No, I stayed home, my missus took her mum instead, I'm really poorly. Well, I'm disappointed with the game, should of been 2-0 at half time. However, in the grand scheme of things it's the right result and should force some issues. The good thing about all this (If there is a good thing), Is that relegation holds no fear, it's the liquidation that concerns me. :)

Spin doctor

Meaning

 

A political press agent or publicist employed to promote a favourable interpretation of events to journalists.

 

Origin

 

This is of American origin and came about during the 1980s, when the need for 'sound bites' became pressing enough to require a new class of publicist to provide them. The earliest printed references are from that period, For example, this from The New York Times, October 1984:

 

"A dozen men in good suits and women in silk dresses will circulate smoothly among the reporters, spouting confident opinions. They won't be just press agents trying to impart a favorable spin to a routine release. They'll be the Spin Doctors, senior advisers to the candidates."

 

So, why 'spin'? For the derivation of that we need to go back to yarn. We know that sailors and other storytellers have a reputation for spinning yarns. Given a phrase in the language like 'spin a yarn', we might expect to assume that a yarn was a tall tale and that the tellers spun it out. That's not quite right though. Until the phrase was coined, yarn was just thread. The phrase was coined as an entity, just meaning 'tell a tale'. That came about in the early 19th century and was first written down in James Hardy Vaux's A new and comprehensive vocabulary of the flash language, in 1812:

 

"Yarning or spinning a yarn, signifying to relate their various adventures, exploits, and escapes to each other."

Now maybe I'm wrong, but lets just assume for a moment that a a consortium are/were in talks and are going through due diligence, and then midway through these negotiations the main asset being the ground is removed, then surely that would put them off a little? Or am I missing something here?

Does a thread about Pompey's proposed takeover that reaches three pages in a couple of hours once again demonstrate just how little you care about Pompey? :D FWIW, while the deal could still fall apart I was told yesterday by someone who's actually involved in the takeover that whilst there were still a few issues to sort out it's still very much on. Time will tell I guess, but I wouldn't laugh too loudly too soon if I were you. I'm not party to the whole thing but if the rumour about where the money's coming from (and how much of it there is ready to be used on players and improving the club) are true you lot are going to be pig sick.

 

 

 

Err, I think you'll find that Pompey's position is built on loans from banks rather than any money from Gaydamak. Britain's position in the world however is more than partly built on arms dealing. If you really find arms dealing that distasteful and want to assume a moral high ground I suggest you emigrate.

 

 

 

I assume you're talking about Hydra Properties here. Rather than being "sacked" Al Fahim is no longer CEO of Hydra but is still a main board director of the company. As for raising the money from Abu Dhabi, that's not where it's rumoured to be coming from. Try Germany.

Why does anyone need to undertake due diligence? The statement of affairs delivered to court is as good as DD. Someone saying that they are undertaking it is a red herring and to me it is being done by a mate of Storrie's so that he can come out of it smelling of roses. He can say someone was lined up but the courts didn't give enough time so not his fault. So blame courts/HMRC and not him.

regarding the proposed takeovers, could someone remind me why anybody in their right mind, who had, say, £25m spare cash, would want to spend it on a hopelessly indebted PL club, with almost no assets, on the brink of relegation?

 

If they do stay up, at least there is the sky money to launder, but if they go down.......?

 

Perhaps I have missed something.

 

 

And just to bulk out one of my three threads, if a team with Higgy, Delap, and fuller can thrive in the PL, surely we can win 14 of our remaining games to reach the playoffs?

What makes me laugh is BBC radios coverage of Pompey. I think it was that Orford guy who said they were on form now and were showing signs of getting out of the drop zone under Avram Grant. This is the biggest myth of them all. Of the last 8 games and 24 points on offer they have managed to collect a massive....2 points, they are still last in the form guide. Scoring 4 and letting in a massive 18. How the fook do they get they are in form from that record?! I think half the problem is guys like that don't want to tell it like it really is because they naturally want people to feel hope. But they are dead and burried. Grant has won i think 3 games of his 14 league games in charge. The last being on 19th dec against liverpool, almost three months ago. You can't go that length of time without a win and expect to survive.

 

They are down and should now be starting to think about life in the CCC rather then trying to do deals based on if they stay in the PL.

did I hear right, they have had their debt to the current owner and sasha cleared, and current owner has also given them £15m for the stadium?

 

So are they saved?

 

and the takeover is going well and hope to make announcement on Monday.

As for Gaydamak, he has got paid for the land and is happy to walk away.

It isn't going to happen Bobby. After much umming and Ahhring, I have decided to join the (after today) 1000 strong Pompey Trust. Agreements have been secured with various entities to ensure Portsmouth Football Club, the PFC you all know and love, will compete next year. We will of course be no match playing wise for our beloved rivals in the third teir of English Football, the gulf will exist much like it did last week, however I can assure you this will, in no way lessen my affection for all things (ok, most things) Pompey. This will make us stronger than ever and whilst I would never choose it (Too scared of the unknown!), strangely I'm looking forward to it! Should we die in our current form, things will not be better for you, though I wont deny you'll get much short lived (It'll fade soon enough) pleasure from our actual demise. It will be the most high profile 'Death' of a Football club since Fiorentina, our name 'Pompey' will be synonimous with Success, Excess, Mismanagement, Death and finally Rebirth. To paraphrase the great Obi Wan Kenobi;

 

 

 

'Strike us down and we will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine!'

 

Still you guys get back to your Gloating, Pontificating and all round general enjoyment of our high profile demise, I enjoy interacting with you all on here and bear none of you any malice whatsoever, just remember this post in 3 or 4 years as I promise you, the best thing that can happen for you as Saints fans is Porstmouth existing in its current form, Administrated, sold and eventually struggling in the lower leagues, NOT a Liquidated, reborn PFC. But Grant still held a glimmer of hope the owner was moving towards a solution when he was summoned to the Hilton Hotel on London's Park Lane.

That hope was dashed when he left the hotel two hours later ashen-faced with news that there was no new investment in place and that Chainrai was adamant he would not be throwing more good money after bad.

No - they do not have that option.....

 

and if they are still at the proof of funds stage, they are miles from finalising a deal. Proof of funds was one of the first stages of our takeover. It took weeks and weeks between proving funds and being taken over.
