Pompey Takeover Saga

On a more serious note, by the looks of how they played this evening, their players didn't look like they wanted to get injured and went through the motions a bit. I think this is all a charade and the liquidation has pretty much begun, barring exceptional circumstances.

Hmmmm.

Maybe, but its still hilarious.

From: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/RedundancyAndLeavingYourJob/Redundancy/DG_10029832

If your employer has selected you for redundancy you must be given a notice period before your employment ends. The statutory redundancy notice periods are:

at least one week’s notice if you have been employed between one month and two years

one week’s notice for each year if employed between two and 12 years

12 weeks’ notice if employed for 12 years or more

However, you should also check your contract of employment because your employer could have set out longer notice periods.

Trev's announcement of redundancy discussions suggests that they might only have enough cash for a couple of weeks.

I can see how that will attract a field of outstanding and well-qualified candidates keen to work for nothing.

On one hand we must appreciate that they are trying to prepare for the possibility of survival while trying to keep expenses down.

On the other hand,... just ...

Apparently not - called it embarrassing - maybe he's seen the light.

http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/pompey-past/pompey-rocked-by-gibraltar-1-4081875

"The hosts scored twice in each half to inflict a heavy scoreline on Pompey, who were skippered by Sam Magri.

Mustapha Dumbuya was the most eye-catching of the Blues players on display, yet it was a night to forget for all concerned, including around 400 away followers."

Mustapha Dumbuya? I thought that was a joke name made up by one of you lot. If Pompey end up with Mustapha Dumbaya I might explode.

Michael Appleton voiced his criticism of the Gibraltar pitch after watching his side slump to a 4-0 defeat last night.

http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/pompey-past/appy-unhappy-with-surface-after-pompey-defeat-1-4082256

Appleton said: ‘It’s also the first game against a side that have been together for a long time, on a difficult surface, with an almost balloon of a ball.

Point 1: Gib are an amateur side who get together once in a while. At least one player is in the 3rd div of the Spanish league which is semi-professional.

Point 2: I watched the stream and the ball was changed each time it left play at either end with ball boys supplying a quick alternative so there were probably about 6 balloon shaped balls!

More nonsense from an increasingly desperate Appy.

I wonder if there is any truth to this?

2 of my friends have been made redundant as well as the rest of the employee's at Portsmouth Football Club. I have been told the club will be liquidated on August 1st and will have to wait a year to start again in a league.

http://westbrom.com/forum/index.php?topic=8491.msg173215#msg173215

Would be odd for a West Brom fan to just make it up and post it on a West Brom forum. Its not like he is trolling Pompey fans, just informing fellow West Brom fans.

Lets wait & see. A bit like the crowd of ghouls gathering at the scene of an RTA - policeman waving his hands repeating 'nothing to see here, move along' - fat chance :D

It ties in with the question put to Neil Allen yesterday on Twitter that asked was there any truth that a meeting had been called for staff for 24 July, which is the 7 days required for redundancy for those who have been there a year or less.

They don't need to give any notice, they can pay money in lieu of notice, or the Pompey way which would be to tell them all to get to be unsecured creditors and be paid 1% of what they are owed on the 31st of Never.

Also the Skates team hadn't been used to playing in the sun, having not seen it for months, whereas the Gibraltar team were used to it.

The Skates weren't used to playing quite so far South.

The food down there is a little greasy with too much garlic and his players weren't used to it.

There were only 400 Skate supporters there to cheer them on, whereas they are used to far more. Although there was the quality of support, unfortunately there wasn't the quantity.

The Gibraltar crowd were chanting OWTS, which confused them, particularly their star player. Gillett didn't know which goal he should have been aiming for.

Have I missed any other reasons (sorry, excuses.) for the Skate's poor performance?

If I were a Skate fan (heaven forbid), then I'd be telling Appy "thanks four - nothing".

What a fantastic hour I've just had reading on here the last 24 hours in the PTS. Several belly laughs, just fabulous. Meeting on 24th July ties in with expiration of Chinnys 28 days, he's clearly told Trev he ain't following through. There's still a way to go, and jusy like when Voldemort dies at the end of HP, it's going to be messy, but I just can't wait for those DFCSB's and their ****witted supporters to finally get put down. FOAD pompey. WTFILN.

Sorry, can't agree with that.

I'm worried about Whitey, he's recovering from a mahoosive operation. I don't think he could take it.

I'm bruised all over from falling off my chair laughing and my sides are just in so much pain.

Think it better we let them go quietly.

Who they playing next?

Oh dear oh dear oh dear.

Will probably be like watching Portugal play Fiji at Rugby 7's.........

Plucky performance, but still 109-0 to the proper team

Thanks Phil, but perhaps I'll risk it. I need something to cheer me up. No belly laughs though, just a few gentle chuckles would be nice. :-)

At least there is always a bright side to their preseason loss according to one skate on pol.

Plus I guess it could've been worse...

At least we didn't lose our own cup to Arsenal.

Edit: Oh god it gets even funnier, I didn't realise they've not won it at all! Bilbao won it last year!

The thing with the players is that even though they may have earnt a fair bit, their lifestyle costs are presumably high, but someone like Halford, who is on £15-20/week give or take, is being asked to walk away from a sum of money big enough to make him secure for life. His contract, plus deferrals, adds up to £1-1.5million - who the hell would forego that to save your former employer?

And having seen how the last CVA went, receiving a percentage of it it in a new CVA over four years probably doesn't fill him with confidence that he'll ever see it. He said himself he's received no offers from other clubs and if he does, he'll never get a contract near that value again, so he hasn't got much to lose, has he? For Kitson and Kanu, at the end of there careers, it's their last payday. Why the hell should they walk away from it?

Mullins sounded like he wrote off a fair bit, but got a fairly juicy contract at Brum, Mokoena may have negotiated the best deal of them all - in many failing companies the first round of voluntary redundancies always get the best offer - to set an example. But those other guys ain't going anywhere without cash up front.

Most unfair by the Gibraltar Team, making the mighty Pimpey play on the SAME pitch that they did

One could say they made a monkey out of them

OK, so narrow results either way against Werder Bremen, Ath Bilbao, Anderlecht and Arsenal (res) is something to be ashamed of, far moreso than being battered 4-0 by a team of amateurs?

They just don't get it.

Apparently they are shocked by the **** taking and abuse rained down on the skate team by the Gib fans . I mean really shocked. I think they had deluded themselves that they had the support of other football fans.

I cannot tell you how much I am enjoying this. The whole saga has to be the biggest example of Karma since the beginning of Karma.

I've woken up this morning and it's like I've had a fantastic dream, and then found out that the last 24-48 hours did actually happen. So to summarise....

The administrator says unless the 8 players left at home don't reduce their wage 'demands', Pompey will be liquidated on 1st August.

Greg Halford says the administrator isn't talking to them or other clubs much and really not making an effort.

Despite taking on a head of recruitment, a commercial manager & a first team coach, they still can't sign any player & want 4 people to work as performance analysts for free.

The fans have taken to twitter to make the 8 players at home public enemy number one & basically want to lynch them.

There shocked that other fans don't realise they are the bestest.

The future Pompey first team got humiliated 4-0 by a team of part timers whose previous scalps included the giant football nations of the Isle of Man & Jersey.

The only player that came out of the 4-0 defeat is the fantastically named Mustapha Dumbuya.

Have I missed anything?

You have indeed :D

As well as taking on a head of recruitment, a commercial manager & a first team coach, they are currently looking to make lots and lots of other staff redundant - can't imagine they have any non essential staff left do they, after Birch's tranch of redundancies when he started, which followed AAs hundreds of redundancies when he stepped in! - anyway, the fact that these people need to be made redundant is because of the players, obviously.

Just a small point you missed, but quite important nonetheless.....
