Pay day is not that far away either,so if you add on the wages that are going to be have to be paid they are going to need a substantial investment or sell playing staff sharpish. slickmick Posted 19 January, 2010 Share Posted 19 January, 2010 Watching South Today and it just goes to show how deluded some of them are. One of them stated.. "I can't see it happening, the fanbase here is just too strong... I can't see it happening.." That's the fanbase that has "packed" Fratton park to the rafters each week eh? The fanbase that half filled Fratton for a home cup game knowing full well that they were struggling to even pay the players wages.... It's that sort of deluded behaviour that has got them where they are now...[/QUOTE] Sounds familiar. Reminds me of another south coast club who's fans deserted when times were desperate. St Marco Posted 19 January, 2010 Share Posted 19 January, 2010 I don't think this Jacobs guy quite understands the seriousness of it all. He might be able to blag time from the PL with empty promises and have a club or two write on a piece of paper that they will not ask for payment until xyz. But to try that with the government and the law of the country was never going to work. So they now HAVE to pay £7.5m to the taxman by February the 10th and the case will be dropped. If they don't they will have to go to court and argue their case. That means every single penny that came into the club or went out of the club will be looked over with a magnifying glass. If some of the people connected to the club are on individual charges it does not take a genius to work out that it is very likely they have got something on them. They were not going to go "oh yeah your right, our bad, we were a few million out". Portsmouth owe £3m to other clubs and have to pay the wages again in a couple of weeks. Meaning they need to find a total of £12m in the next 22 days just to be doing what they are doing now. If they can't sell any players or reduce the bill by loads then the only hope they have is someone putting that money in from their own pocket. With this announcement i think no bank will loan them any money as they realise they have no financial manouvability left. If they lend anything and the tax bill is uphold they will have lost it instantly. I think it is safe to say they are now about 99.9% likely to go into admin by this time next month unless someone puts the money in themselves. I think it may come down to how much they can make by selling players in the next couple of weeks. A few good sales and they could probably pay HMRC and make their other debts that are due (depending if gady junior pushes for his payment) but effectively leaving them with nothing in the locker in terms of assets but the football franchise, for lack of a better term, and that's not really something you can get a loan against. The High Court isn't exactly cheap. Not massive. Advice briefs will be about £500 each. Solicitor costs at £300 per hour - Jacob will likely waive his Brief fee for court hearing about £4,000 each unless QC's used then about £8,000 each for the first day with a likely second day refresher at £2,000 each.
