Pompey Takeover Saga

Can someone explain to me how it is easier to "clear the decks" if they are in division 1 compared to the championship? Same players, same contracts. Is it just there is more chance of embarrassing the high earners into leaving in division 1?

does anyone know if mokoena is injured? spotted him eating fish and chips in the holiday inn in southsea last tuesday - it would have been too late to watch the game, let alone warm the bench. regardless it's good to see that Pompey are on the money with their sports nutrition...

manager leaving at end of season because money has run out

Doesn't help that some residents (probably newcomers) are moaning about the floodlights and advertising boards (which have been there for years).

I'm a Romsey ex-pat.

I take your point, but if they've already deferred a substantial amount even their status as preferred creditors might not be enough. Also, if the club's going tits up over the summer anyway they won't be lose out by agreeing to leave. Clearly the club can't continue in League 1 paying Ben Haim et al.

It seems to me that the players are faced with a choice between 1) negotiating a transfer whilst still in Pompey's employ and 2) seeing the club cease trading leaving them without a contract. Given that, there's surely no real reason for the high earners to stay on as, if sold, they're not going to command a fee which would impact on their earning power at their new club.

The players are not merely preferred creditors, they are GUARANTEED to get 100% of their wages - including all that has been deferred (and not all the players agreed to have some of their wages deferred in any case). This money will be paid to them from funds direct from the FL if need be.

If the club folds they become free agents and can then neotiate a higher salary then if a fee was paid was for them.

So please explain why, for example, TBH would tear up his 36k per week contract (basic - in reality it is more like 50k per week) and agree to a move to another club for (again, as an example) 18k per week.

Would you throw away money you were 100% guaranteed to receive?

I see the standard of maths has not improved down the road.....or is it just the crap standard of reporting...From The News.....

This season, teams in the Championship received a Basic Award Payment – money drawn from a £33m pool held by the Football League using television funds – of £2.3m, while teams in League One only received £650,000.

So from this pool of £33m - each championship club, all 24 of them - gets £2.3m, which equals £55.2m. Hmmmmm.

Tel Ben Haim is on £36,000 a week :scared:

If he rips up his contract what could he get elsewhere,£5,000 ? £8,000 tops ? He would be an idiot to do that hence why portsmuff are f***ed.

There wage bill is many millions of pounds. Ha Ha

Nobody is going to buy 'em with the football creditors rule as it is.

The idiots from the dark side seem to think they can "offload" their high earners. Deluded fools.

Liquidation is the ONLY option left for the dirty cheating skates. Marvelous. :D

Can anyone think of a different scenario ? (really hard ain't it you fishy f****ers)

God bless HMRC.

So you've just been relegated to League 1, are in the second administration in a few years and face the real propsect of liquidation. On top of that Fratton Park is still a ****-hole and even if you get a Phoenix club into a decent level of football next season you won't be playing there unless you pay a hefty amount to an unscrupulous money-lender. But nevermind, a random Derby County official has praised the bestest fans in the world. I'm sure that softens the blow.

lol, wtfiln.

You have by far and away the best opposition fans in the league, everyone at your club is so friendly and helpful and I personally love coming to Fratton Park. Youll be sorely missed next season.

It's great how they feel encouraged by statements like this rather then patronised.

Nice words PFC, I'm sure that you feel very proud !

One small request though - should you receive a thank you letter from the various children's cancer charities, the Red Cross and small businesses, thanking you for paying back the monies which you stole from them - I trust that you will forward this to us in the same way ??

Anyway, as you have said all along "we'll be just fine" !!

WTFILN you sad Skate B.stard ?

Guys lest not we forget that we are still owed parachute payment monies... somewhere in the region of £30-40m if my memory serves me!

I think he is a bit off target there...

12186.

Any guesses what this number represents?

The correct answer, of course, is all the paying phew, plus brum fans at their recent fixture.

An important one.

In the championship.

Standing on the pitch singing the westminster chimes won't pay any bills !!

World class.

The only issue is there will be some players who depsite the big wedge and contract will consider it a step too far from a career stand point and look to to get out even if it does mean a paycut and stay in the Cahmpionship.

Being on the official site, you're probably right - I wouldn't trust a word they say or print. More like a sop to the fans. Talking of which...

Guy at work - decent chap - is a skate supporter. Doesn't get to many games. Married, young family, can't afford to go much - you know the problems. He made the effort to support his team in their time of crisis and went along on Saturday. He was totally appalled at the behaviour of his own club's fans towards the Derby players. Spitting, coin-throwing, vitriolic abuse - all this from everyone around him, including a foaming-mouthed 75-year old, a couple of fat women and a bunch of kids.

I wonder if the Derby players would agree with the sentiments of the 'unsolicited' letter sent on their behalf?

the portsMyths keep coming - Lallana has put in a transfer request apparently - that's right up there with 13,000 free SMS seats to asylum seekers, and the nazi gold. :o

If Doncaster loved them that much they'd have given them a nice painting - but I see no watercolour of a London and North Eastern Railway Class A4 4-6-2 Pacific hanging in Birch's office, so it must be boll0x...

Saw a big skates fan tonight, he's got signed shirts, gives it large everytime I see him and goes to all home games.

I asked him if he had put his money in yet.

He looked puzzled and asked me what the Trust was.... :scared:

More marketing needed.

As for Birch - pretending relegation isn't a major blow and saying it doesn't change the finances. :scared::o

The figures he quotes are nowhere near, there is a significant drop in income, at the last count it was something like £3M+ in TV alone.

He is a desperate man.

The fat lady has sung, the four horseman are leaving an unholy trail of sh)t up the Eastern Road and he's making out that they are right on track.

Reality check required.

Yes, HMRC get the nod for the football creditors rule to be overturned in the next couple of weeks and the DCFB get away with f@cking off all the big contracts..

Genuine question on Birch.

The bloke's no fool and no crook.

So, why keep the club going if the bill is on him?

Are there various big payouts that kick in at verious times which make it worth surviving until a certain date but not beyond? (e.g. parachute payments, prize money for league position etc?)

If not, he surely would have liquidated by now.

If so, when's the last tranche of cash that he needs to keep the corpse twitching to get in?
