Pompey Takeover Saga

The bit from Kanu's statement I like was "is willing to compromise significantly by a combination of waiving/deferring his entitlement provided he is certain the club will actually be saved and there will be an upside at some date in the future."

Remarkably percipient! They've noted that any promise involving a CVA is not worth the paper it's written on..nor can chinny be guaranteed to maintain the existance of the club beyond the next parachute payment. (Which is when, incidentally?)

you have been saying this since they were in the prem

now they have -10 in league 1. hardly any players, no kit, and no money and 2 weeks from going pop

how have they gotten away with it..?

if you believe that is enough that is fine by me, but it is not in my book. Plenty of them feel liquidation was worthwhile it to get the Wembley visits etc. To then survive they would have double whammy. While they are breathing they have many years to come back again, and can pick up another backer, as stupid as it seems it has happened a few times already. As am older than you and can remember when they were off the radar swimming around the depths of the leagues, when they nearly were liquidated but found MM and then became a force spending what they couldn't afford. It will be far better seeing their children and more probably their grandchildren wearing Saints shirts in the future. Let them live and you will have the odd derby, whoopie do, I won't miss that much but them having no club will be fine by me. The cheating and stealing has gone past my compassion for the club, sorry Mack Edited by OldNick

I did (to my AMAZEMENT) find a shop catering to sue's size -

Yah rude b****r, I'm positively sylph like compared to pictures of various golfing personages I've seen!;-) Can't imagine Thai markets catering for fat Germans, British or (gulp) 'Mericans don't have large sizes...

So what did you beat them down too then?

If only Pompey had an owner and manager like Colchester Utd

Colchester are due to face financially-stricken Portsmouth in their second league game of the season and Ward said events Fratton Park served as a warning to other clubs.

"I've got a sensible chairman who's got a business head as well and although he loses money on Colchester United, he wants to lose less and wants to encourage it more to be self-sufficient," said Ward.

"There's no way that [Portsmouth's situation] will happen here. We might not bring the marquee names in but there's a group of players and a coaching staff that have all bought in with the chairman on what we're trying to do.

"We've made it pretty plain to supporters and said 'this is where we are and if you want to retain a Football League club in Colchester for the next few years, hopefully you'll support what we're trying to do because it is the only way forward for our club'."

Seems like a plan any small poorly surpported club like pompey should try to follow

just spent two hours in pompey, did Arry a bit of market research to support his grand claims.

Only saw three shirts - pompey 2-1 Chelsea.

It appears Arry's dog was talking crap.

Though I did see a lot of scrawny pike-children who are either sporting our new home kit, or have still to grasp the connection between direct sun for twelve hours and skin cancer.

And from The News it does look like old naughty hands has dropped a clanger re the players' chances of getting paid.

They really need to rehearse these statements if they want to show a united front.

How is Moneypenny doing raising funds to save the club?

It looks like that sponsored pie-eating contest she embarked on is going particularly well.

Finally, business news...Anyone seen the side of the building that is missing a letter at Hilsea?

it says in massive print

Portsmouth holesale

Either Mr Birch is already selling the ground, or Avram has hit the jackpot.

Mate - You were born to write poetry !!:toppa:

I thought it derived from a large sign over the entrance to a theatre, the canopy of which is called a marquee, especially in America.

But they won't not have a club, they will simply reform. You're living in lala land if you think that they'd have no club at all.

Surely he's not daring to imply that the Pompey fans are as much to blame for where they are now as the owners etc? How ridiculous..... anyone daring to suggest that the fans were happy to go along for the ride in the foreseeable knowledge that their club was on a collision course to oblivion can only be called one thing..... A NUTJOB!!

You seem to be forgetting how Pompey has been run over the last few years.... Marquee signings is pretty accurate in my book...

I stand corrected (by the OED) but to my mind it still should be marque because that signifies a leading (brand). I hadn't heard of the American theatre billing bit before.

I'll just block my ears from now on.

I take it you haven't seen Jerry Maguire:

Jerry: I started talking with Dennis Wilburn about your renegotiation.

Rod: Talking. Jerry Rice, Andre Reed, Chris Carter... I smoke all these fools. They are making the big sweet dollars. They are making the... kwan, and you are talking.

Jerry: Kwan. That's your word?

Rod: Yeah, man, it means love, respect, community... and the dollars too. The whole package. The kwan.

Jerry: Great word. Towel?

Rod: No, I air-dry.

Jerry: Rod, I say this with great respect, but those players you mentioned are marquee players...

Rod: Marquee?!?

Jerry: Here's what I'm saying. This is a renegotiation. We want more from them, so let's show them more from us. Let's show them your pure joy of the game, let's bury the attitude a little, let's show them --

Rod: You're telling me to dance.

Jerry: No, I'm saying to be --

Rod: "Love me love me love me... put me on t.v." That's the iconography of racism, man!

Jerry: Rod, I'm not a racist. I'm telling you to be the best version of you, to get back to the guy who first started playing this game. Way back when you were a kid. It wasn't just about the money, was it?...Was it?

Rod: Do your job, man, don't tell me to dance.

Jerry: Fine. Fine. Fine, fine, fine, fine, fine.

Rod: I'm an athlete, not an entertainer. These are the ABC's of ME. Get it? I do not dance.

So another one gone Halford to forest, ironic really if they had sold them in January they might have got a bit of money and their wages off the overheads.

All they have this time is the wages off,

Mr Birch, who was appointed Pompey joint-administrator on February 17, warned this week the club will be forced to close on August 10 unless the high earners come to a payment compromise or leave the club.

He told The News: ‘Hopefully we will get two or three more players out in the next 48 hours and get it down to the two or three others, then we might just get over the line.’

Ok, magnificent 7 (or is it 6 now)? Which three of you are willing to give up a sizeable part of your past and future salary, so that the other three (and Chinny of course) can receive their full whack?

So is Trevor now misleading about the actual numbers that need to leave :?

I suppose in the past he might have just made a mistake saying 8 needed to go,

I mean he always appears unsure about the real date the final day will be. He keeps

changing that as deadline after deadline comes and goes. :x

I think for them, 'truth' is not an absolute, its more of a relative kind of thing and in their minds, its whatever they want it to be

Sorry, that sounds a bit Zen, I think what I'm really trying to say is they make it up as they go along

Noted the name of Kanu's solicitor is Samuel Okoronkwo. Now I'm no Nigerian surname specialist, but didn't there used to be an Okoronkwo who played for Nigeria? I'm going to have a little Google and find out if its the same bloke...

And proof that most of the few still don't: http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/pompey-past/huseklepp-is-the-next-to-leave-fratton-park-1-4107226

Erik Huseklepp today gave Pompey another boost with a switch to Norwegian side SK Brann.

The forward penned a four-and-a-half-year deal with his former club to bring to an end his Fratton Park stay.

Huseklepp is the fourth player in a week to depart the Blues as they seek to remove players off the wage bill to avoid liquidation.

It means four senior players remain, Liam Lawrence, Tal Ben Haim, Dave Kitson and Kanu.

Huseklepp scored six goals in 28 appearances for Pompey after arriving from Bari in August 2011.

Now Mr Football League Please can we sign some players

Why not? How do these people breathe?

Adenuff. Please put a plug in it!! I would much prefer Portsmouth survive as portsmouth rather than a new afc Portsmouth or whatever the new club would be. I wish people would stop moaning even about good news!!!! First it's EVERY PLAYER MUST LEAVE now it's oooo we have no dignity. For goodness sake get behind the team that has existed for 114 years rather than thinking about a club that doesnt even exist yet. Until the fat lady sings anyway! PUP PPU

YEAH, WHY DWELL ON THE THOUSANDS YOU HAVE SCREWED WHEN YOU CAN IGNORE A HISTORY OF CHEATING (CHARITIES AND OTHER TEAMS) AND MONEY LAUNDERING AND TYPE IN ALL CAPS !!!!11111

Brilliant news. It's all coming together, Lawrence will be next to go then just the last 3 wasters. I'm sure we'll come to agreements with them. So much for liquidation. Maybe all you haters should go start your own proxy little team up that you can feel PROUD of. Put knightly up front!

Yeah, you haters! stop having a conscience. You idiots, you probably don't even want to spend any money now! What has Alan Knight (MBE) ever done for Pompey anyway. That twat

From Wikipedia:

Narcissism

In clinical psychology and psychiatry, an unrealistic, exaggerated, or rigidly held sense of entitlement may be considered a symptom of narcissistic personality disorder, seen in those who 'because of early frustrations...arrogate to themselves the right to demand lifelong reimbursement from fate. (Otto Fenichel, The Psychoanalytic Theory of Neurosis (London 1946) p. 499)

That is all

Birch could resolve this SO easily and guarantee survival of the club. All he has to do is make those players redundant, terminating their contracts and do the deal with the Trust. Of course the Golden Share will be withdrawn and they'll have to restart in the Conference South (at best). They might even still get the PPs and their gates won't drop that much. After all, the Trust and their fans have said that the most important thing is the survival of the club, regardless of their league position.

But as usual, they're being greedy and want someone else - the players/former-heroes will do - to pull them out of the financial **** (again) so they can unfairly maintain their League status and continue the serial cheating. If the Trust were serious, and had any degree of remorse about the club's past failings, they'd do the honourable thing and put this to TB.

They want the players to leave to guarantee the survival of the club and therefore gain hero status...

What's hero status worth a Notarf Krap?

Kanu, scores winning goal in FA Cup final... Hero... now, public enemy number 1

Alan Knight, Long serving loyal player... Hero... Suggests they ought to reform and take their punishment... Slagged off in the Snooze

Etc

Hero status isn't worth much down there.

Kitson, Kanu, TBH

Should you give up hundreds of thousands of pounds to save pimpey and appease the few?

F*ck off should you

As one fan said last week in the snooze. Write a cheque Chinney - let's go shopping

Yes, but those would be the actions of a club that wasn't permanently entitled to a place at the top table

So what did you beat them down too then?

Well, I DID try. SPent an hour in Baiyoke Sky Tower market yesterday 6 farking floors full of T Sirt shops.

Best one I saw was Darth Vader saying Come across to the Dark Side.... We have cookies - which could then have had a PTS crest & WTFILN on it - but they only had Thai Medium - trust me that wouldn't have even gone over Eric's head... AND they were ONLY 2 quid each. Down side is even I would have had to sew 4 together to make it fit!

Lot of the old T Shirt places have been redeveloped - is bloody annoying haven't found ANY to buy for myself for normal wear either. Still I git the wedding suits - look great and shoes

One last trip now before checking out & heading home.

Oh and in related (not) surprising news - I have not been able to find a fake new season kit over here - now THAT is saying something

No idea what, but it's something
