Pompey Takeover Saga

A few things from this picture....

The egotistical narcissist loon obviously "accidentally" kept the crappy trophies in shot. Not on purpose at all. Also, leaving NewsCentre? Job for the boy maybe?

One thing I can confidently say (having read more than enough of his copy), is after 10 years working for national press (2 years at the Echo before that) he will be allowed no where near a national. Seriously he's a shocking scribe that I'm embarrassed to be in the same game as. The way he led the witch hunt against previous "heros" was especially shameless and unprofessional in my opinion.

Ooof.

More cracking news from Fratton Park!!!

Who the hell do we pick for a starting XI!?! Nice having depth to choose from. This is so much more pleasant that Appletons quad he built from scratch, as GW's looks so much more balanced.

Another player who has snubbed bigger wages to come to Fratton

Yeah, as he hobbled out of the hospital a host of big clubs were queued up trying to sign him, but there was only one place he wanted to go - he shrugged off the massive offers from Burton and Gillingham and joined the best club side in world football, probably because of the mighty blue army that never gave up...apart from when they booed, or just didn't go to games.

Previously they just blatantly lied about outbidding other sides, now they are fibbing about other sides outbidding them.

Deluded.

I just wish they would stop making stuff up, is that too much to ask?

Don't forget that Gillingham's high quality recruitment policy has led them to make Tommy Forecast a contract offer, so he'd be in some excellent company.

With Ricky Holmes now signed - is this shaping up to be the best looking squad we've had in years?! Roll on 3rd Aug! #Pompey

However, there is one sensible comment

I really do hope #Pompey do not sign any more players, have we not learnt from the past yet?!

it does make me laugh that some of you cannot understand the concept that it doesn't matter who we play, the fact we are watching our football team no matter who against is what it's all about. Meeting your mates, having a laugh, enjoying football no matter what. And yes I have done Grimsby away on a Tuesday nght and seen us get beat, Sheff Wed away on a wednesday etc. Back in the 90's we always knew we would lose but who cares its what football and laughs with your mates is all about, the banter, what went wrong, overdoing it midweek. Not all pompey fans are morons, every team has them, just look at your main board, some of your fans are just as bad half the time.

This. I love it how now they are well below us it doesn't matter anymore, yet when they were above us it really mattered that they were playing United whilst we were playing Rochdale. Sha la la la la la...

The Premier League and Europe were also a great thing to be in, when they were there. Not any more though. Oh no. Boring. Really boring, and only for plastic fans. Division 4 is only place to be for real fans.

They would no doubt trade their FA Cup win for the atmosphere away at Fleetwood on a tuesday night.

Mero is a decent skate and actually we probably do get it..... In terms of them just having a team to watch, but the above comments are valid

1) It's banter

2) paintpot trophy....and how they laughed

3) It certainly did matter to them when they were in the prem

Sheffield Wednesday away is a shocking example of a "typical" lower league away game for what it's worth.

lol - all gathering pace now and people actually being named, we were expecting something this week and looks like we might get it. Somewhat jealous Saints fans on here I reckon, poor old pathetic tinpot smalltime pompey more of an attractive investment than the mighty saints lol - small team in hampshire you lot - FACT ! I know your all clinging to the hope of administration for us and a fire sale in January, shame your not going to get it isn't it. And of course we'll get to see you languish in League 1 next season whilst we have another top 10 finish.

A story about a riot in China over exams.

"What has this to do with our friends down the road?" I hear you ask.

It was the following passage that made the connection in my mind.

Outside, an angry mob of more than 2,000 people had gathered to vent its rage, smashing cars and chanting: "We want fairness. There is no fairness if you do not let us cheat."

That's not really the point is it, Jamie? You can ask them that question if they're still scratching around in League 2 in 5 years time.

For now I can sort of understand their excitement. But I genuinely don't think it will last long.

I can see Mero's point. Did anybody on here really not have a great time during out two seasons down in League 1?
It was great for a year, the second year was great as we got out of it. Doing more than 2 years in the lower leagues would have been a chore, the relief to get out of it when we did was enormous. The Championship, I'm still of the opinion that that was my favourite year as a Saints fan, although common logic will dictate that you strive to be in the highest division you can. That lot should have a laugh for a year or two down there, and I'm sure they will. But if they languish in League 2 for any time (or even League 1 for that matter) the novelty will wear off pretty quickly.

Lord Trousers -I raise my hat to your memory and search skills!:toppa:

I don't agree with Gemmell that Mero is a decent skate (contradiction of terms?)...he's just a below-average intelligence interloper on a rival team board...does he get it? Nope, does he fluck...the comparative posts provided by Trousers show exactly why any skate (I have one exception) who posts on here should have derision, scorn, facts (now there's a concept!) poured upon them.

Sure I know the relief of having a club to support...we looked over that precipice and I hated it and dreaded the thought but they've now found their level and they should accept that they are incredibly fortunate to be there for us to sh*t from a great height on to. They do not deserve to have survived and many football and non-football people have suffered so that it can be so. My message...if you can't take what's due - fluck off from our board!

The exception - Mack, of course...he gets it and with originality and humour :-)

Let's face it, we only look back on League One so fondly as we were only there for 2 years, both years were succesful, had we been struggling down there still we wouldn't have loved it so much.

It was only fun when we were winning, the -10 year had the JPT to distract us and many no pressure games at the end of the season after the playoffs went out of reach which we on the whole won anyway. The start of the promotion from league 1 year was a joke.

It's was great as we won.

I see others have already picked up on this point, and it'll be interesting to see what will happen if they don't. I still have the programme from the boxing day match against Exeter: doubt if they'll be getting 30k crowds anytime soon..

I'm still tempted to dip in to the world of betting as 66-1 for relegation looks tempting.

Well if this quote posted earlier is anything to go by don't waste your money, bet on promotion instead:

Who the hell do we pick for a starting XI!?! Nice having depth to choose from. This is so much more pleasant that Appletons quad he built from scratch, as GW's looks so much more balanced."

They know more about this down the road than I do but the new recruits certainly have the locals excitied and they are expecting an exceptional season - and you are thinking about betting on relegation? OK, so none of the guys they have (outside their ex-Saint of course) has played much league football but they form a well balanced team packed with potential. Choosing a starting eleven is going to be difficult apparently. I have to agree that when suspensions and injuries kick in later in the season choosing a starting eleven may well indeed prove difficult.

Anything less than the play-offs would be a massive failure for them. Their chief-exec keeps banging on about his limited budget, but its still well up in the top 5 of 6 of the division. even if they'd have been given -10 they'd have had a decent chance of promotion. And div 3 has three automatic promotion spots, top 7 gets you into the play-offs. To miss out on that would be an epic f*ck up. I don't think they'll win the division but pretty sure they'll get one of the automatic spots, their budget alone dictates that they'll do ok.

if anybody thinks that L1 (or L2) is a huge bundle of fun when the team is losing, even though the club has recently been rescued from oblivion, they should ask a Saints fan how they felt watching the home defeat to Rochdale.

And that was in a nice stadium.

We had a great time because most of the time they were new grounds and we were winning most of the time. The two and a half seasons in the bottom half of the Championship were crap, because we were losing all the time and had already been everywhere.

Using that theory, they'll probably enjoy the new grounds, but it'll get boring quickly if they don't start winning games.

I was there and I had a great time - honest. I disliked the result but as it was my first game that I had

be able to attend at SMS I really enjoyed the whole experience. To show how silly/stupid I am I will also

add that I was probably just as excited, if not more so, than the young Saints fans who went.

I also enjoyed the stadium tour a few days before

‘Our players are not multi-millionaire players this season. It is sensible.

‘There have been players who didn’t even read the contract. We made them an offer and it was “yes, where do I sign?”.

‘A couple of them fell out with their agents because their agent said they could get them more elsewhere.

‘They fell out with their agents over their desire to play for this football club  – and that is refreshing.’

Catlin has previously revealed Pompey’s playing budget is in the mid-table range in League Two.

But he admits there is the chance that could rise in future seasons.

He added: ‘The budget is not fixed in stone.

‘We want to get out of this league at some point.

‘It is no good having a mid-table budget in League Two year after year.

‘What we want to do is attract the best players possible to Fratton Park and sometimes that costs.

Didn't take Catlin long to catch the Pompey delusion bug...
