pedg Posted 10 February, 2010 Share Posted 10 February, 2010 (edited) Times article is very informative.. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/portsmouth/article7021577.ece They have appealed the VAT apparently but it would not be heard til June and surprise surprise they wanted it postponed till then. More surprisingly is that pompey prepared one of these statements for the PL last month but did not send a copy to HMRC. + lots of other interesting bits -- If they did prepare such a statement for the PL then one guesses it must have shown they were not trading while insolvent otherwise the PL would have had to act?? Question is then was it a correct statement or one that had been manipulated to show them in a better position than was the case? Channon's Sideburns Posted 10 February, 2010 Share Posted 10 February, 2010 Mark Fry on Solent. Surprised they got given 7 days to repay - evidence given today is normally deemed sufficient for Winding Up. They cannot go into voluntary admin - a petition from a creditor would be needed. Short timescale, in his view, for any takeover to happen. Asked whether he would get involved if asked, he said yes.
Nellie Posted 10 February, 2010 Share Posted 10 February, 2010 I was under the impression that a place inb the Wessex League had been agreed. Don't think anyone has approached the Wessex League as of yet. I'm not sure they would until the final nail is hammered into PFC.

One said the whole city were Poopey fans, and that's the only shirt you see around the city.....Dohhh Yehhh!!!! the reason being, that if you wear anything else, you get the sh1t kicked out of you. Lord Duckhunter Posted 10 February, 2010 Share Posted 10 February, 2010 I think the financial criteria for conference clubs is as strict if not stricter than the PL and would not accept you. The Conference criteria is a lot stricter than the FL/Pl. However, it only applies to existing or promoted sides. Any sides relegated from the FL are not subject to the same criteria. This was a concession agreed by the Conference in return for 2 up 2 down from League 1. So the conference would take them.

rallyboy Posted 10 February, 2010 Share Posted 10 February, 2010 so they have a week to organise a bidding war between these two massive consortiums looking to pump millions into the sleeping giant, and they also need to overturn the way that VAT is calculated in the UK. They still don't get it do they? It's over, let it go... But do pop round and say goodbye at the weekend, Ted's still waving.

Just got a feeling they'll somehow get away with it There is no somehow now. The judge has told them what they must do. They must show they have the financial resources to continue trading in a normal way by next friday. Meaning they have to have been takenover and cleared the debt by then. If they haven't they have no other way to save their bacon. The only reason they were given more time was because they said they were close to being taken over which would clear the debt. The taxman didn't believe it, the judge sounded like they didn't believe it. But gave them 7 days instead of the normal 28 days. That looked like a last chance saloon offer. i.e your defence is based on you saying your being taken over, if your not by next week then your probably never going to be. Joensuu Posted 10 February, 2010 Share Posted 10 February, 2010 (edited) Storrie is on the Quay right now, here's a Skate's summary: Will not appear in Court until Monday week at the earliest. The PAYE money is in the bank and could be paid to HMRC now if they want it but they want the full amount. The club (as in the OS statement) is disputing the £7.4m VAT bill and this has gone to a VAT arbitration panel to resolve. PS said gave information to the Court today of proof of two groups seriously interested, but was hard work as they dont want their names in the press untill they take over the club. He said a third group has come in today and they are currently in process of finding out if they are serious, The club have also got a business plan to keep the club going should the potential investors back out. Danial Azougy was in Court today but only as a bystander had no imput at all. Chainrai has not offered to underwrit the money because he has not been in long enough to totally assess everything, Claimed Tanya Robbins had to do a lot of work to undo the damage done by the last owners people. Wages are covered by Chainrai for the rest of the season Edit... some other skate's have corrected the above: I thought he said that Chainrai will cover this months wages without reference being made beyond that.[/Quote] Edited 10 February, 2010 by Joensuu Skate poster ****ed it up
saint J Posted 10 February, 2010 Share Posted 10 February, 2010 From todays Guardian Fiver... FOR WHOM THAT ANNOYING BELL TOLLS Fans of rich-again Southampton were overcome by relief this afternoon after a high court judge granted their south-coast neighbours Portsmouth a stay of execution, meaning Pompey will remain in existence long enough to be mercilessly taunted by them, waving wads of Monopoly money and fake-sheikh headgarb during Saturday's impendingly-boisterous FA Cup tie at St Mary's. I wonder if liquidation is actually an advantage to Gaydamak? I thought that a while ago. The club goes to the wall, and all of a sudden Gaydamak's land around the ground, as well as Chanrai's land (the ground itself), suddenly has worth for development potential. And they don't have to pay back any of the money they have siphoned from the club when it gets liquidated. We can only hope.
