Pompey Takeover Saga

I love the way the Tesco entrance faces away with shame from PFC. bobp6ecccaapcwh-large.jpg

Not sure where the room for expansion is there? Tescos will always need space for their lorries at the back, the other two sides penned in by housing. The only scope is to eat into their already small car park and expand the stand on the left - that will have to be some f*ck-off great big stand to get anywhere St Marys capacity as they claim.

They would be better off rejecting the Tescos deal, building the club up organically then, when they are at a decent level, hope someone rich is dumb enough to buy the club and land to develop it properly in a decade or two's time.

This deal will just see them landlocked. An annoying eyesore eating up space in the corner of a successful superstore's carpark. I expect in an architects drawer somewhere there is a phase 2 plan which consists of a Tescos twice the size, a decent sized car park and no rotting shed top right.

The more you look, the more accurate that picture seems to be. The floodlight pylon to the right of the Fratton End doesn't actually have any floodlights on it. Presumably the HNWs offered to pay for that to be fixed but the PDT didn't want to lose their majority...

All this is missing now is the old dear on the mobility scooter.

That vision of the future does look like Tesco has got a small football ground hidden away in it's backyard behind the bins.

Looking at that they seem to have cleared up a lot of dog mess and executed a woman on a mobility scooter too.

But how funny would it have been if they had included her in the illustration! A real missed opportunity.

At least this project doesn't entail compulsory purchase of a billion quidsworth of seafront property, buying a section of dockyard, moving the sea, employing Diego Maradona, building a new motorway, and Liam Lawrence having to organise ticketing for the world cup finals - so it is progress.

It's a good job Pompey were being run by upstanding people at the time these "largest ever" Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal fines relate to (Fuglers, not to be forgotten as an important member of the supporting cast) otherwise there could be some sort of suggestion that PFC were trying to engage in dubious behaviour and are a bunch of cheating, thieving, ****s.

Shows that the skates have not been punished severly enough. Exactly the sort of reason why I want them to go bust rather than linger around the lower leagues.

not sure Tesco will be happy with all their own car parking spaces being taken up every other Saturday by non-shoppers

There'll be plenty of clampers on duty on match days but it won't make any difference. Every Skate who gets done will only pay 1% of 4% the release fee.

I think we should write in in support of Tesco's development. If I had an extra webbed digit or two I would be extremely concerned about all this - there is zero chance of expansion at that site now, and property developers get involved in football clubs for one reason - ask Brighton.

Fair enough, though I still think 300 is a widely inflated figure, a portsmyth some would say.

people from off the island aren't going to drive to Fratton to buy their food, so minimal additional food sales will take place in Pompey. That means effectively there are hardly any additional jobs created, Tesco merely force other shops in the region to reduce staff and or hours of their staff.

...Tesco merely force other shops in the region to reduce staff and or hours of their staff.

Or shut down for good..

Over 80% of independent shops on our high streets have closed*. Our local butchers, fishmongers, greengrocers and bakeries are shutting down. Meanwhile, hundreds of new supermarkets are opening, and supermarkets like Tesco and Sainsbury’s are increasing the number of local convenience stores they own.

There is a devastating lack of choice for local people buying groceries because of the rise of the supermarkets: nowadays, supermarkets control a whopping 97% of the grocery market.

Half of the turnover of an independent local retailer goes back into the local community, while just 5% of the turnover of a supermarket does. They take money out of communities and put into the hands of profit-hungry supermarket bosses.

Every time a new supermarket opens, 276 jobs are lost locally. Between 2008 and 2010, the big supermarkets Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury’s, pledged to create 67,000 new jobs. They fell far short of this target, creating just 28, 217 jobs.

In 2011, supermarket giants expanded their floorspace by 2,750,000 square feet. You might expect this to lead to more jobs. The opposite happened: the total number of people employed by these companies fell by over 400.

It's hardly surprising the local 'community' is so anti this proposed move..

This is the guy that has worked on all the plans....I think he is a director; So it looks like a car park and whatever is left behind the Milton road (I have no idea)

From the club's point of view, it will gain ownership of land to the rear of the Fratton End and behind the North Stand. An access route to the south of the Tesco store (from Sellars ransom strip gates to the alley to Frogmore Rd) will also be in the club's ownership.

The land behind the North stand will be opened up to Milton Lane (which will be relocated to the north) and resurfaced and securely fenced as a car park for approx 250 cars.

This will tidy up the whole area, give the club it's own car park (it currently rents the space behind the FE) and of course gives scope for the club to build outwards from its current ownership footprint.

The sum of money the club will receive can be spent by the club as it wishes, providing it's on the stadium infrastructure. The £450k the Presidents recently invested, means vital ongoing works which would have originally come out of the Tesco 'pot' are now covered, so Tesco money can go fully towards more 'glamorous' longer term rebuilding works such as rebuilding or extending stands

The longer term aspiration of the club is to have a capacity of at least 30,000 to make it a viable Prem outfit.

Of course where we find ourselves at the moment means we have a capacity that suits our needs so it's not an overly pressing matter, but this Tesco deal is being done now and is not driven by PFC, the club is simply a neighbour to which planning policy says it should benefit.

Therefore it brings the issue into the spotlight, but the key aim at this stage is to ensure there's enough room left by this development to expand into in the future and there's the bonus getting land to do that and money to go towards rebuilding.

Exactly what the club spends that on is down to the club within reason of it being on the stadium (i.e. not on players etc).

One question - where is the car-park for Tesco's? Normally these places have massive car-parks.

Underneath, it's on legs...

You can see it now all the Skates will be popping in Tesco's to pick up a Mars bar before the game to try and get free parking close to the ground. Who in their right mind thinks civilised people are going to go shopping when a rampaging group of six digit interbreeds are about.

Oh dear, they just keep peddling these Portsmyths.

Bottom of League 1 and we were still getting bigger crowds than Premier League portsmouth, when we were both in the Championship we were getting bigger crowds than portsmouth, when they had the bigger ground and we were in the old Dell we still had bigger crowds than portsmouth. We will always get bigger crowds than portsmouth.

Interesting maths there....

Saturday's attendance was 28,000 (so says the beeb), about 87% full. It was also the lowest of the season.

Ah but we only had 23% passion where as they had 467% passion and better atmosphere than all the rest of world sport put together x60.

I used to have a passing dislike for them but this constant unabashed mastabatory obsession with passion and loyalty is as equally nauseating as it is misplaced.

Respect where you are, respect the reason why you are there, respect the teams you play against and the fans that follow them and then and only then will you earn some respect in return.

Until then you can all rot in hell

Meanwhile....

Ah, so that's where the passion is coming from!

And 4 tickets, can't they give away any more than that? (Not surprised, after Neil Allen's 6 year old admitted preferring banana milk and a mutilated hamburger to watching pompey, maybe they're struggling to give away that many!).

Pathetic - assuming that's from the News? Stoke only brought 900 and we're still averaging near on 30k which is good in this economic climate and in the national top 10. When's the last time the skates got 28,000 for a game? Torquay's game is on tonight v Northampton, hoping for a big Gulls win to get them closer to overhauling the Skates and sending them into non league.

My views in a nutshell. They will not start to make their way back until they respect the league that they are in.The fans will not start to appreciate their football until they accept the league they are in.

When they do start to respect their league, when they do start to enjoy their football, they will be able to stop their masturbating over their "passion" and they will start to enjoy their football. Their hero/ villain swingometer will not move so violently either as they realise that it is possible for them to get beaten by better teams than them.

Until that happens though I am certainly enjoying watching their plight. Pompey - the gift that keeps on giving!!

Stoke also left circa 2,200 empty seats in the away end. Had Stoke filled the away end the attendances would have been over 30k and Pompey fans wouldn't have even noticed.

The article also overlooks Saints fans had to pay between £32 and £44 for a tickets vs Stoke City, compare that to Fratton Park this season. Is 27k home fans for a game vs Stoke at those prices really something to be mocked? Especially when Pompey couldn't sellout a 21k stadium in the two Premier League games they had at Fratton Park vs. Stoke.

Pompey attendances vs Stoke City at Fratton Park in the Premier League...

2009/10 = 17,208 which would equal 53% of the capacity of St Mary's

2008/09 = 19,248 which would equal 59% of the capacity of St Mary's

Pompey couldn't even sellout a 21,000 seater stadium vs Stoke City, let alone trying to sellout a 32,000 seater stadium. It really is tinpot Skate journalism at its best (worst).

Excellent work MLG!

Interesting Portsea inbred logic there. Their capacity is 21,100 so on that basis they have only averaged 71%. I call that far more than a fifth empty  anyway, 28,000 is a hell of a lot more than 15,000.

in the bottom picture you have a billionairess owner of a premier league football club, whilst in the top picture we have a bunch of mugs that paid £1000 to become "shareholders" when all they've really done is wasted their cash to pay towards all those creditors waiting for what they're owed!
