Colinjb Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 If they do somehow overcome Bournemouth, when is the earliest we could play them?
trousers Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 If they do somehow overcome Bournemouth, when is the earliest we could play them? Second round. The draw is on Thursday I think. (Is that what you meant?)
Colinjb Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 Second round. The draw is on Thursday I think. (Is that what you meant?) Yep. It really would be good to play them now.
trousers Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 Yep. It really would be good to play them now. We'd play our U21 side, wouldn't we...?
Colinjb Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 We'd play our U21 side, wouldn't we...? There may be a few fringe players in there but I would be sure of some key names appearing. The atmosphere alone would call for some more experienced heads.
sticksaint Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 Any streams for tonight? I fancy a laugh. Game is on Saintsplayer if you have it?
Crazy Diamond Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 Bompey fans chant "We forgot that you were here" to Skates fans. #standard
suewhistle Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 We'd play our U21 side, wouldn't we...? U18s, I'd have thought, with Wanyama and Jimmy Case on as enforcers just to make sure their bruisers don't do any damage..
Cascadia Saint Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 (edited) 0-0 40minutes Come on Bournemouth, wtf. Edited 6 August, 2013 by Cascadia Saint ****e
Cascadia Saint Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 Surman shot tipped over, sounds like all Bournemouth at the end of the half.
St Lej Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 Mark Kelly on Solent seriously must be the worst co commentator ever! For the last 2 years he's started every sentence of his "analysis" with the words "yeah absolutely"....and I literally mean EVERY single time he speaks he has to say that. It is almost as of he's doing it for a bet now, surely someone would say something to him about this problem he's got.
sticksaint Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 Steve Claridge on Solent "Any player will go to pompey in that league rather than any other team because of the crowds". Only if he doesn`t want to get PAID , Steve!!!

" Kelly on BBC Solent " Yeah absolutely. blah ,blah ,Yeah absolutely, blah ,blah,Yeah absolutely. "
trousers Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 Steve Claridge on Solent "Any player will go to pompey in that league rather than any other team because of the crowds". Is that the same branch of science that explains why flies are attracted to sh1te? Bournemouth score...
Cascadia Saint Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 4-1 for Pompey on the bookings though... I'd gladly see them win on red cards, too.
Jonnyboy Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 Tee hee. Did they win any of their preseason matches btw?
trousers Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 Tee hee. Did they win any of their preseason matches btw? Not sure. Best to check the BBC Solent travel archives to see if any roads were closed for the ensuing open top bus parade(s)...
hutch Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 Tee hee. Did they win any of their preseason matches btw? Yep. They beat Havant & Waterlooville, and Bognor Regis.
sticksaint Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 I`ve missed a bit of the commentary-have the skates had a shot on target yet?

trousers Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 Talksport: "ex-Southampton man Andrew Surman looking so determined to get on the scoresheet this evening"
Pugwash Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 4-1 for Pompey on the bookings though... One more and they'll be whingeing to the FL about how unfair the fine is...
Cascadia Saint Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 Talksport: "ex-Southampton man Andrew Surman looking so determined to get on the scoresheet this evening" Come on drew, you can do it.
trousers Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 Come on drew, you can do it. Just been subbed Meanwhile, Pompey's next opponents (Mr Beattie's Accrington) take the lead away at Middlesborough.
Cascadia Saint Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 Talksport: "ex-Southampton man Andrew Surman looking so determined to get on the scoresheet this evening" Or not.
Trader Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 As we're all going to be Accrington fans on Saturday I'm happy to report that they're winning 2-1 at Middlesbrough with 5 minutes left. Maybe Beatts boys are better than we thought!
Danbert Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 Oh well - at least now they'll be able to concentrate on the league eh...
Pedro Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 Oh well - at least now they'll be able to concentrate on the league eh... Whittingham said on the radio before the game that promotion was the priority.
mcjwills Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 PUP LOST 1-0 They are concentrating on the league we all know that.

Danbert Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 Whittingham said on the radio before the game that promotion was the priority. I expect they lost on purpose. Probably all part of some not at all deluded plan.
ottery st mary Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 They are concentrating on the league we all know that. Wessex League or Hampshire League?
Cascadia Saint Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 Wessex League or Hampshire League? Fantasy league. They need to fill the coffers somehow...
Ohio Saint Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 Why didn't they concentrate on the league against Oxford?
Cascadia Saint Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 why didn't they concentrate on the league against oxford? adhd?
ottery st mary Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 (edited) Why didn't they concentrate on the league against Oxford? They were concentrating on the cup then....keep up;) Edited 6 August, 2013 by ottery st mary spellin innit
Minty Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 Just got on a train at Totton to get to town and its full of Skates... Quite hard to suppress my inner glee at their current circumstances. Just broke into a round of 'You dirty scammers, we're coming for you.' Stay classy...
Minty Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 Got off at Central and some of em were desperately try to pick a fight with various innocent late night passengers who all had the same look of 'You f*cking mongtards' on their face.
Pamplemousse Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 Here's what the skates think over on POL Let's ship out Harris and get in a LB on loan. If we're only using 35% of our turnover on wages there's enough left to get another LB in. We need cover anyway and competition is never a bad thing But who is pushing butler, who is there for when he isnt kn form lkke now? This is our priority. Has to be a left back out there? Come on whitts we need a second left back Afraid I think that's it for Butler (poor lad) - at best he needs to go out on loan. Has been targeted (rightly) by the opposition manager as the weak today, and that's only going to continue. No playing his way out of this. Not sure he's good enough tbh. Accrington beating Middlesbrough. That'll make them sloppy come Saturday. Cup runs = bad league form. FACT. One 'red and 'Four' yellows in just two games, me thinks Guy may need to add a few more players to his squad. So there we go... writing off the young players already, demanding new signings. They still don't get it Good things about this evening - a solid centre half and a goalkeeper who realises that the use of hands is legal for a keeper. Bad things - drums and stupid and embarrassing chants.
The9 Posted 6 August, 2013 Posted 6 August, 2013 I like the fact that they think Accrington winning will make them complacent, when BOTH sides got dicked 4-1 last Saturday. Oh that Skate logic...
Ric Posted 7 August, 2013 Posted 7 August, 2013 I like the fact that they think Accrington winning will make them complacent, when BOTH sides got dicked 4-1 last Saturday. Oh that Skate logic... Yeah, but if your ship is sinking you'll grab hold of any bit of floating wood, however flimsy. What interests me is how they'll react if they lose to Accrington...

Just broke into a round of 'You dirty scammers, we're coming for you.' Stay classy... Do they not understand that this chant only works if you are actually catching up on the team you're chanting about?
The9 Posted 7 August, 2013 Posted 7 August, 2013 Do they not understand that this chant only works if you are actually catching up on the team you're chanting about? I think in this case they were referring to the train approaching Southampton. The fact all of them chose to stay on it and they were then haring away from Southampton having done nothing whatsoever was probably the fault of the FA, or the Fit and Proper Person Test, or HMRC, or Chainrai, or the Net High Worth Owners (they're next) or Terry Venables, or Tal Ben Haim or Tesco, or Dave Kitson or possibly that woman in the mobility scooter, or those Scammah Kants, but it definitely wasn't anything that they "done".
The9 Posted 7 August, 2013 Posted 7 August, 2013 Yeah, but if your ship is sinking you'll grab hold of any bit of floating wood, however flimsy. What interests me is how they'll react if they lose to Accrington... I'd say that was probably "when", not "if", based on the matches I've seen so far. Accrington were fairly solid on Saturday and certainly didn't have any centre-backs doing that "run around the stick 10 times then try and head the ball" game in the penalty area, they just got outplayed by a team very high on confidence that has had year on year of success recently and is used to winning - and if there's one thing Portsmouth FC is not at the moment, it's that. If Newport had any sense they'd be trying to shift the Skate match (Dec 14th) forward a few months, because they usually hit a run of form just before losing all of their players in every transfer window, though I guess someone has to want them for that to happen...
