort out is what Pinnacle said, the little issue turned out to be no money to complete the deal as you well know :-) I'm sure lots on here have high expectations about our new billionaire owner. I like alot of others though are just happy to have a club. Even without major new investment we are no longer hamstrung by the stadium debt. We will hopefully be self sufficient, if that means 1 - 5m per season from servicing loans on improvements to the squad I'd be happy, that cash can go along way in L1 you know. Wes Tender Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 There is a pendulum that swings in the fortunes of the two clubs. The Skates heyday was the wartime years when they had the advantage of players in the forces playing for them and they were champions the year of my birth. During the years of my youth and for most of my adult life, their fortunes declined as Saint's fortunes rose, with a 27 year stint in the top flight while Pompey languished one or two divisions below for much of that time. When we gained Lowe and became a PLC, we underwent two relegations while Pompey got lucky with two successive takeovers from people with considerably more money than we have ever had and so the pendulum had swung totally the other way. I am content that the pendulum is about to swing the other way again. We have an owner now who is considerably more wealthy than the two past Pompey owners put together and our debts have been wiped out, whereas they are a club laden with debt and even if this current deal goes through for them, I can see future problems. They are the ones having to sell the family silver to keep on an even keel and their future is uncertain until their current plight is resolved. I'm sure that in the next few years, the pendulum will have swung the other way and we will resume our natural position as the South's major force in football. Joensuu Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 Well I for one would like to see both clubs strong and competitive (with Saints having the edge of course). When either team is weakened the other set of fans will get to have a gloat, but in the long run the rivalry is only fun when you go to the derby unsure of who will win. You need to look at the psychology of rivalry to really understand how to get under the skins of your rivals. A perfect example can be seen with England/Scotland. Have you ever noticed how Scots generally hate the English; but the feeling generally isn't mutual. Basically as England grew in strength, the rivalry with Scotland began to mean less... but for Scots there is nothing more annoying than when your sworn rival is ambivalent. To put this back into a Saints/Pompey perspective: the day we start ignoring the rivalry, is the day that we will really begin to annoy Pompey.... so let's not give them the satisfaction of gloating! EFM Posted 9 July, 2009 Share Posted 9 July, 2009 Surely real fans on here can't seriously want Pompey to go out of business, have you forgotten the atmosphere at SMS when we played them and that feeling at the final whistle when we beat them? Nope I don't want them to go out of business, i just want their fans to perpetually suffer and go back to being the nothing club that they have been for most of my life. We can beat them twice in the season we pass them going in opposite directions and then the occasional cup humiliation for them. I do agree that the atmosphere is second to none when we play them and seeing the look on their fishy faces when they get stuffed every time they play at ours is a joy but really it should be an infrequent luxury while they wallow in the mire as is the true natural order of things. As RedAndWhite91 has said "I want them to stay in business, but just as a weaker, less smug team. With no m/billionaire owner." That pretty much sums up my feeling towards them. Its been very difficult 4 years for Saints and to focus on Pompey now is a little silly as we have rebuilding to do. But I would like to see us back in the rightful place, which is comfortably above them in the league. I have a some what contradictory attitude towards Pompey, I think it is stupid to hate a person because of where they come and don’t mind a bit of friendly rival. But I do get passionate about my city, I don’t care that Portsmouth have Gun Wharf or the Spinnaker Tower, Southampton is a much better place just through location and smell So I would hate to see any big money deal for their club happen. I hope it does fail just to put the Pompey fans who where having street parties when we went into admin back in their place. I would also love to see a Lowe/Marc Jackson bid for them, as I believe that to be more realistic takeover for their city Like I said I have a some what contradictory attitude towards Pompey, they are ok but we are just better
