SaintRichmond Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 I think this says it all about your fans views on cheating! nagoyablue 8:43 AM on 16/07/2012 denmedeblue, Doncaster players were on about 1000 a week in the championship, and that will be reduced in League 1. We had an average attendance of 15,000 last season, to Donny's 9000. I expect the gap to be bigger this season. So we can easily outbid Donny without breaking the bank. Or the wage structure of league 1. In fact, with the average attendance of most clubs in league 1 less than 7000, and an average wage 0f 1,500 a week, we could outbid most clubs but remain within a break even budget. How the hell can you "Break The Bank" You never keep any money in it
Torres Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 Keep in mind that they haven't actually signed anyone yet and that any future signings will apparently be subject to strict Football League approval. Of course, we have heard that before, but maybe this time they mean it...
trousers Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 @pn_neil_allen: Lloyd Sam and Brian Howard also on the Spanish training camp. No sign of the second keeper yet, though. #Pompey
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 The same Doncaster who had Diouf and Habib playing most of last season yet only paid £2k per week for both? It is better to remain silent and let people think you are a fool rather than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. Do yourself a favour . . . Neil?

eurosaint Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 I get confused, what with our weekend being Friday & Saturday and all that. So, can someone remind me, was it last week or this week that 3 players were leaving? The key in this case is to count the number of 'verys' in a sentence ! Ie. if Appy says " they are very, very, very, very close to leaving" you will still be a few 'verys' short of reality ! Look out for a statement dominated by about 15 very's and you may be getting close ! HTH

It appears in most of his quotes, and usually renders the entire article a load of old gobshíte.

Foxstone Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 Speaking of which, does anyone know if their sponsorship deal has been renewed? Not been much use in "re-locating" their high earners...
saint lard Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 Loyd Sam from Leeds has joined their little jolly abroad also.
eurosaint Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 Speaking of which, does anyone know if their sponsorship deal has been renewed? There are currently a number of interested parties : Morphy Richards, Kenwood and Hovis that I am aware of, but a stumbling block seems to be that without a shirt to stick their logo on they are stumped !!
krissyboy31 Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 Loyd Sam from Leeds has joined their little jolly abroad also. Blimey, wasn't he one of the "new best thing" a few years ago and a regular in the HCDAJFU threads? How the mighty have fallen!!
Truckasaurus Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 Is it just me or is a jolly to Spain free these days, free food, free hotels,no wages to pay.(sponsered my arse) What the f**k is going on Trev. Honestly this costs money and i am at a loss as to why a club with so much debt, in administration is going abroad. It has been said many times before but i'm going to say it again. THIS IS BEYOND A F**KING JOKE NOW. Wind 'em up Trev, please, it is pathetic how they are managing to stay afloat. AAAARRRGGGHHH!!!!!!!! God bless "Sean the bear" (and his wardrobe making talents)
OldNick Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 Oh dear i might have to reconsider 'they will get away with it' tm. I was confident last week reading on here that they were indeed finished , but seeing the likes Howard etc joining up as trialists and I may have a re-think. Taking on a no.2 shows that TB feels there is life in the club. Pretty disappointing really that they can still try and sign some decent players for that level.
hutch Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 Don't be hasty, Nick. Wait for the "triallist's" reactions when they find out that the wage cap is fifteen hundred quid a week. Should be almost as funny as Appy's when he finds out.

Ah....I remembered incorrectly....the original club statement said "funded by sponsors"... http://www.portsmouthfc.co.uk/LatestNews/news/Gibraltar-v-Pompey-3399.aspx Gibraltar v Pompey Pompey will play the Gibraltar national side as part of their pre-season tour this summer. Michael Appleton’s squad will be based in Spain and take on Gibraltar on Friday, July 20 in an 8pm kick-off. The tour, which is being funded by sponsors, is dependent on the successful outcome of Pompey’s period in administration. Erm....they were still in administration the last time I looked....
brightspark Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 "Those sad people from "up the road" really do have short memories. It was only a few years ago that they were in a similar state to us. Did their plunge into administration not leave many local businesses, etc. out of pocket?" Dumb **** They NEED to die, disgraceful actions taking those triallists. Makes me sick.
trousers Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 @pn_neil_allen: Hold on a sec, there is another triallist to greet us at the hotel. It's former Shrewsbury and Notts County striker Luke Rodgers!! #Pompey

CB Saint Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 Blimey, the are more trialists than the birmingham six. Futile is a word than readily springs to mind when considering anything PFC related these days
Pamplemousse Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 Apparently the goalkeeper trialist who's travelled is former Cardiff player Tom Heaton

Channon's Sideburns Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 Haha... Looks like another 'sh1t or bust' Business Plan then. They'll never learn. To quote the great man.... 'If Pompey were a horse, they would've shot em by now'
brightspark Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 Was he the one who got done for GBH? Oui. Couldn't make it up. Pompey don't deserve to just die, they should be hung and quartered first. "Big spender" Appleton too.
Waterside.saint Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 http://www.gibraltarnft.com/new_gnft_012.htm "Portsmouth FC will travel to Gibraltar from their Summer training camp in Spain on Friday July 20th. Still in cloud cuckoo land if they think these signings would get them near top 6. We spent a huge amount relatively for L1, thankfully of money the owners actually had. Yet it still wasn't easy. We had some great players, many have proven themselves at a far higher level already. But as well as a handful of decent sides in L1, there are a bigger group of very tough places to go, organised sides short on talent but full of effort and men behind the ball ready to frustrate you. Every season relegated sides seem to underestimate it. I imagine we would have, if it weren't for our lack of team going into the season and rebuilding. On one hand, you might think 'well they would say that, wouldn't they'. On the other hand, they're deluded.
trousers Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 Was he the one who got done for GBH? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luke_Rodgers Rodgers was arrested in January 2002 after allegedly assaulting Hartlepool United defender Chris Westwood, having confronted the player in the Victoria Park car park.[54] In April 2003, Rodgers was ordered to carry out 100 hours community service and pay £5,000 in compensation by Warwick Crown Court after a firework set by Rodgers misfired and hit a sixteen year old girl, causing significant damage to the girl's face. The incident occurred in October 2002, outside the Spitfire Inn pub in Castle Bromwich.[55] Rodgers was given an 'adult caution for a public order offence' by the Somerset Police Force, after an incident in April 2009.[56] On 1 October 2009, Rodgers was arrested and bailed in connection with a disturbance in Nottingham city centre, following a drinking session with his Notts County teammates.[57] Seems like a nice chap. I suppose this puts a whole new angle on Pompey being "community" club of the year....
derry Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 On many subjects it common for people to base 'opinion' on ignorance, rather than actually bothering to look up the facts. It's not a tough one, the answers are all out there. Anyone thinking the SFC and PFC admins are similar simply hasn't bothered to read enough. They aren't similar to any other club's admins either, not even Leeds who have to be the closest example. If Leeds had learned nothing and done it again...twice...then it might be similar. Sadly ignorance wins through in the end with the majority. I'd be happy for them to rebuild and get on with it fairly IF these morons didn't keep making excuses, failing to grasp the point and blaming all but themselves. They need to accept the errors, accept how they've defrauded thousands of creditors, accept the unfair advantage over other english clubs, accept it can't go on like that, hand back the fa cup and start over. If that can't happen, then let them die. Even worse SFC were never in administration. That's why the bills were all paid eventually after Markus bought the assets of SLH.

The Skates had better hope that Luke Rodgers doesn't have some strange psychological hatred for people called Westwood. Or that would have serious implications both for their new first team coach and their number one fan.

holepuncture Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 Interestingly, they're the only club Coral aren't quoting odds for. Make of that what you will Really kicking myself for not bothering to lump my PST pledge refund money straight on a pompey relegation... I was planning to, but got distracted by the FLs beautiful press release. Us nutjobs could have bought the land from gadymack if we all backed a back to back relegation! You have to admire the pompey response to the FLs demands last week... jetting off to Spain, leaving contracted first teamers at home to instead bring in a load of trialists! Simon Eastwood GK Moustapha Dumbuya - RB/RWB Jon Harley - LB/LW Brian Howard - Mid Simon Gillett - Mid Lloyd Sam - Winger Izale Mcleod - Striker Luke Rogers - Striker (should fit in nicely amoungst the other players with previous, Liam and Kelvin for a start) you couldnt make it up has never been more appropriate. Sickening to boot. DFCSBs. Kanu still on OS...he hasn't left as far as I'm concerned... You're right, I think. We've had various statements from various people, Appy and Birch and Kanu's lawyer, but no formal announcement about a termination of contract. It'll all depend on the lawyers. Might take a while. God bless King Kanu
melmacian_saint Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 Did they actually take any of their contracted players to Gibraltar? Also this is outrageous. I don't remember any team in administration jetting off to a tour abroad.
Verbal Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 (edited) Apart from the expenditure, WTF is the point of a tour full of triallists? It seems a rather pathetically transparent exercise in keeping up appearances. Edited 16 July, 2012 by Verbal
saint si Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 So it's essentially an expensive overseas trip for a bunch of triallists. WTF?! Even solvent clubs don't normally do that do they? It reminds of North Korea showing tourists around... Yes, yes my friend... come join PFC2010... it is just one big holiday in the sun!
Minty Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 Trying to be serious for a mo, how could anyone vaguely connected with the club think it is a good idea to jet off abroad for pre-season training (ignoring the 'squad' situation) when they could and should arrange friendlies at home that would incur far less cost, at a time when minimising their costs should be number 1 priority. Is there ANY rational explanation for this?
saint si Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 Perhaps they had a contractual obligation to the opposition and figured the easiest thing to do was to rope a bunch of triallists in to play the games, with no intention of actually signing any of them...
TopGun Posted 16 July, 2012 Posted 16 July, 2012 Why was the Pompey fan so happy after completing his jigsaw in 6 months...? ... Because on the box it said 3-4 years. I thank you!
