Clapham Saint Posted 31 January, 2010 Share Posted 31 January, 2010 I've been away since saturday morning and don't have time to trawl through the seemingly hundreds of new posts since I was last online. Weston Saint Posted 31 January, 2010 Share Posted 31 January, 2010 Just because a Judge gives leave to appeal does not suggest it will succeed. Otherwise why would he make a ruling against Pompey in the first place? It could be that he is aware of the consequences and the importance of his decision and left it open to ratification by a higher court. I was once refused leave to appeal a civil case. My Barristers thought I had a good case in that we felt the Judge had misinterpreted the evidence. A very senior appeal judge considered our application and decided we had a good chance of winning the appeal and granted leave. We went to the appeal court and within 5 minutes we knew it would not be overturned. It is very difficult winning an appeal and I am not at all suprised Pompey diod not appeal. I did not expect them to.

Eastcowzer Posted 1 February, 2010 Share Posted 1 February, 2010 5pm Monday 1st February is what is always quoted. It's because of the Bank Holiday on the 1st January, I suppose. As the 1st January is a Bank Holiday every year, that is certainly not the reason for the deadline extension. Simply, it is because the 31st is on a Sunday, and we can't have all those hard working 'nerds' in the FA headquarters having their week-end spoilt by such trivial things as football transfer paperwork. The club may be poor in cash but it has money and assets and there are no bank loans. The debt lies with football creditors, other clubs, tax, Revenue and Customs and share holders. But the current regime is willing to work with new investors and there are interested parties, aside from the fans. One issue that many European business people can never get their heads around when they do business with this part of the world is the local concept of "time". Meetings never happen "on time", in fact appointments are incredibly loosely adhered to, often, you just walk in to the office. In simplistic terms, in "The West", you are "culturally programmed" born, go to school, get a job, get married, have 2.4 kids, get a mortgage, get a pension, retire, die. It is as if you have a ticking clock in your head, so the magic words such as "Time Management" and "Planning" come into play. Down here that clock doesn't exist in the same way. Life is "more" meandering, based upon the will of "external factors". Deadlines are more a starting point for negotiations, things NEVER happen on time. (A great example is the number of people down here who book a flight, check in and then simply decide not to get onboard or happily stay talking on the phone in the departure lounge and simply cannot comprehend why the plane isn't still there waiting for them) One of the possible reasons for this whole meltdown is that the Arab owners actually really believe that everything will be alright. They haven't had extensive dealings in the UK, they quite simply may not have been able to grasp the fact that the clock TICKS. It isn't foolishness, it simply never occurs to them that HMRC actually meant the debt had to be paid on a certain day. (Plenty of examples of never getting paid in this part of the world!) Business based Cultural misunderstanding with Brits, Arabs, partial Russians & Israelis all in the mix may be as much to blame for the past months of mayhem as all of the dealings before hand. They certainly would not be the first European based business to totally screw things up by "ASSUMING" just because English language is spoken they are talking about the same things

pedg Posted 1 February, 2010 Share Posted 1 February, 2010 ITs all that nasty premier leagues fault you know! http://www.fansonline.net/portsmouth/article.php?id=1301 SOS POMPEY! Portsmouth Fans United For Their Club PRESS RELEASE POMPEY FANS TO TAKE THEIR PROTEST TO THE PREMIER LEAGUE Pompey appear to have their best players being sold by a convicted fraudster. The Chief Executive Officer, Executive Director and Manager have disavowed any involvement in these transfer deals. This means there is a very real possibility the club is being effectively run by three times convicted fraudster Danny Azougy acting as a Shadow Director, which is against Premier League rules. Why have the Premier League refused to act? Why are they allowing their rulebook to be flouted? SOS Pompey encourages all fans travelling to Fulham on Wednesday 3rd February to congregate outside: FA Premier League headquarters at 30 Gloucester Place, London, W1U 8PL at 5.00pm SOS Pompey asks all supporters to demonstrate peacefully and refrain from any racist chanting.
