Pompey Takeover Saga

Pompey are heavy favourites to win League 2. Thoughts?

http://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/league-2/winner

For a club with a bright new future and exciting new fan owners these odds seem about right. Playing in front of a packed"Fortress Fratton" each week they should be odds on to go back up.

For a club that is limited to freebies and players rejected by other clubs it may not be so easy. A half full Fatpipes Fratton will not be that intimidating for the opposition in their season's "Cup Final." It just needs Champagne Iain to have a bottle too many and start to p*** off other "share" holders and the whole edifice could start to fall down.

It may be worth waiting for the relegation odds to appear and have a cheeky flutter on them being non league by 2014.

And in cultural news, the one billion pound Harbourdome project finally has a rival in the Fantasy Island Planning Awards.

Some visionary businessman has come up with a plan for the crumbling South Parade Pier - and I think he has The Lampitt Storrie Consultancy working on the figures!

It seems that the plan is to push the crumbling wreck over before it falls into the sea, ignore any listed buildings status, and replace it with an international arts and culture centre to rival Tate Modern and MOMA.

Simple as that.

Project costs have been done using portsmaths and pinned down to a worryingly unrealistic and vague £20M-£30M.

But it's okay, it will be funded by private investors while the Guggenheim Foundation will be invited to chuck a few million in, AND to fill the new landmark with their art collection.

So much easier than the museum doing their own thing, just give their money and art to someone else...

Presumably there will be provision for a casino in the basement, then they just need the council, Maradona, and Tesco involved, and it's a goer!

And if it doesn't work, the taxpayer can always pick up the tab.

What's more likely to happen in portsmouth - Guggenheim Southsea opening, or the CVA creditors getting paid?

My money is on 0 out of 2.

Eastwood has just signed for Blackburn:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22691556

Alan Knight for GK?

They've already signed a 25-year old ex-Charlton (reserves) keeper who was on loan at bottom but 3 AFC Wimbledon last season, so I'm guessing he's the starter. They also have a 38 year old who didn't play for them last season either.

46 career appearances in 8 years, 4 loan clubs, 2 free transfers. 5 appearances for Charlton in 2011 the peak of his footballing career so far. It's quite refreshing really.

Hilarious article in the snooze today, I thought this would be one of factless' finest but its not. They love to piggy back on other clubs' success dont they? Even a claim for JWP in there!

Small time, no mark, tin pot, Sondico wearing wannabes.

http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/walker-quick-start-key-now-we-re-team-to-beat-1-5138734

Im thinking of lumping some cash on relegation again

Chesterfield, Bristol Rovers, S****horpe and big-spending Fleetwood are all seen as contenders with the oddsmakers.

Biggest crowds, many of whom are incredibly deluded, so safe to say their odds are shorter due to that for starters - how were they odds-wise for League One last season, I seem to recall pretty short odds considering the pending -10 ?

Exactly. Bookies' odds aren't just about the likelihood of an event happening; they also take into account number of bets made, because that affects their possible losses. Plus supply and demand affects price anyway...why offer long odds if enough fools are putting bets on at short odds?

So if, for example, enough people put bets on Nigel Farage becoming the next prime minister, the odds would be fairly short, even though it is highly unlikely to happen.

Portsmouth having probably the biggest fan base in L2 now that Braford aren't there, means that they will have more deluded fans betting on success than any other L2 club and that in itself will make them favourites.

I thought it was a well known fact that the trusts business plan involves placing the next paracute payment on them winning the league - hence a £6m bet has shortened the odds somewhat.

its a win / win scenerio - win the league and they are quids in and can push on to premier league top 4 and FA cup glory - fail to win the league just go into admin and pay everyone they owe 2p

Ertl promises to sign and explains how he and Guy have in fact already achieved their goal -

It was easy for me. I want to be part of a successful Pompey team and bring stability to the club.

Hopefully we can put the club back where it belongs together.

Job done Jonny boy, you did that through your perfomances last season!

Well done.

Will Factless be paying Pompey rates, eg 4% of 20%?

That could indeed account for someone closely related to Pompey not having their calls returned by local tradesmen. Maybe they've learned their lesson after all... "Thrice bitten....."

Yep: proof-reading and typing 'n all! I shall be submitting my CV to St. Mary's soon: all those new foreign players and a teacher who can do lessons with her football boots on!

1788 pages and over 89,000 posts in one thread? Has anyone submitted this fact to the Guinness Book of World Records?

As we established on the Ramirez thread last summer, it depends on your font size, resolution or browser for page count, cos I'm on page 2235.

The publicity machine is on the move. They are trying to change the meaning of "doing a Portsmouth", and bigging up the ownership structure as a "hybrid" along the lines of the German model.

Nice pic of old Chinny though.

No mention of the impending power struggles over the fat pipes freehold (those charges...) and the land surrounding it.

In recent years, the word Portsmouth has become synonymous with how not to run a football club. Indeed, the financial woes are never likely to be forgotten.

This pimpey thread is a bit small compared to this one which started on 16th Jan 2012

http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/xdtalk-chatter-box/192539-never-never-ever-ever-ending-thread-part-iii-net-3-0-a-10628.html

Random sample from that thread:

"Hello Terry.

How's you day going?

totp"

Talk about quantity over quality.

For quality times quantity, no-one beats the PTS.

One other thing, remember when the Skates swore blind that they'd have "the cheapest kits in England" ? http://www.football-shirts.co.uk/fans/sondico-professional-to-manufacture-portsmouth-kits-from-201314_19079

Newport County's new home shirt is 4p cheaper than theirs.

http://www.newport-county.co.uk/index.php?cat=news&post=County-Hit-The-Jackpot-with-32Red

Still the cheapest in "England" tho :D

I have however noticed that Skate shirts will be sold at SportsDirect stores "in the south" : http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/kit-supplier-seals-pompey-deal-with-a-10k-share-buy-1-5043075

I haven't seen one yet and I've been in 3 different stores since this was announced.

you won't see the new kit in the shops as they will have already sold out due to them having the biggest fanbase in world football - as well as the biggest fan-owned team in the history of sport, much to the envy of all other fans that have ever lived, and those who are yet to be born.

Newport County having a vote on the design of their new programme, guess who they've chosen for the the mock-ups...?

Tch, I MEANT the opposition team they'd put on the cover, not the bloke who (as it turns out) actually played against me when I played against Newport County in 2000.

So 4,300 #Pompey season tickets sold after 3 weeks. 40 per cent up on this time last year. 30 per cent new buyers. http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/pompey-fans-in-a-rush-for-season-tickets-1-5151261 …

Surely #factless #tactless Allen has missed a 1 off the beginning of the number sold. They must have sold more than that measly figure as they are the self proclaimed biggest and bestest fan owned club in the country.........

In-demand winger Ricky Holmes has told Pompey: You are my first choice.

The free agent is being pursued by a number of clubs, including Rotherham, Gillingham, Burton Albion and Southend.

Holmes said: ‘I am speaking to clubs – but Portsmouth are leading the way.

‘If you can get them out of League Two you will forever be a part of history.
