Pompey Takeover Saga

seeing as Sondico are a Sports Direct brand are the shirts advertised with a high RRP, but on sale from day one? Fits quite nicely with the clubs philosophy of never paying the full amount if you can avoid it.

How does a 'socialist' football club such as Pompey square the moral circle of having a zero hours contract exploiting company as a kit supplier?

Their new manager has come up with a radical new plan for next season

And rather than the 37 players that were used by Pompey over the course of the last campaign, Cook believes he could operate with a base of just 18 senior professionals as he opts for quality over quantity.

Here we go again.

Having watched episode 2 of the bbc shark documentary, I think perhaps our friend penny chew is not a skate, but is in fact a mobular Ray. What we all thought was simply a garage door crashing into a pool, I can now confirm was actually a mating ritual. The displacement of half an Olympic sized swimming pool amount of water certainly attracted attention, but as I found out in the tv programme, that is of course the mobular Rays intention.

In non nature news, the skates may sign Barry Corr, out of contract from Southend, who must be one of the big name signings referred to by

@JakePompeySmith: The difference between Awfs and Cook is that Awfs would sign these unknown players whereas Cook is making these big name signings! #Pompey

That striker they just signed from Accrington scored 4 in 40 appearances last season, and hasn't scored in his last 27 appearances since last September.

To be fair I think he plays in midfield.

So many bitter Skates on Twitter, just had a good chuckle at some of the comments on there. They seem to think they got the better deal by winning the FA Cup and getting into Europe that way, despite the fact that they are now in L2 as a consequence of that. Brilliant :mcinnes:

If we finished 8th we wouldn't have qualified. So we qualified via our league position. As did Liverpool.

Love that they still go on and on and on about what they purchased without realising that's the reason they are where they are. Long may it continue.

Exhibit (A) http://www.fansonline.net/portsmouth/mb/view.php?id=593241

They really are properly hurting inside, you can see the bitterness eating them up.

Hahahaha bringing up attendances from the late 80s/early 90s and calling the Europa a European JPT.

I still remember the chants of Are you watching Southampton while they were 2 up vs Milan.

Probably worth mentioning to our fishy friends that they too actually qualified for Europe by default in 2010, but because their clubs finances were such a joke they weren't allowed to participate. Watch them try and come back from that.

But talking about buying cups, I confess to having had twinges of conscience these past few years about how we bought the JPT Cup. After all, we had the wealthiest owner in the the division by some distance and were able to buy in players like Lambert and Fonte. The poor unfortunate Skates haven't been able to win the JPT because they do not have the money to buy the calibre of players who helped us win it and I'm surprised that if they are reduced to debates on historical ground attendances, that they are not accusing us of buying that cup.;)

The deluded simpleton few who argue about history, make up stuff about Saints and think that we are jealous are the main reason this thread continues, they fuel it with their madness.

There are six simple words that they will refuse to hear, but this little sentence sum up where we all are in 2015.....

They are no longer our rivals.

Can anybody explain the origins of this portsmyth : "Stolen stadium - and no whip round for the builders to give them some proper money to pay for it."

They just can't hack it that we pretty well settled all of our debts, whereas charities and local small businesses all around the Portsmyth area suffered losses when they went down for the umpteenth time in their history.

I wonder whether they are giving all this lip to the other South Coast teams who are all above them and to Aldershot and Eastleigh who are far closer to them than we, Bournemouth and Brighton are.

Whilst we are talking attendances *yawn*, would I be right in thinking that we had more fans at Wembley for the JPT than they did for the FA Cup?

I thought our attendance for the JPT is the record for any club at a (new ) Wembley final.

I'm led to believe that we got the stadium for free by not paying our CVA. :o

The former SS tank commander refused to pay anyone off so the council had to give us the stadium, which we now fill with free tickets issued to asylum seekers and illegal immigrants, many of whom leave at half time or boo their own team.

These are all standard repeated 'facts' on Portsea.

You need to understand the illness.

Ha! I do love a good attendance debate with them. They literally have nothing for 70 years. Even in their most successful season in living memory they couldn't sell out their shed. Then who remembers FA Cup final tickets being on general sale near enough up to the day? Getting lower attendances than us when 2 divisions higher? Various campaigns to give tickets to school kids/Navy/anybody with a pulse...all for free, despite the club needing the money more than ever? And my favourite, the hilarious #PackThePark failure.

All this within the last few years. They have to go back to some random game against Oldham in the 80s to find a low attendance for us. And that says it all.

12-15k is great **for the 4th division** but if Us, Leeds, Forest, Derby or almost any other regular top 2 division club dropped that low, they'd beat that number regularly. Even Bradford weren't that far off it. The thing is, nobody else has failed like they have.

They're nothing special. They're the 'Wigan of the South' - just worse and without the rugby town excuse.

Re Attendances here are some interesting facts which may assist

1. We have never beaten the 3,000 ish who turned up at Fratton Park for a FA Cup game in the not too far distant past

2. The Wembley turn out of our fans at the JPT was in excess of the record crowd at Fratton Park just after WW11 when thousands of Royal Navy sailors were in port and with time on their hands.

A good many Saints fans used to go to Fratton Park at the time which proves the SCUM historical hatred story is nonsense.

3. Since 1921 when both clubs joined the Football league, Saints average home gate has been 17,557 compared to Pompey's 17,337

During this time Pompey had a higher capacity ground for all but 13 seasons

4. Since 1960, when both clubs crossed swords again and within the lifetime of almost all supporters of both clubs, Saints home gate has averaged 19,801 whilst Pompey's average is 14,152

5. Saints lowest home league average was 9,064 in 1932/3 compared to Pompey at 8,269 in 1994/5.

6. And has been pointed out on many occasions, when Pompey won the League in 1948/9 their home average was 37,082 in a ground with a capacity of 51,000

I got a bit confused on this one. I thought the game was the 4-1 thrashing but lower league Leyton Orient (when Pompey were in the top flight under Graham Rix)

However the Cup competition was the league Cup in 2000 when a miserly 2,731 turned up to see the Blackburn tie.

Other low gates included 2,494 for a ZD Cup game in 1989 and 4,688 for a league game v Sunderland in 1972

GB is correct, the attendance debate ended years ago - they lost, on every count.

I'd even question the sanity of any pompey fan who wanted to continue the argument.

Twas a landslide, and as our all time average continues to climb with every season, the gap gently widens.

I was at that Leyton Orient game stood with the away fans. There was definitely more than 3000 there, although through the tears of laughter I do remember plenty of spare seats knocking about.

I went in the away end a few times during late 90's. Saw them lose to a last minute goal against Tranmere (inevitably from a Dave Challinor long throw) after the away side had been battered for most of the game. I was also spotted on tv by a Pompey fan from work celebrating a last minute Bristol Rovers winner behind the goal in a 3-2 classic.

My favourite game was an end of season 4-2 loss to Palace when both teams were struggling at the bottom of the Championship. Pompey fans were throwing season tickets on the pitch, and one chap set fire to his shirt. My Palace mate got thrown out twice (once for running on the pitch, once for verbally abusing a fat female steward) and a fellow Saints fan I was with cut himself celebrating and wrote SFC on the white wall at the front of the Milton End in blood.

I've seen some funny games there, sadly none of them involving Saints who I've seen gain a miserable 1 point from 9. (1-4, 0-1, 1-1)

We should all blame you for the recent run of miserable results at Fratton Park

Saints League/Cup record at Fratton is P 16 W 7 D 5 L 4 F 24 A 20

in comparison the results at home are P 16 W 5 D 5 L 4 F 32 A 22

I do feel partly responsible. If we draw them in the cup at Fratton next year I'll take one for the team and give the game a swerve.

You can still be witheringly patronising though: "Yes dear, it's a very good attendance for the 4th division, much better than when you were there last time.."
