For the sake of being able to produce a badge such as this, a club is about to meet its maker - hope they think it was all worth it - a few of the bestest probably think it was. WTFILN

Just back from holiday and amazed to find that the DCB's are still just about hanging on to their life-support machine.

Ah! The badge that commemorates the match when the third division team dominated the match for 70 minutes against the Premiership star-studded team and would certainly have scored at least twice more, had not the England number one goalkeeper played a blinder. And then two players who arguably shouldn't have been wearing Skate shirts changed the game as we tired and experience and pace showed against our mix of youngsters and older players.

What a shame that nobody brought that badge to the attention of the club at the time it was made, as surely there are copyright issues regarding our club crest and the people who published it could have been forced to withdraw it from sale and suffered a loss?

But it acts as a timely reminder that it has only been two and a half years since they were in the Premiership and we were in the third division and now we are thriving and in the Premiership and they are either on the verge of extinction or going to suffer a long lingering demise, falling further and further down the divisions.

Time for us to draw them in the FA Cup this year methinks, play them at Krap Nottarf and beat their rag-tag collection of kids and journeymen 4-1, just to see whether they would accept that the result ought to be inevitable given the circumstances, or whether they would still insist that beating us was some sort of major achievement.

Nice of them to come up with a badge reminding everyone, that they have been in administration four times to our one, and even that was our parent company!

@pn_neil_allen: RT @pn_steve_wilson: The trouble with Twitter is that you get inundated with misinformed rubbish that gets spouted about #Pompey - mainly from rival 'fans'...

What "misinformed rubbish" might that be then? Hark the distant sound of the truth hitting home...

What are 'non-contract terms'?

Is this a genuine pay-as-you-play arrangement with no on-going contract or something else?

Very funny that they wasted their time checking out trialists who are all out of their price range. When they finally sort out an owner, they will have hardly anytime to drag together a group of players not good enough to get contracts with any other club. The longer it goes on, the worse the players they end up with.

I expect the administrators fees to get agreed and then at the last minute, in a move that is totally out of character, Chinny tells the Football league that he cannot purchase the club under their conditions and asks them to co-operate with him, otherwise he will liquidate the club.

http://www.portsmouthfc.co.uk/LatestNews/news/Pompey-Sign-Eastwood-3593.aspx

Pompey have signed goalkeeper Simon Eastwood on non-contract terms.

The 23-year-old is eligible to play in Tuesday night’s Capital One Cup clash with Plymouth at Home Park.

Eastwood has been training with Pompey for the past month and featured in friendlies against Gibraltar, Bolton and AFC Wimbledon.

Blues boss Michael Appleton said: “Obviously we need a goalkeeper and Simon has been playing in the pre-season games for us.

“It’s on a non-contract basis, so it could be ripped up at any time, but hopefully in the future we’ll be looking at giving him a contract.”

Eastwood came through the ranks at Huddersfield – where he had loan spells at Woking and Bradford – and spent last season at Conference North side Halifax.

So non-contract basis means a contract that's not worth the paper it's written on, so just like a normal Pompey contract then.

A mate of mine took his kids down to Clarence Pier last week

Apparently there is a public toilet across the road with a sign at the entrance that says 'No cycles. No Skates'

Made him laugh

Also further up along by the Pyramids is a garden area named 'The Dell'!!

Don't be too hasty in sticking bets on Plymouth tomorrow night, a friend of mine (a diehard Pilgrim!) has seen most of their pre-season matches and reckons that they'd struggle to beat a pub team right now !

I pointed out that the Skates will be playing their under 16's but he is still not confident !

I'm more looking forward to seeing how they get on v Bompey, that'll be much more of a barometer for the upcoming season !!

Just went on Skybet to whack 50 notes on Plymouth winning by 3 or more goals (5/1 when I checked yesterday), all bets been pulled apart from the match result. Check Betfred and I can't find the game at all! Shame, should have been quicker.

I got 18/1 on Plymouth to win by 4+ goals earlier at ladbrokes. That dropped to 7's within a couple of minutes, now best in that market is Plymouth to score 3.5 goals + at 13/2. Correct score might be the way to go with small stakes! http://sports.ladbrokes.com/en-gb/football/english/plymouth-v-portsmouth-e216264924#

Appy: "The problem you've then got is trying to find players to fit the new budget"

Welcome to the real world of running a football club within its means....

Old Appymort has gone even further down in my estimation. Surely he must have realised that the £4million budget was way over the odds for League One, but it troubled him not one jot that the only way that could be afforded was to feck over everyone who ever touched that diseased club. And now reality bites he is whingeing to the press.

Dpo you think the Septic isle is built on some festering, bubbling swamp like the 'matmos' in Barbarella? (Showing my age, but elder gentlemen with a passing interest in sci-fi and a youthful Jane Fonda's pert physique will know what I mean).

Everyone who ever goes there gets corrupted and deluded.

1.4K is the average wage in league one. They can still get a team together with their budget. OK they can't have the Brian Howards like the top teams in the division can but they should have been living on a low league one budget for a while now. Given half a chance they would still be looking for a top wage budget for league one. Scandalous again but not surprising.

The thing with that dirty little cesspit of a club, is that it would be completely unsurprising if they managed to fluke a win against Plymouth tomorrow, with everyone praising poor old plucky Pompey showing courage through adversity blah blah blah.

It wouldn't help their argument with the FL to cut them some slack and let them sign some players though would it.

They really do need to get thrashed to prove they need experience to be competitive. It would actually be quite funny if their youth team won in some ways

Nah...we want Pompey to win so we can meet them in the second round... :-)

Nah, I saw the posts about the price on the Plymouth win and lumped on. F*ck Pompey, we'll still be laughing at them for years to come whether we play them or not.

well Westwood has magically turned from a coach who was not registered as a player, as that would break the league embargo, into.....a player. :o

A sly move widely predicted on day one of him coming in under radar.

Suggestion at the time was that he was being brought in as player-coach but wouldn't be registered with the FL yet, so are they the first team in league history to have signed a player while under embargo?

And thats ignoring the fact that they made someone redundant and then replaced them...

This all opens the door for UnAppy to bring in another dozen 'player-coaches'.

It's the little tricks that make me chuckle, they just keep on pushing the limits.

From all I hear about Plymouth I think it'll be a tight affair between two of the league's worst sides.

It looks like win-win.

Either they get hammered out of sight, or they win, and maybe earn a home tie against us.

@pn_neil_allen: First-team coach Ashley Westwood set to feature for #Pompey tomorrow. Him, Eastwood and nine 17/18 year olds expected line-up at Plymouth.

How have they managed to sneak Westwood past the Football League's embargo in a player/coach role where he can actually be used as a player? They'll be signing Brian Howard and Lionel Messi as player/coaches next.

Just looked up his career on Wiki, it's not exactly dazzling. I don't have too much of a problem with him playing, as long as they're paying him a wage commensurate with his duties as a coach, rather than the higher salary associated with players.

I want to ask how on earth they're able to field a new "player" when they're still under a transfer embargo... but of course, this is Portsmouth. Normal rules don't apply

Well they will need a Sports Science Coach

A Dietician Coach

A Physical Conditioning Coach

A Chief Coach Scout

A Ticket Office Training Coach

Or is Appy going to have to start doing some actual work

This is Pompey we're talking about, what do you think the likelihood of that is?
