Pompey Takeover Saga

So here's a question...

We know about Saints' own rise up the leagues in years gone by, and the likes of Watford and Wimbledon did it quite impressively too... but what's the quickest a team has been relegated down the leagues? Not expelled or kicked out, but actually passed through the divisions the other way? Irrespective of points deductions, I can't think of any other team who would've gone from Div 1 to Div 4 so quickly, if it does indeed happen to the bestest. Anyone?

As other posters have said, Northampton, Swansea and Wolves went down the divisions rapidly. Two others I can think of that descended into the basement at a huge rate of knots are Bristol City late 70s/early 80s (including a caretaker stint by Roy Hodgson) and Sheffield United during the early 1980s from their Tony Currie heyday.

A plea from the club was sent to Pompey fans via email from their manager, which started with:

"Everyone knows that Pompey fans are the loudest and most loyal fans in the world"

I love their delusion, it's hilarious.

they are until they have to pay up.....that could be the fans and the club of course

Just spoken with a silk who I know. He says Sales has a "top drawer mind"... So no getting away with it on spurious stuff I'd hope.

I'm wondering if the fact that he held the position of 'First Treasury Council' in the 1990s means we can deduce he might have little sympathy with an organisation that has diddled HMRC out of c.£50m across two administrations?

The problem there is which side does he take, considering Portpin did the biggest diddling...

OK, Hatch, Clapham Saint, Torres, Gemmell, Trousers, Joe K, and Steve G, are we all still up for meeting at the George pub on the Strand at say 12.45 ish on Friday lunchtime??

I should be there. I have a couple of deadline which could get in the way but hopefully they won't be a problem.

(wow some of us have melted away quicker than Pompey fans asked to make good on their pledges...)

I note that some of you will be in the George on the Strand on Friday !

I am ending a pubcrawl of the City about 15.30 in that area, will you still be there then ?

Warning in advance - I may be a bit p!ssed but I'm always well behaved (just tend to slur a bit!).

Guys - watch out, remember there will be a 'coach load' of pompey fans up there looking for someone else to blame. I make that you 5 or 6 versus 2 so you should be fine.

Glad for #Bradford being back in FA Cup but can't help but wonder how many points us at #Pompey would have lost for doing same!

Erm....excuse me mister....when you lot cheated in the FA Cup you ended up winning the thing....

Not to mention that as they are entirely different competitions, there are no FOOTBALL LEAGUE points penalties given for breaking rules about player eligibility in the FA CUP...

Persecution complex much?

As I suspected, our esteemed local journalist doesn't even know what time of day it is half the time...

@pn_neil_allen: Permission granted to Tweet from the High Court. I'll be there both days giving updates on case progress. Starts 10.30pm tomorrow. #Pompey

Last one out turn off the lights Neil...

Chinny must have pulled the plug

The thing is; he's instructed lawyers and they must have undertaken a significant amount of (paid) research just to get this far. And they have a formal offer from the PDT for £2.75M. Would a valuation from the court change that offer? Don't know, but it seems like Birch is going to court to make Portpin accept the PDT's offer, not a random valuation that the court may choose to pick.

Portpin wanted an adjournment (and were previously denied one according to POL) so, while it seems the likeliest cause, I wouldn't be too quick to assume that its a Portpin withdrawal that has caused this.

@pn_neil_allen: General scratching of heads all round. Adjournment nothing to do with Trust. PKF are proving difficult to get hold of. #Pompey

Why would it be anything to do with the trust? It's Birch v Chinnery isn't it?

Hurrah!

The guns have stopped, the battle has been won!

The big knobs have got around the table and yanked the big iron out of the fire....

Or perhaps Team Chinster has just eased the handbrake on and is watching the PDT's legal fees creeping up faster than little Avram at a Baywatch convention.

If the Football League firing a warning shot at them the other day could be spun as a vote of confidence, then I'm sure this delay is fantastic news.

Unless you had booked a Matiz to carry the blue army up there.

Yes that's it, fan power has forced the court to have a rethink, the biggest fan buyout has proved too much for Justice Sales to cope with, we need a more important judge who can cope with the pressure of the best club in the world - the thought of that massive crowd with all of their banners bringing central London to a standstill proved too much.

I bet the Met asked for a new date when they heard about the bookshop van full of porn, grass, and a chemical toilet heading their way....

Come on Penny, come on beardie, tell us what you think about this latest success, and how you did your bit to blaze a trail that will lead football into a new age (even those clubs that have done it already).....this rubber-stamping exercise is less hassle than we thought, it'll be a matter of minutes before they get the keys and ride off into the sunset.

FANtastic!!

yawn.

:?

And on a funnier note - anyone else seen the pompey 2012 calendar? - guess who Mr December is?....

Sadly not Ben Haim - but Kanu!

He's appeared just before the court case to remind them about his claim.

According to POL the lawyers know nothing about it, PKF have announced the adjournment.

Despite my previous post, I'm actually starting to think that Chinny has pulled out. If he goes to court and loses he has to pay court costs for the other side; if he pulls out Tricky Trev will just accept the £2.75M offer and take the court costs and his excessive fees from whats left of the (parachute payments) cash in the bank.

This is terrible news for Trevor '£9k per week' Birch. He will have to soldier on at his pitiful rate.

I see the Skates are clinging to straws like Graham Rix clings to a One Direction fan. Face facts chaps, if there is an adjournment and PKF don't tell you why, it's not because you are home and dry.

Still, better get converting those pledges chaps.

Adjourned, not settled. Big difference.

Shame... I was looking forward to another court case. It must be literally months since the last one.

Could be that chainrai now believes that the longer they are in admin, the less viable the business plan becomes, and his end game now is just to delay until they go pop?

Sustaining PKF fees alone is hoovering up the pledges, but with the January transfer window just around the corner and the likelihood of losing players, plus the 1st anniversary of going in to admin arriving shortly after in February (and i believe that is also a statutory deadline of some sort) time is absolutely of the essence for the PDT.

Torpedo the PDT's business plan and suddenly it's liquidation time, with no other viable option. He's then in pole position to get the ground... Oh, and it's from any messy planning restrictions due to there being no football club...

Or perhaps I've been exposed to too many conspiracy theories today...
