Pompey Takeover Saga

Fitzhugh Fella

Recommended Posts

Well at least they've started the new year with better form.

But in their defence, with that run of form they've done well to stay in touch - they should be ten points adrift at the bottom.

Though I believe the Football League can still organise that for them if required.

I haven't heard Connolly say that they are the best fans he's ever played in front of - presumably some mischievous local media will try and coax that out of him sometime soon.

Have we returned to that point where mocking seems cruel?

Though I do find that the sympathetic feeling fades a little everytime I hear a further version of a mythical docks strike or Nazi story.

All in all the very few have a lot to look forward to...

‘No-one has yet told us they intend to leave and the same applies to Gabor, whose contract is up very soon.

‘He has received a letter telling him we are going to carry on with his contract – then he has to give us notice of what he is going to do.

‘So he has to tell us soon, obviously time is running out.’

Unless I'm reading that incorrectly, that's a bit of an odd contractual arrangement, isn't it? The players are on monthly contracts yet Pompey can activate a contract extension which the players then have to opt out of rather than it being an opt in arrangement?

Seems like yet another example of Pompey setting things up to shaft the players either way should they choose to...

Probably totally unenforceable as well

Sounds to me that it's up to the player whether he'll continue.

Ultimately, yes, but the default position seems to be that a player has to opt out of an extension rather than opt in. A bit like an insurance renewal whereby if you forget to cancel it you're stuffed because they've got you tied in for another period of time.

Anyway, just a minor observation in the general scheme of things :)

Normally I wouldn't write an article about opposition fans but following today's 5-0 win over Pompey, special mention must go to the travelling Portsmouth fans who made the trip to the County Ground today.

1,504 Pompey fans made the pilgrimage to Swindon to watch their team take a 5-0 beating but to them, it didn't matter.

Their club, like Swindon Town have been through the mire, rubbish ownership and no money and came within days of liquidation, in fact they aren't out of the woods yet.

Many fans would march out being down 3-0 but the majority stayed and just had fun.

They know they are certain to play League Two Football next season, should they still be in existence.

Ok, whilst not mathematically certain, and Pompey are only just in the League One relegation places but they will get a 10 point deduction when they finally exit administration which will take them to the bottom of the pile.

Whilst Town fans mocked their Hampshire counterparts with chants of 'Going Down', Pompey fans responded with humorous chants of "We lose every week, We lose every week....you're nothing special.....We lose every week!"

Towards the end of the game you could be mistaken for thinking Southampton had been relegated from the Premier League as wild cheering erupted from the Portsmouth fans.

Late in the game the fans chanted 'lets pretend we scored a goal', and all enjoyed a wild celebration.

Such was the class of the Portsmouth fans, even Town boss Paolo Di Canio clapped them at the end of the game.

Whilst we are enjoying the good times right now, it was great to see a club, although in the brown stuff, still able to enjoy themselves and be proud of the effort the players are making despite getting thumped week in and week out.

We look forward to the next time our paths cross.

As our sister site Vital Pompey would say, 'PLAY UP POMPEY!' and lets hope the fans do gain proper ownership of the club, they deserve it.

An (articulate?) Skate view on the upcoming of the court case :

saveportsmouthfc

5:13 PM on 01/01/2013

I think this is what will happen in court in january if the judge values ground within robinson/trust value figure happy days if not all not lost their has been hints of other buyers on the seen

1. value with in trust they will run club

2 value above Trust may stretch or another buyer may come in.

3 value to high another buyer may take risk !

4 value silly price liquidation

perhaps Trust will go for newco portsmouth

ps i have seen a weathly business man talking about buying a Football club on twitter he did not say pompey but he was at fratton at Yeovil game and he has been asked if he would buy pompey but theirs been no reply ! i take it not as a yes or no

Seriously, do they have schools down there ??

Saw Rivaldo play for Uzbek team Bunyodkor against Adelaide United about 4 years ago. Bearing in mind the A-League standard is probably just below League One, from what I saw he was sh1t3 then, 4 years older he'll be sh1tter now. Perfect fit - 5h1t & over paid

Milton Keynes manager Karl Robinson has revealed that talks were in an advanced stage on Tuesday night to move to the club, with the 28-year-old taking a pay cut to make the move.

“People need to realise that Izale McLeod massively wants to be here and financially, he’s taken a hit to be here. When people do that for a football club, I will always be willing to have them here

So how much were they paying him:scared: :scared:

I still have my Olympiacos Vodaphone shirt...With number 10 RIVALDO thereon.........Red and White stripes...:)

Gave my mate in Athens, Saints shirt with Pele thereon......

Rivaldo was not that good there either....

I am sure Rivaldo.....alongside Maradonna and Riquelme will still turn it on at Moneyfields stadium for Pompey in Hants League 4..:D

Maybe Pele could get a game with them as well.

On the reverse to this were some comments on the 'Town End' (?) Forum about 'the drunken, foul smelling idiot with the bell' and from a father who's 13 year old daughter had been terrorised by some Pompey fans after the game.

Don't think there was much 'class' displayed here.

Meanwhile Kevin Bond (ex Asst at Pompey) is waxing lyrical abour 'fantastic' supporters at QPR.

Surely there are none comparable to the 'fratton faithful'?

John 'Pompey' Westwood has posted this on his Twitter account so it must be true!!

Is he using his twitter account again? Thought he had given up on it after all the abuse tweeted his way.

Theo, Avram plus A N Other there Saturday apparently.

There must be some mistake here. I'm sure Mr Allen assured everyone that Pompey players were/are on the second lowest wages in League One...

Why do people buy into this Pompey myth, what they were doing was just "Gallows Humour"!! Just about every fan from every club has used it before!

One I remember (from another Club) is Ipswich when they were on the end of 9-0 thumping by United.

The United fans were chanting "we want 10, we want 10", the Ipswich fans replied with "we want 1, we want 1". And as Granty has pointed out we were pretty much the same in our Relegation season from the NPC..

Nothing special to be honest

Very similar to last season when my Brighton Supporting mate and her son had an awful experience with their fans on the train - went to loads of games and met loads of other teams fans but she hated the skate fans with a passion said they were absolutely foul

and the leading entry in the Steve Cotterill Award for the most ridiculous post-defeat quote of 2013 goes to heroic potential villian Lee Willamson, with this little Swindon gem -

We were the better team for an hour and then, all of a sudden, we were 5-0 down.

Yeah, it's the sort of thing you get quite often in football - I recall how Villa were all over Chelsea until the blues slotted in eight goals, and then it looked a different game.

It was the same when we went to the Emirates, we bossed the game all over the park and even had more kicks-off than Arsenal, but we didn't get the rub of the green.

Williamson is also entered in the Understatement of the Season category with

We’ve had a bit of a bad run...

But about the whole fans love-in thing, can we just clarify a few facts.

I realise that pompey have no reason to discuss on the pitch stuff but let's get back to reality as I sense that fickle old mistress delusion creeping back into the spin about the fans.

Facts

Like most clubs in their position, their home attendances have been quite poor.

The rallying cry to pack the park was a disaster.

Like most fans, they have booed when players are rubbish

Their away following is smaller than many teams - it has been appalling on several occasions.

Both their attendances and away followings have been nowhere near our own when in the third tier.

EVERY fanbase resorts to humour when the score has become a joke.

EVERY fanbase gets patted on the head for staying in the ground by teams that have hammered them.

And two more special bestest related facts -

The Trust bid is still a property deal, not a fan buyout - and it isn't the first by a long way.

So why are we still hearing the spin?

We make no claims to being special, or the bestest, normal clubs don't.

The likes of Utd, Celtic, Newcastle, Liverpool - they are big clubs with away followings that create atmospheres.

Nige always bigs up the SMS crowd and yes we do get behind the team, but I wouldn't imagine we are much better or worse than other 30K grounds.

We've taken over some small grounds in the past but I didn't hear anyone saying that as a result we are bigger than Boca Juniors.

Yet the very few continue to spout mindless drivel - these statements are nothing more than myths for the hard-of-thinking to lap up.

Persisting with this 'look at us we're special' policy just makes the unpacked park even funnier, and means that bigger clubs like Brighton, Crawley, and Bournemouth can join in the game called laugh at the deluded bloke.

Time to button it - rather than gobbing off like a wino being moved on, maybe they should maintain a dignified silence as they gently slip into the 4th tier.

I cant help but find it strange that we have gone weeks without hearing from the parties in the forefront of the future for Pompey! After all of the past rubbish being spouted on a daily basis. Now it is no utterings from the PST, nothing from the HNWs and nothing from trickey Trev. My gut feel says something is brewing that will catch us all on the hop before the next court hearing. What do you other Nutjobs think?

Ironically a friend of mine's wife, who lives in Sussex, had the misfortune to travel, by train, with 2 young children on a Saturday a couple of years ago with some Pompey 'fans'.

She is a fairly open minded person but said their behaviour was appalling and threatening to mainly women and young kids.

I am not naive enough to say that Pompey are alone in having such 'supporters' but a significant percentage of their lot like to revel in the 657 Crew mythology.

Again on the Swindon Forum there was comment regarding moronic behaviour on the post match train to Reading.

When you think we probably took a large percentage of the 50,000 + supporters to Wembley by train for the JPT , and I can't recollect one bad word (even allowing for the overcrowding)

This picture sums up for me the meaning of WTFILN.

That terrace brings back unhappy memories. 2 defeats 1-0 were not fun. One game marked Ricky's Saints debut, The second was our last match pre Adkins.

Haven't we come a long way in a short space of time??

I've never been to the County Ground so don't know what the away end is like but is that really 1,500 away fans??

Is it still 10% allocation for away fans in the Football League? If so, with the County Ground's capacity of ~15k, 10% would be 1,500 so I would expect the away end to be full.......

Blimey its quiet today, no rumours, no gossip, is this the Lull before the storm.

I heard a sound bite from Farmery on Jack FM this morning, saying the PST was on track and confirming they've had over £1m worth of "shares" bought!!

Amusingly he said that they got to the £1m mark quicker than expected....

They have £1m in the bank. Colin is being cute with his answer.

They are somewhat snookered by the amount of people who clubbed together instead of buying a share each and they are also aware that plenty used Xmas bonus money to do it and know it will slow to a trickle now.

the last time they went this quiet before the court date we thought they had something really clever up their sleeves.

They didn't.

Having heard Farmery on Solent last night I see no reason to expect some case-winning revelation to sweep them to victory.

He thinks a new court date will be set, possibly end of Jan or into Feb.

I expect nothing to be sorted before the end of the transfer window other than rich businessmen becoming reluctant to cover losses, little progress on the pitch, and the only positive from their point of view will be the occasional noise made through their chosen media partners.

the Trust bid is right on track, we are ready to take control, despite being 3,000 people a game, one division, and £10M short of our own ambitious projections....

You know, Rallyboy is totally wasted on this forum.

He should become one of those Life Coach Guru's.

He could offer an internet service on behalf Mankind.

All he ever has to do is simply (and eloquently) state the bleeding obvious.

In fact, if he ever used this technique to enter into politics, he would win by a landslide.

1612 pages of simply stating the bleedin obvious.

And yet noone in skateland except Micah and Sarah have even spotted it.

Would have saved SO much pain.

God, imagine if only Rallyboy was around at the time of Jaques Delors & his moronic Euro project. How much pain he could have saved the peoples of Europe.

Can someone explain this to me?

The original court date was in December....that was adjourned until 14th January....so....why does it now appear that the 14th Jan is merely a date to set another court date at "some point in the future" rather than the 14th Jan being the date that the case will be heard again?

In other words, what's the point of an adjournment date that simply serves as a date to announce the actual adjournment date?

Am I missing something simple? (other than a bag of marbles)

It is an adjournment to announce a new court date. The original date gave two days for the hearing and this is just one. Very much doubt they would get a new date before the end of January. Most likely mid February.

We could be about to have even more fun.

Plymouth from League 2,scored how many, 4 was it, against the Pompey youth team ? Pompey conceded 5 on Tuesday. They now plan on playing more youngsters.

I can see some real drubbings as the season progresses. What are the odds on the opposition in one game getting to double figures?

Its a tough one. I've been perusing POL and I'm not sure I fully get it. But I'll have a go.

As I understand it, the original court case was set for a Thursday and a Friday. Immediately on the Thursday, PKFs legal team reequested an adjournment as there were issues with their case. The judge allowed them until the next day so that the lawyers could talk and potantially come to some agreement. This wasn't reached by the Friday, at which point the judge then adjourned the case further.

Now, this is the bit where I'm unsure, but it seems the adjournment to Jan 15th was to give the legal teams further time to potentially come to an agreement. If they reach agreement on the legal points they can apply to court for a proper court date as soon as they reach agreement. If they don't reach agreement, they return to court on 15th when the judge will see what progress they've made and potentially set a new hearing date following that.

This Portsmouth News article explains it somewhat.

I've taken my eye off the ball here as I thought the next date was to sort out ownership. Are we now saying that if agreement hasn't been reached it's merely to set a date for it all to be decided??
