miserableoldgit Posted 27 August, 2009 Posted 27 August, 2009 We're both right! His biography - "Tommy Cooper - Always Leave Them Laughing", page 41 It says that they moved into a shop 124 Shirley Road in 1948 ... currently 'Johnny's Fish and Chips'. They started selling fish but that business failed and his mother converted the shop into a haberdashery... A sort of battery-hattery then.
rpb Posted 27 August, 2009 Posted 27 August, 2009 A sort of battery-hattery then. Could you stick to correcting grammar, please?
miserableoldgit Posted 27 August, 2009 Posted 27 August, 2009 Could you stick to correcting grammar, please? Yes, Sir!
miserableoldgit Posted 27 August, 2009 Posted 27 August, 2009 Looking at the goings-on with Dr Who, perhaps we should change the thread title to "Oh Happy Day - PFC Takeover Completes"
Daren W Posted 27 August, 2009 Posted 27 August, 2009 That surely is a case of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. They get the dodgy potless doctor when Storrie had a genuinely wealthy benefactor lined up. !!!! I know... Priceless... lol
OldNick Posted 27 August, 2009 Posted 27 August, 2009 of course the Dr could turn a profit and sell it to the storrie lot.

Fitzhugh Fella Posted 27 August, 2009 Author Posted 27 August, 2009 Looking at the goings-on with Dr Who, perhaps we should change the thread title to "Oh Happy Day - PFC Takeover Completes" I still don't reckon he has taken over completely - have PFC released a statement yet? I am enjoying this more and more - especially as a serious wealthy backer backed by the trustworthy (ahem) Peter Storrie appears to be thwarted at the post by an impoverished imposter. This is delicious irony and I almost wish I was living in Portsmouth to hear the reaction. Might drive out east this afternoon and buy myself a News or better still wait until the news sinks in and buy the "football echo" on Saturday. Oh happy day!!!!!

JonnyLove Posted 27 August, 2009 Posted 27 August, 2009 Just remember doesn't mater how much money someone has if they are not willing to put the money in then it means nothing. I very much expect this to be the case. There is also another theory as to why and how the good DR has purchased the club but if I put it up here then I am very sure I would get in trouble but If you think hard about it I am sure you can all work it out.

Smirking_Saint Posted 27 August, 2009 Posted 27 August, 2009 Lol, as i said in another thread. He is hardly making a statement of intent, what with the potential signings of Tommy Smith and Mike Williamson.

Colinjb Posted 27 August, 2009 Posted 27 August, 2009 (edited) And Distin signs for Everton. A real show of power for the Good Doctor. Edited 27 August, 2009 by Colinjb
Lord Duckhunter Posted 27 August, 2009 Posted 27 August, 2009 You couldn't make it up.............. Day after a takeover, Skates lose Distin, sign Tommy Smith and are linked with Michael Brown and some Watford Centre half.

As St Marys is ours would of though we would get good money from pompy if they did share our ground! Don't think it will happen though.

benjii Posted 27 August, 2009 Posted 27 August, 2009 (edited) http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/aug/27/portsmouth-sulaiman-al-fahim-premier-league Bit strange really - questioning the "source of his funds". Sounds like he's restuctured the debt and bought the club for a nominal amount so the soruce of his "funds" could be a £1 online transfer from his current account. "Where do you get that squid Sulaiman?" - "I sold a '99 innit". If they want to know how he is going to fund the debt obligations then won't that involve quesitoning him on his future business plan? I wouldn't have thought the FA's ambit went that far; aren't they just concerned with the "here and now" of where any purchase monies came from? Presumably he will continue the search for more significant funds going forwards, after all, that is what equity investment companies do. I suppose if there is a sudden influx of cash later then that will need to be shown to be above board. Sorry Skates, I don't think the Premier League will save you from this one. angelman Posted 27 August, 2009 Posted 27 August, 2009 think that the PL dont want Thaksin Shinawhatshisname back and he seems to be the money behind this. So Storrie may still ride to the rescue. Oh why couldn't we have had a takeover like this.....
NickG Posted 28 August, 2009 Posted 28 August, 2009 signings don't look like serious effort to stay in prem - more prep for next season. players wouldn't have been stunned if we had signed them in league 1

OldNick Posted 28 August, 2009 Posted 28 August, 2009 it has been IMO a clever piece of business. He has a club on the cheap and if they stay up he has hit the jackpot, if they go down they have a massive parachute payment to get them up again. His signings are to build for that it seems. They will be like the next WBA yo-yoing the leagues and will get stronger. The timing of our relegation out of the PL made us miss the real trappings of the money to stay up.The Skates just by having a position in that league will survive and still be in the upper reachs of the CCC or scrape by in the PL. We have to try and get up with them. They will not be passing us by IMO
Crab Lungs Posted 28 August, 2009 Posted 28 August, 2009 LMFAO, ****ing hell, i thought we were a mess.... Portsmouth fans clearly have no idea, do they? They've just been taken over by the only arab without any money, they think Storrie has done a good job for them (note for all you fishies, he was part of the reason the club was criminally overstretched), signing just above average CCC players, trialing L2 players and now they can't sell out their ground - again. But if you keep sticking your head in the Southsea shingle, I'm sure it'll all work out ok...
Thedelldays Posted 28 August, 2009 Posted 28 August, 2009 what makes me laugh...on pompey fans-online site...they think markus is selling our crown jewels and asset stripping us... lol
