Tired of life on the scrapheap?....

Feel that your career has hit rock bottom and you could only sink lower if you offered filthy sailor's 'special services' on the quayside?

 

Well why not leave your **** life behind for ten days, join Capt Appy's Extreme Camping, Sailing and Hunting charity* tour of Gibraltar this summer!

 

Day one, you meet up with a bunch of strangers and misfits in the car park of Halfords, some of these people may be convicted criminals.

On the special command, you all steal bikes and head off to Camber Docks.

Four stomach-churning days later your fishing vessel will sail into Gib, but there's no time for sightseeing, for the survivors it's off into the hills on two wheels to catch squirrels/monkeys and build shelters.

But what's in it for me, I hear you squeal with excitement, other than motion sickness, stomach cramps, broken promises, exposure, and scurvy...

Absolutely nothing!

You might be asked to play a match, but you won't get taken on, and you'll get promised stuff that will never happen - you're only there to meet some contractual requirement agreed by a lunatic.

 

But on the plus side, you'll bond with a bunch of people that you won't see ever again - and you'll come home after a week dining on the finest squirrel stew thinking that Iceland stores sell quality food, and a Premier Inn is posh.

THE leader of Portsmouth City Council has written to a football authority asking it not to dock Pompey a further 10 points.

Councillor Gerald Vernon-Jackson sent the message to Greg Clarke, chairman of the Football League yesterday.

Last season Portsmouth Football Club lost 10 points after it went into administration in February.

It meant the team was relegated from the Championship, and will be playing their first match in League One in August.

But then it was announced the league has docked an additional 10 points, meaning Pompey will start bottom of the table.

Cllr Vernon-Jackson’s letter states: ‘My concern is that this does not have the appearance of natural justice and that the football club are being penalised twice for the same crime.

‘One of the aims of sport is to encourage ambition and for youngsters growing up to understand about fair play.

‘The decision of the Football League in relation to Portsmouth seems to penalise their ambition and to punish twice for the same action, something that no one could view as fair. I would therefore ask the Football League to reconsider their decision on the issue of points deduction.’

Pompey were docked a further 10 points for failing to pay creditors from their previous times in administration

Someone should write to this tax payer funded councillor to explain why this isn't the same crime being penalised twice.

 

There are two completely discreet breaches of the game's laws re: administration. You get punished once for going into administration and again if you don't come out of administration properly.

 

Does he think it's setting a good example of "fair play" to the next generation by condoning the wiping out of c.£130m of debt? Yeah, let's teach kids about how ripping off the local business and charities (that he represents as a councillor) is only worth a slap on the wrist. FFS.

 

Why don't they get it? It's not complicated.

I've been on skiing chalet holidays like that!

GFA release official team song

The GFA over the weekend announced the release of an official national team song, named “We Follow The Red and White”.

 

 

 

The idea, spearheaded by national manager Allen Bula, was composed and recorded by a number of local musicians, and you can listen to it below:

I read the article in The News where it was reported that you had written to the Football League in an attempt to get them to rescind the 10 point deduction given to Portsmouth Football Club.

 

You are apparently under the misapprehension that the 10 point penalty was further punishment for the same "crime." If The News has reported your comments accurately, then it is interesting and somewhat revealing that you choose to call it a crime, as much of the recent activities of Portsmouth Football Club have involved people who have been subjected to criminal investigations and indeed court appearances. But of course, I'm sure that you meant it as a figure of speech.

 

Nevertheless, your conclusion that they have been punished twice for the same thing, shows that you have misunderstood the reasons for the additional points deduction and had you taken the trouble to research the points penalty properly, you would have found that it was in fact given because they effectively had not settled the CVA from their previous administration. This was deemed by the FL to be the same as exiting administration without a CVA, which is punishable with a points deduction.

 

In fact, it is arguable that the Football League have been rather lenient with Portsmouth Football Club and that the penalties could have been much more stringent, as this was their third administration, the second within a two year period and normally that would have attracted additional penalties. Indeed there are precedents of other clubs like Leeds, Luton and Bournemouth for example, who have suffered stiffer penalties for arguably lesser offences.

 

But apart from your lack of understanding of the rules of the Football League, I also take issue with your conclusions regarding the fairness of the situation. You state that the FL are penalising their ambition. This will presumably be the same ambition that drove them to spend massive amounts of money they didn't have, to buy the FA Cup and to gain an advantage over their rivals who only bought players within their financial means.

 

And when the youngsters growing up as their fans need to be set an example to help their understanding of fair play, then that example should be one of profligate spending without the resources to support it? Because when it all goes wrong, they can rely on the leaders of their local Council, or their local MPs to tell them that it wasn't the fault of their football club and how dreadfully unfair it is to punish them.

 

And why is it, that the local Council leader and the local Members of Parliament are seemingly too ready to make excuses on behalf of the football club, whilst ignoring the suffering that has been inflicted on those owed money by them that they will have to write off as unrecoverable debts? Should you not also be representing the interests of local businesses, schools and charities who have all been cheated out of the money that PFC owed them, not to mention the millions of pounds owed to the Exchequer in unpaid taxes; money that could have been spent on hospitals, teachers, social services etc, in Portsmouth.

 

So in conclusion, it appears that it might have been better for you to stay away from matters that you don't understand, or where your motives are questionable. There is even a growing body of opinion from amongst the club's supporters that the punishment was fair and deserved. The more sensible and decent of the club's fans are ashamed by the way that the club has behaved, accumulating such massive debt levels and having most of it written off via administration. But you act as an apologist for the club, with not a word of condemnation for their behaviour, with no acceptance that they should be punished for it. No wonder that the general public have such a lack of respect for the political establishment.

 

Perhaps if there was an argument put forward cogently that his stance was a vote loser, he might think again. But we are talking about Skate voters here, so there probably aren't enough intelligent ones to realise that local businesses, schools, charities and the taxman are more deserving of consideration than their football club.

Jackson is merely trying to divert attention from the fact he has stood resolutely against any idea of the council helping the football club in any way - and good on him for that. Can't imagine they will be fooled by this half hearted plea. Actually I'm amazed he hasn't got a load more **** from Pompey fans for his stance.

 

Now is not the time for Saints fans to get on his back. He's done the square route of **** all for them up until this point. Long may that continue.

I was a little surprised that a senior politician would advertise his ignorance quite so clearly*

He obviously has NO grasp of the facts whatsoever, and his letter will be treated with disdain by the football authorities - and rightly so.

 

He's just wasted an hour of his own life and everyone else's - a little less time harvesting the votes of simpletons and a little more time governing might be nice.

I'm bored with the continued suggestion that the Players will be responsible for the club going out of business.

 

A hundred sh1t decisions endorsed by the fans will see the club go out of business.

 

The contracts that were handed to the players will see the club go out of business.

 

It is not the players responsibility to give up their (legally binding) contracts.

 

These types of comments are the sort made by spoilt youngsters that couldn't count when they were losing at table tennis.....14-10 to you...... lose another 3 points, what's the score?..... 14-10 to you....... but it was 14-10 3 points ago....... no it wasn't..... yes it was....... maybe it was, let me off those?

 

Grow up and take responsibility for your f*ck ups. You don't just get let off in life (although PFC are having a f*cking good go at it - 130million times over)

You also get some funny comments from Mr Lampitt about governance and regulation of clubs to stop the going all quality over quantity!

 

Lampitt says the FCR is wrong (despite registering himself as a FC to the detriment of local creditors)!

 

Later on Lampitt gets mugged off for being the former CEO of disgraced pompey. In fact pompey gets a few mentions... you can see the committee members just want to bang on about pompey but the restrain themselves and talk about 'a club that gets itself in distress'...

 

Clarke was rather scathing about the viability of trust ownership of clubs, saying they had no chance outside of L2/Non-League...

Thanks for the compliment, rallyboy. I agree that the FL will ignore his missive for what it is; vote-catching. But I'm afraid that I must disagree with the bit I highlighted. The less time that this sort of idiot spends governing us, the better off we'll all be!
