Pompey Takeover Saga

From yesterday's Grauniad, see the bits and bobs section .....

Good to see a journalist that's as flabergasted as we are...

"And having left all their senior players at home in a bid to sell them and raise funds, the Portsmouth work experience scheme has continued apace, with news the club have taken on three more trialists to join the eight they already have at their Spanish training camp. Lord knows the Fiver's no financial wizard: but "Spanish training camp"?"

Oops....

http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/pompey-past/curanovic-counts-cost-of-video-nasty-1-4069821

It was the video nasty which tragically shattered the dreams of Darjan Curanovic.

What’s more, the Slovenian keeper himself was responsible for unleashing it upon an unsuspecting world.

Curanovic had been lined-up to attend the training camp in Spain as part of a trial.

That was until members of the Pompey backroom staff saw the highlights package the 26-year-old posted on YouTube.

It was meant to contain the keeper’s best bits during a number of matches.

Instead, it portrayed a player uncomfortably dealing with bouncing balls and some questionable positioning.

That was enough to prompt Pompey to swiftly pull the plug on their arrangement with the unfortunate fellow.

Hang on, that's the youtube highlights that even the pompey forums found within about 10 minutes of the original Pompey News story. I have a low opinion of the clowns running PFC, but can't believe they didn't know _anything_ about Darjan Curanovic before inviting him for a trial?

It's actually an improvement on their investigative skills over the last five years. Just think what calibre of owner they might have been able to avoid had they had the Internet at Pompey HQ a few years ago...

He would not.

Chinny keeps the ground. Charges 500k per annum to PST Newco on a 99year lease with increases on promotion(s) (haha) but no reductions on relegation. (He would still build Tesco's if PSTnewcofolds)

PSTNewco offer 100k to the CVA fund.

Chinny books 49mil value of the lease (that he can then sell or leverage)

PST get the club for a peanut and bingo, no debt is loaded onto PSTnewco

Simples

So not toast then? Bloody hell im going to have to go and relaunch 'Pompey will get away with it Newco'

If that comes to pass they would have dodged the bullet yet again.

Leeds are set to sign Luke Varney from Portsmouth but will have to pay the £300,000 fee to Derby, who are still owed money from the striker’s move to Fratton Park last summer. (The Sun)

Thought the 300k would have been paid out of the PP, still at least pompey are not going to get hold of it and use the money their selves.

UnAppy - The club is in big trouble, we cannot spend any money and a good pre-season training camp is a vital part of our promotion campaign, would you help fund it?

Ellis - I'm a fan and I want to do my bit, of course I'll help.

UnAppy - thanks, it's not just a holiday...

Ellis - No I appreciate that, it's a chance for the first team squad to get back to peak fitness and gel with the new signings.

UnAppy - mmm.

Ellis (laughing) It's not like I've been conned in to paying for a holiday for random strangers who will play no part in any pompey future!....

silence.

(UnAppy shuffles awkwardly, tumbleweed blows through the room, Ellis waves goodbye to his cash and joins a long list of shafted locals)

Jordan Cross ‏@pn_jordan_cross Birch: Kanu has no grounds for claim http://tinyurl.com/bmsxhc7 #Pompey

Trevor Birch is confident Kanu’s claim against the club does not stack up.

The Pompey administrator is still locked in talks with Kanu’s representative to negotiate the striker’s exit from Fratton Park.

The FA Cup hero of 2008 has stunned Pompey by handing in a claim against them totalling millions of pounds.

Kanu appears to have signalled his departure from the club, with players entitled to rip up their contract and hand in a 14-day notice after not being paid at the end of last season.

That follows on from him not returning for pre-season training at the start of last week.

The fear is the claim, if accepted, could cripple the club, with the funds coming out of distribution payments earmarked to keep Pompey alive.

Kanu’s barrister, Samuel Okoronkwo, last week indicated the issue had been raised with the Football League.

That’s on top of the £300,000 he is said to be claiming – through a compromise agreement – to tear up the final 12 months of his contract.

Birch explained he is still trying to negotiate with Okoronkwo in an effort to bring an amicable conclusion to the saga.

Birch said: ‘Kanu has handed his notice in as such, in as much as the agent has made it clear he is not returning.

‘I’m talking to his agent and trying to resolve the problem and negotiate a settlement.

‘We don’t think that he has any grounds for his claim.

‘We have to systematically go through it.

‘It’s a challenge, but they are all challenges in their own way.’

Well every idiot knows that if you are being sued you don't admit you are in the wrong even though you know you are.

IF they thought he was incorrect they should have said "He doesn't have any grounds" - not just "we don't think he has".

That sounds very wishey washey to me.

Am I right in thinking that, at the moment, they've got more registered insolvency practitioners than registered players?

I make it:

3 from PKF (PFC 2010 Ltd. in administration)

3 from UHY (CSI Ltd. in administration)

3 from David Rubin Ptnrs. (Miland Development 2004 Ltd. in administration)

and some from Baker Tilley (PCFC Ltd. in liquidation)

THAT is definately the most expensive squad in L1.

don't like to kick them while they are down, but this is another example of a meek fanbase lapping up spin.

Birch sounds VERY uncertain as to his defence of Kanu's claim - it sounds 50:50 from those quotes.

But all over Portsea people will be dismissing it, along with the other points raised by my learned nutjob friends.

Like the points penalty that was always likely but was met with astonishment by a dim public, if Kanu does manage to claim a few million, there will be shockwaves and a feeling that it is unfair because the spin said otherwise.

It'll be like the nasty authorities punishing them twice.

Again.

It's time for the few to stand up and ask some questions.

If they did that and gained some knowledge of the subject it would save me loads of time having to explain every fricking twist to the pompey fans that I know.

Idiot's Guide.

Kanu could well have a claim, Birch is still investigating.

Whatever Chinny did or didn't do, his secured position is pretty sturdy, Birch decided not to challenge it.

The Trust will have to do a deal with him if they want to move forward.

No new owner will take control with the current wagebill.

If they exit without a CVA this time it will be another offence, so there will be another points penalty - it won't be a third punishment for the same offence.

Something will come up is not a valid business plan.

They are able, of course, to present hard evidence for the vailidity of this approach by quoting the example of Mr Micawber:

"I have no doubt I shall, please Heaven, begin to be more beforehand with the world, and to live in a perfectly new manner, if -if, in short, anything turns up. - David Copperfield Ch.11

This is the person funding Pompeys players holiday,

''Life-long Blues supporter Dave Ellis has dug into his own pockets and stumped up a five-figure sum to enable Michael Appleton’s men to travel to southern Spain.''

Someone should tell the Snoozre that the trialists haven't signed, can't afford to pay them, so aren't Appy's Boys.
