moonraker Posted 20 April, 2016 Posted 20 April, 2016 I like the Irony that our Antonym, Northampton, may well be the team that consigns them another season in the Real Fans league, and with the Northampton RFU team also called The Saints there really would be some karma if it happens.
buctootim Posted 20 April, 2016 Posted 20 April, 2016 What's people's preferred scenario - miss out on a playoff place or lose in the semi or final? Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk Dont mind, whichever leads to the biggest cat fight and a threeway split between the 'Presidents', the Trust and the fans
trousers Posted 20 April, 2016 Posted 20 April, 2016 What's people's preferred scenario - miss out on a playoff place or lose in the semi or final? There's still a part of me that actually hopes they get promoted as that will be the trigger for them to start spending beyond their means. They've struggled in Division 4 even with the advantage they have over other clubs in terms of match day income. Just imagine how much more they'll struggle in Division 3 with the same resources. The temptation to overspend in order to be 'competitive' will be irresistible and is likely to lead to another crash. Whether that is more entertaining than watching them bumble along in Division 4 for another season (or more) is a close run thing. One thing is certain, there's still plenty of amusement coming our way whether they get promoted or not.

Already had the skate at work claiming they take more to Wembley than any other team, and that it'll be their sixth time there so it's like their second home blah blah blah. Hope they **** it up big time!
rallyboy Posted 20 April, 2016 Posted 20 April, 2016 That alleged spat just highlights how their business model is terminally flawed. They need outside investment, but they want to hang onto their 48% majority share. The Trust have three members on the seven man board and a minority shareholding so giving away more of the club will make no difference, they'll still all pretend that fans have 'shares'. The few need to decide what they want - to continue pretending they own something and get to enjoy more nights like last night, or to take some investment and get to compete with bigger clubs like Fleetwood, Chesterfield and Bury. Personally I think they will decide to continue pretending stuff - like we own our club, and League Two is real football, not like the nasty Championship etc.

If they aren't careful they're going to be locked into some intractable Mexican standoff.
Mr Biscuits Posted 20 April, 2016 Posted 20 April, 2016 Definitely miss out on the playoffs. Seeing them get a playoff and then losing it would be good however I'm an evil vindictive sodpot who wants them to suffer for another season in League Two so I don't want them to have a chance of promotion at all.

So I think that, in reality, it's sod all to do with the Trust.
Hatch Posted 20 April, 2016 Posted 20 April, 2016 What's people's preferred scenario - miss out on a playoff place or lose in the semi or final? Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk easy choice, miss out on play offs. Wouldn't want to see 750,000 of the very bestest filling Wembley 10 x over.

Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk Miss out for me. I would like them to end the season in disgrace, dropping into 8th on the final day on goal difference having shown a complete lack of fight and losing 1-0. I want Champagne Iain escorted from the premises after wrestling with Cook over the last bottle of booze, a red card, fans booing at half time and tears of hope running down a rosy cheeked face (eventually forming a river of despair). The smell of desperation in the air amongst the few will be foul, as reality sinks in of their total failure. A playoff defeat would be hilarious, but I'd prefer them to finish the season on a crushingly low point.

fish fingers Posted 20 April, 2016 Posted 20 April, 2016 I'd go for a humiliating heavy 1st leg play off defeat away from home, meaning a pointless 2nd leg at their place.
Mr Biscuits Posted 20 April, 2016 Posted 20 April, 2016 I'd go for a humiliating heavy 1st leg play off defeat away from home, meaning a pointless 2nd leg at their place. Oh that would be good. Thing is though I just really really don't want them to even get a sniff of a playoff chance. I realise that the likely scenario is they will do enough for the playoffs however it's still not set in stone and time is running out for them. Have to congratulate them on keeping us entertained, and this thread going for far longer than most of us thought possible. I wonder if they would want to add this to their huge great big long list of achievements.
Toadhall Saint Posted 20 April, 2016 Posted 20 April, 2016 No play off, no **** all for that lot down the road ever.
SW5 SAINT Posted 20 April, 2016 Posted 20 April, 2016 About 20 miles, give or take I thinks its only about 17 to be honest.......
Golden Balls Posted 20 April, 2016 Posted 20 April, 2016 No play offs. That would be a huge failure and cause more sulking. Plus, they'll make money from play offs, so no.
Waterside.saint Posted 20 April, 2016 Posted 20 April, 2016 No play offs. That would be a huge failure and cause more sulking. Plus, they'll make money from play offs, so no. Quite right. Maximum disappointment, please
Pedro Posted 20 April, 2016 Posted 20 April, 2016 I think they will make the play offs and then lose in the semis. They can then write to the "shareholders" to "buy" more shares ready for a promotion push next season.
The9 Posted 20 April, 2016 Posted 20 April, 2016 Their last 4 games: Wycombe home - still going for the playoffs, but have drawn 4 of the last 5 Wimbledon away - another direct rival Hartlepool away - midtable, nothing to play for Northampton home - already champions, still going for 100 points. Not easy by any means... Hartlepool have hit a decent run of form under Craig Hignett as well.
The9 Posted 20 April, 2016 Posted 20 April, 2016 I'd go for a humiliating heavy 1st leg play off defeat away from home, meaning a pointless 2nd leg at their place. To do that they'd have to finish at least 5th though, where they currently are they're home in the first leg. I think I'd prefer them to lose that one heavily though.
Mr Biscuits Posted 20 April, 2016 Posted 20 April, 2016 Hartlepool have hit a decent run of form under Craig Hignett as well. How about this scenario: Wycombe and Wimbledon win the next two The Skates don't Hartlepool get a draw Last match of the season is against Northampton with the skates needing a win to get back in the playoffs.......
Dark Munster Posted 21 April, 2016 Posted 21 April, 2016 I'm confused. I thought they loved it in League 2 with the real clubs/fans. Why are they so desperate to get out of it for? It's promotion or bust for them now. Just like last year, and the year before, and...... Miss out for me. I would like them to end the season in disgrace, dropping into 8th on the final day on goal difference having shown a complete lack of fight and losing 1-0. Kingsbridge Saint Posted 21 April, 2016 Posted 21 April, 2016 (edited) If they get promoted at Wembley I would rather they had won the League. Anything but that. Edited 21 April, 2016 by Kingsbridge Saint

Pancake Posted 21 April, 2016 Posted 21 April, 2016 Scummer Jason McCarthy gets a hat trick!! Indeed. Is it too late to loan Gallagher, Hesketh, Reed and Sims to Wimbledon, Hartlepoole and Northampton Town?
rallyboy Posted 21 April, 2016 Posted 21 April, 2016 Yeah well I know that there was once a shoemaking strike in Daventry but all the tradesmen from Northampton went and beat up the women pickets, broke the strike - and they murdered kittens with their little shoe hammers. They are all scabs, and they were all members of the Cobblers Union of Northampton Traders Society and that's true.

Guy Posted 21 April, 2016 Posted 21 April, 2016 ....They can then write to the "shareholders" to "buy" more shares ready for a promotion push next season. Joking aside, the only way a 'fan owned team' can grow is for there to be a cash injection from such 'owners' each season rather than just an initial donation.

Wes Tender Posted 21 April, 2016 Posted 21 April, 2016 it was a cup final for York. Be fair people Of course it was. They have history of raising their game when they face the biggest clubs in World football. This was an even greater victory for them than the one in 1995 which they achieved against that season's double winners Manchester United http://www.harrogateminstermen.com/manchester-united-0-york-city-3.html Whereas York should then have had four goals but for a wrongly denied decision, the plucky Skates managed more yesterday than that illustrious Man Utd team by scoring one themselves. So losing against such famous giant-killers is not anything to be ashamed of. I note from the report of the Man Utd match that a certain tenacious Graeme Murty turned out for York that day.

Mr Biscuits Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 Actually you could argue that their favourite phrase has never been more appropriate...... 4-1 They are in the fourth tier we are in the first tier.
Waterside.saint Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 Today's the day they'll get really worried about their playoff place. Could be another Pompey lose at home while Saints win away. That would be a great birthday present
TopGun Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 That would be a great birthday present Happy birthday!!
Waterside.saint Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 Happy birthday!! Thank you Sadly the chairboys were overawed in their cup final and conceded by one goal. Happily, most of their competitors also won, so the bestestmost are back where they started
Pamplemousse Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 They're all but confirmed in the play-offs now.
melmacian_saint Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 They're all but confirmed in the play-offs now. What are Plymouth playing at?
Mr Biscuits Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 Automatic places gone now, no way they are going to make up 8 points with no one above them winning in the last three matches. They could STILL miss out on playoffs but that is much less likely. It's the hope that kills you
CB Fry Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 Automatic places gone now, no way they are going to make up 8 points with no one above them winning in the last three matches. l Their auto place went at least three weeks ago if not longer than that. They've been nowhere near.
OldNick Posted 23 April, 2016 Posted 23 April, 2016 Congratulations to Pompey as their manager said it was a massive achievement them making the play-offs. He also said that they have to live with the cards they have been dealt this season. Did he not build the squad then?
