Pompey Takeover Saga

Recommended Posts

Now, here is a thought.

The season has ended. The next pre season only starts in early July.

For a business who have to watch their cash carefully, WHY THE HELL are they signing up players NOW when they have to pay them for 6 weeks holiday while they will be getting minimal income until ST sales start?

Oh sure there are "Footballing" reasons but it makes no Financial sense.

Another 500 pages at least then

#nolessonslearntfactless

Have they actually signed for next season (starting July 1st) or are they PFC players now?

I think he has the right level of delusion to fit right in down there

http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/644853510?-11209:804

And he claims the lure of Pompey saw him turn down a host of other clubs.

He told The News: ‘I am not going to name the clubs but I had the opportunity to jump into League One with some decent teams.

‘I would say there were about five or six.

‘There was a bit of a Championship move that maybe I could have done if I waited out.

‘And there were 10-12 in League Two.

20 clubs including Pompey wanted a loanee who helped relegate Aldershot, Yeah of course there was. His brain cell took a bashing heading the ball last season methinks.

About Bradley in The News (with translation into the truth under):-

In the meantime, Bradley – who made 48 appearances on loan at Aldershot this season – is delighted with the move.

Because now that Aldershot are in the Conference, this enables him to remain playing at the level of his competance - the fourth division.

And he claims the lure of Pompey saw him turn down a host of other clubs.

He told The News: ‘I am not going to name the clubs but I had the opportunity to jump into League One with some decent teams.

I'm not going to name the clubs, as they would deny any interest in me if anybody contacted them. But it makes me feel good to believe that I was wanted.

‘I would say there were about five or six.

I'm not exactly sure whether it was five or six. It might even have been seven. Or four.

There was a bit of a Championship move that maybe I could have done if I waited out.

When Bradley was mentioned as a possible buy for a second divison club, it was assumed that it was Bradley Wright-Phillips. Sorry Sonny.

‘And there were 10-12 in League Two.

And 15 in the Conference. The lower the division, the more teams might take a chance on you.

‘But it was right here. The contract was right, the people were right, the manager was right – this was me.

You and the Skates are made for each other. You've both found your level.

Or in real speak, been at Aldershot don't want to move too far, where are the nearest mugs that will pay me as the last bunch are going bust and got relegated.

At a conference today I got chatting to a Pompey fan who informed me that he bought a share and plans to sell it on for profit.....

Wonder how many others of the "we own our club" club are thinking the same

How will that work then, as it's not really a share in the true sense of the word, and has no finacial return. Then again, they are Skates, and that says it all!

The man's a complete moron! IIRC the ONLY physical token they received in exchange for their grand was a badge, probably not even a shiny one at that!

Who the hell is going to pay him MORE THAN ONE THOUSAND POUNDS for a non shiny, bit of tat, badge? Anyone who is that desperate for a share in pompey will surely just cough up a grand to the trust, why pay more than that when they can still be obtained for the same as he paid?

He was pretty adamant he was going to sell it at some point. He believes that some rich person will buy them all out eventually. Which may be the case but I think it goes to show that a lot of these guys have probably not actually looked at the details in regards to their pledge. As you say I don't think they can sell them can they?

His £1,000 is effectively a non-conditional donation. Did he not read the wonderful prospectus that explained they weren't shares?

If the biggest community club in the world were to accept an offer for the club they may very well choose to divi out the proceeds but they are under no legal obligation to do so (as far as I'm aware).

Anyway, surely they will want to remain as the bestest community owned club forever given its such a brilliant operating model and a beacon to the rest of the footballing world...

@GraemeBailey: Stoke City have agreed a deal for Australian starlet Alex Grant from Portsmouth, Sky Sports understands. http://t.co/0cBb356kJ9

@LawrencePFCHall: Why do we release players who then walk into premier league clubs? So frustrating! #Pompey

What was it they were saying a few days ago about repelling the likes of Chelsea from 'stealing' their youth players?

I know everyone on here wants to facepalm everything Pompey ever do from now until the end of time, but that is a nice little ad and a good message.

Facepalm the :facepalm:ers.

Indeed. No doubt they'll also be consigning their DVDs of the Premier League and FA Cup glory days to the rubbish tips of history to avoid their kids' minds getting tainted by the excesses and evils of those illgotten halcyon days...

They didn't give a sh.it that so many has been priced out when in the EPL and now they are desperate not to lose a generation of fans.

One of the best things our club did was free U11s tickets in L1 & NPC

Facepalm the :facepalm:ers eh?

Kids in Pompey aren't idiots that don't know the difference between reality and TV.

Pompey being on TV isn't going to be a major reason for people to not go this season.

Telling customers why they shouldn't stay at home, instead of saying why they should go isn't good marketing.

Using language generally reserved for charity ads ("Don't let....") isn't the right message for Pompey to be putting across at the moment.

It's a nice little soundbite, but that doesn't mean it's good marketing.

This sanctimonious "it's a disgrace" :facepalm:ing only makes my original point even more valid.

Your line about "how dare they use a line from a charity ad" is probably my current favourite example of PTS frothing at the mouth. Absolutely hilarious.

And nice little soundbites, based on a great little insight, does go a long way to making "good marketing". So there.

I love the irony that it will be many years before they are available on any form of TV.

Its not an irony though, is it.

Its a lower league club trying to get parents to bring their kids along for some "real" football at their local club.

It would be far more ironic if we used the same line to get kids to come to SMS.

Whilst I disagree with CB Fry's rather aggressive posting style, he has got a point. They will my the law of averages do some things right. The cheap kids deal looks well thought out and that advert not the worst I have ever seen. Not everything that emirates from Fatpipes will be worthy of a facepalm.

But dont despair, there will continue to be humour. The PST will contradict itself, players will come in and declare themselves excited to be playing for such a massive club and a Southampton Property Developer will be sat in his Bentley on Frogmore Road waiting for his rent each month.

Not to mention that **** Neil Allen.

They have stolen from charities before, luckily it's only their words this time.

This is going to hurt.... but I kind of agree with CB Fry on this one. Whatever we think of their past and the hilarity that really masks the anger with what they got away with... whatever we think of the potential competence of their new set up, I cant really see anything wrong with them at least trying to encourage kids to support their local side and not fall victim to the Sky ideal that football satrts and ends with Manu U and Chelski etc al

I enjoy laughing at them, I am honest to admit that it still amkes me angry how they can ignore the reality of how they written off so much yet keep the spoils, but the truth is if they are to rebuild and have any future, they need their kids to to become local fans and that is afterall the cornerstone of all clubs, weather prem or conference.

I see that my points went completely over your head.

I'm not making the point that "it's a disgrace," every one of my points is my opinion that the marketing isn't the best way for them to get people through the gate.

Thing is though Jimmy, critcising their choice of slogans for their campaign is one thing, but its the principle of encouraging youngsters to support that is good surely and just because its pompey and their ad approachshould we not acknowledge that the princip;le is sound, even if their advertsiing is not to your taste?

Oh of course, it's the absolutely the right thing to be trying to do.

I just don't think they trying in the right way with that.

We'd take the **** and laugh at them, but they'd probably be far better off playing on the fact there's a media perception that Fratton Park has one of the best atmospheres around, give people a reason to go.

So you're saying that pretending Fratton Park has a rocking atmosphere is a better marketing tool than reducing prices to around £3 a game for kids?

I hope you're not actually basing Pompey's whole marketing campaing on the strength of of one poster.

No, just that aspect of it.

They didn't need to use that sort of negative marketing at all, playing on Fratton Park's percieved atmosphere is just one of any number of positive slants they could have used.

Seems like a perfectly good and effective marketing policy to me. Cheap seats for kids, and a decent enough strapline. They've got enough propaganda down there with the Portsmouth News, all their Pack the Park b*llocks and such like, so they need a variation on the theme. Plus they have a concerted drive to get more kids to turn up. Pretty good move really, its not as if they're going to do anything with the thousands of empty seats they're likely to have.

Still, this thread seems to have turned from one mocking genuine issues to mocking decent ideas, just because its them. So I shouldn't be surprised.

'Tis only my opinion, who knows, maybe it'll get traction, properly take off and the next generation of Pompey fans will get dragged along to Fratton Park, good luck to em if it does.
