Pompey Takeover Saga

LOL, like it or not, Due to a few raucous showings of support in our early Premiership days and of course, extremely lazy journlism, Pompey Fans are considered amongst the most Loyal, Passionate, Vociferous fans around. Not even my opinion, but the opinion of the media who have dubbed us as such. Other clubs to enjoy this lazy perception include Newcastle, West Brom and Stoke City. Southampton for some reason dont have to suffer this ridiculous generalisation. :)

Another little snippet for you PES, regarding your 'Great' fans.....

...The figures showed that last season six football banning orders were imposed on Saints fans compared to nine the previous season. The club currently has 19 football banning orders in operation placing it middle of the League One table with the highest number of bans dished out by Leeds United (162) and Millwall (110).

Pompey saw three football banning orders introduced last season with the club’s current total standing at 88 – the second highest of any Premier League club.....

I think thats extremely harsh... the lunatic Fringe (gotta love that description Lowe) at Pompey are extremely vocal and like it or not are seen as great supporters. If we had a bellend like W******d, who lets face it, makes a fcking good poster boy (think of pompey fans you think of him straight away... can you think of any other clubs where you can identify one of their fans ..) be more known than we are.

We have pretty much identical hardcore fan bases (around 12k each).. the biggest probelm for Pompey regarding catchment areas etc is that they are closer to London so naturally a lot of swing voters as they are, would follow London clubs...

Not that It makes one jot of difference to the respective hardcore fan bases of each club.

George Michael sums this all up quite well

"These are the days of the open hand

They will not be the last

Look around now

These are the days of the beggars and the choosers

This is the year of the hungry man

Whose place is in the past

Hand in hand with ignorance

And legitimate excuses

The rich declare themselves poor

And most of us are not sure

If we have too much

But we'll take our chances

'Cause God's stopped keeping score

I guess somewhere along the way

He must have let us all out to play

Turned his back and all pompey's children

Crept out the back door

And it's hard to love, there's so much to hate

Hanging on to hope

When there is no hope to speak of

And the wounded skies above say it's much, much too late

Well maybe they should all be praying for time"

Sorry Joey, but that's just wrong... The best way to calculate a club's hardcore is to see how low their league attendance has dropped. Over the last thirty years the lowest our average average league attendance has ever dropped to is 14,544 .The equivenlent for the Skates is 8,269. They have a significantly smaller hardcore than we do.

I am inclined to agree with both you and Gemmel but its not just about profit that attracts people to buying a club is it. There are people interested for whatever reason I have no idea why....I wouldn't lol

I'd agree with this to a certain extent but nor are they interested in pouring millions down the drain. If by just paying off the debts, they could make a reasonable business case, then I'm sure people would take a punt but with outgoings far exceeding incomings and stadium and training developments being as far away as ever, what is anybody going to get out of it, apart from much, much poorer?

Oh FFS do we have to ruin this thread with the fan debate again, its ******* b-0-llocks, what difference does it make if you have 10k hardcore or 20k or whatever, its about what you do on the pitch

makes quite a difference actually, as those wages on 20k you got were never going to be sustainable

Leeds couldnt sustain it on double those attendances and with lower wages

We need a petition for that to be played in the build up to the game and at half time.

One to hum along to...all together now

I clicked on the link and it made me cry with laughter!!! Seriously though they should play this at St Mary's when the teams come out, now that would be funny ;)

Depending on what happens on the 10th of course! If HMRC lets them off the hook before they play us it wouldn't be half as funny...

Getting a banning order is a good way of not being accused of being a plastic, JCL fan for not going. "It's those pesky football authorities stopping me from going, not the fact that the team is sh!t and I can't be @rsed!"

LOL - When they look at your books mate I suspect they will run a mile.

P*rtsmouth is financial suicide for any businessman looking for a profit to invest in. The club will only be attractive when it is in administration and all debts are cleared.

I am almost certain you won't get an investor before then... to get P*mpey on the straight and narrow and a competitive Premiership team of the future, the new owner will need to spend Man City type money on players, stadium, increasing the fanbase, training ground etc etc...

Investors are not going to spend that sort of money on a club like P*rtsmouth when they can buy clubs like Newcastle etc for alot less... even Crystal Palace would be more attractive as a football club than P*rtsmouth in my opinion.

Very true

It appears that all is OK, and they are saved. You really coudn't make it up, mind you, if two iintelligent skates (PES & Mero), think all is well, then it explains why this pondlife are rubbing their hands.

Loyal....******* loyal pes???????????????????????????????????????

I have never seen such dis loyal fans in my life. The empty seats in your stadium , when your club needs you most suggest not. Oh and one week it is "Theres only one peter story" the next match you want his blood.

Loyal is not a word that the general football fan associates with pompey.

Read my post again Gemmel, I said it was a lazy media perception. The truth is Some fans are loyal, some fans arent, if you think Saints have got 32,000 loyal fans then fair enough, I can't be bothered to argue the point with you. :)

Steve Bull.

Walked around with 'Le Tissier 7' on the back of his shirt... could easily have been mistaken for the great man in his final season ;)

1: The Fit and Proper Persons Test: It is clear to us fans that it doesn't work as Daniel Azougy's activity at Portsmouth FC has shown. How will it ensure effective ownership of Portsmouth FC going forward?

2: The Premier League's powers to regulate and even Administer Portsmouth FC: Is this a viable option and if not how can the Premier League help us to save Portsmouth FC?

3: Suitability of punishments for entering Administration: Due to the unique circumstances that have beset Portsmouth FC, the Premier League should accept that there SHOULD NOT be any points deduction if the club enters Administration or is taken over by the Premier League.

4: The process if Peter Storrie should be convicted of cheating the Public Revenue. What will happen to Portsmouth FC?

Got to love 3 :D

Fat Chance!!!

Interesting piece from the Times from last September.

So, at that time, when Al Mirage took over, the debts had been reduced to around a 'managable' £10M......are you sure?????

---

Storrie says that he and Portsmouth have been “to hell and back” since the start of the year, wrestling with debts of £60 million, looming repayment deadlines and the near-permanent threat of administration. After the sales of Lassana Diarra, Jermain Defoe, Glen Johnson, Peter Crouch and others, as well as the receipt of the first instalment of this season’s Premier League broadcast revenue, those debts are down to an almost manageable £10 million — a figure that is among the lowest in the top flight — so, under al-Faraj, Portsmouth appear, finally, to have the opportunity to move forward.

---

In that case, that's one hell of a spending spree between now and then. Or was someone telling porkies??

Chainrai taken control now to make sure he can look at the books, the extent of the mess and then decide if Administration might be the only way before next Wednesday?

I expect that is exactly what has happened. Couldn't get any answers from Faraj so decided to get his feet under the desk and have a look himself.

The next few days are pivotal for the future of PFC. Will Chanrai give the thumbs up or the thumbs down?!

Regarding point 3. What on earth are the unique circumstances that justify Portsmouth not being docked 9 points should they go into administration?

This delegation is a joke.

Their wonderful (and easily misled) fans don't you know?

Bizarre isn't it?!

Spending 91% of turnover on player wages and then not being able to find a billionaire to finance that.

Yeah, truly unique. No club ever financed player wgaes on the never-never.

Thats the same article!

I think they updated the title and sub-title to express the denial.

Also, looking at some skate forums, they are hoping for 3 points from the FA because of Shorey, who played against them had already played for two teams this season:

Our hardcore fanbases are most definately not similar.

They have 9,000 STH in the Premiership

We have 13,500 STH in League 1

If we were in the Premiership then we would have around 23,000 STH

If Pompey were in League 1 then they would have around 6,000 imo

As much as the skates hate to admit it, we have a MUCH larger fanbase, that is fact.

As for swing voters following London clubs... they are only 7 miles closer to London!

Straws clutching at. If they want to revoke the FA rule about an emergency loans not counting then they had better take their keeper back and return the 3.25M to stoke as that's the only reason he was able to be sold.
