Golden Balls Posted 27 October, 2014 Share Posted 27 October, 2014 I may have seen you - spent the day down there with friends and his extended family - all die hard pompey fans. Funnily enough every time I swung the conversation around to football the subject changed pretty sharpish - kept me amused all day. I had a meeting in London with a customer a couple of weeks ago. He asked where I was based and I said Southampton. He said "you're not a scummer are you?" To which I said I am. Every time I mentioned anything football related he'd do all he could to deflect it back to any other subject possible. Amazing. When I worked with them lot 6-7 years ago, they never shut up about how brilliant they are, how they will continue to win trophies and how we'll be lucky to become an established Championship side. I knew our time would come. I knew they'd get their comeuppance and I will enjoy every second of it. They rubbed it in too much for too long. Thats why this thread is brilliant. Joey-deacons-left-nut Posted 27 October, 2014 Share Posted 27 October, 2014 Didn't see as many Saints shirts as normal, shame! Few Saints foundation tops though. Noticed the interviewer even moved Iwan Thomas on from the subject of football! Ha. Weirdly I also didn't spot as many Pompey tops either... a lot of Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Man U though..... Separate issue that makes me laugh at the moment is am priviledged to watch a few academy games - realy funny to see some parents in Pompey tops picking up their kids from the academy wearing full Saints kit sort of irony there somewhere! That Riddle bloke is obviously an architect working on the Tescos project, it's funny watching him desperately try and sell the idea of being penned in forever by a massive Tescos. Riddle is actually some sort of elected member of the trust/PDT. Its really funny watching him battling his way through that thread, shattering his own and the trusts credibility. His role in the Tesco development? He is assisting in landlocking his club and banishing fatpipes out of site forever... free of charge!

Pamplemousse Posted 27 October, 2014 Share Posted 27 October, 2014 POL still showing heavy signs of delusion Pompey reach the 3rd round and draw the scummers away who inflict the biggest beating in the rivalry. That's my biggest fear. My biggest fear also - big defeat and possible crowd trouble resulting in various fines and sanctions - I don't want to be playing scum until we are both in Championship in three seasons time..... mine to. Don't want to play them again until we have been bought out by billionaires who spend obscene amounts on players If I was a TV exec, that would be the first game to go for televising - 2 clubs rising from the ashes, potential upset on the cards for a 'big' club against non league opposition (just to show how the mighty have fallen), local derby and decent atmosphere. Then chuck in the mix how football ownership is a hot topic of conversation at the moment (not just Leeds - Birmingham, Watford, Cardiff can be thrown in the mix there too), and Pompey's model of ownership would be a good contrast. rallyboy Posted 28 October, 2014 Share Posted 28 October, 2014 That's what happens when these little clubs give power to locals who have gathered most of their corporate expertise through selling the contents of their loft on an overloaded decorating table in a breezy field on a Sunday morning. I don't see a lot of quality on that board, enthusiasm yes, but you need business acumen to run a business, and you need it in every dept. Let's not forget the former hero and finance expert Lampitt. He was the man with the plan, but he just followed the mistakes of the past and shoved them off on another suicide mission. Despite the spin to the contrary, I'm not sure that much has changed since those hilarious days. And like Lord T, I'm curious to know why the PFA still hold charges if the nasty old players really have been paid. No doubt this will be addressed shortly by the local media, along with the Tesco situation and Connolly's silence.

Gemmel Posted 28 October, 2014 Share Posted 28 October, 2014 http://fansonline.net/portsmouth/mb/view.php?id=560147 Can't see the bigger Tesco issues having any impact on this project at all. This site is strategic for many supermarkets in Portsmouth as there is a lack of a 21st century type store within the city. Tesco in particular have been working on a site in central Portsmouth for a good decade. They now have one with planning permission (PEL will build and own the site, Tesco will rent it - they rent virtually all their stores as a matter of company policy going back years). Sainsburys were also active in this part of Portsmouth. There's a lot of dwellings not currently served by a big type supermarket. As stated above, full planning approval was only granted last week. It took over a year to gain, so hardly the 'rushed through' that was suggested above. I'd expect to see work on site at the end of the year/ early next year http://fansonline.net/portsmouth/mb/view.php?id=563383 As someone who has been involved in parts of the Tesco deal, I was always under the impression the target was 'November' as opposed to the more specific '1st November.' The whole deal (land swaps/ legals etc) between all parties is days away from being signed off (inc Tesco's). I understand we should see visible signs of site works being set up on the land behind the North Stand before the end of November What's a little inconsistency between architects? The good thing though the latest news is much more positive.

rallyboy Posted 29 October, 2014 Share Posted 29 October, 2014 In all fairness they tick most of those boxes already so I think I'd be generous enough to give them a full house and the financial benefits for a 10-0 home defeat. Sadly, if it did happen we'd put out a youth team so it would be more like 5-0.

Bumper pay-days have kept them alive for this long, i can live quite happily if we never have to play them again, but i suppose im not a bragger who needs to be able to lord it over them. And then thanks to agent Artur, next season the fishy ones will look upward in apoplexy when El South Coast Classico gets played in the EPL between us and the Play off winning Bompey boys while they look forward to a bumper local derby with Eastleigh. hutch Posted 29 October, 2014 Share Posted 29 October, 2014 They are always "close", always "next week" "next month" or "next year". Never "now". Comical. No no. Everything is absolutely crystal clear, as confirmed formally by Mr. Riddle, who is a proper architect AND a proper director. So if anybody should know, he's the man: The ongoing discussions were to do with the legal tie ups, land swaps etc to get to the planning approval - all must have been completed to get the sign off on Friday. The legal agreement between PEL and PFC has been finalised and is currently being given a final check through. Once everyone is happy, the land swap will occur and the club will get the cash sum The whole deal (land swaps/ legals etc) between all parties is days away from being signed off (inc Tesco's).
