Pompey Takeover Saga

"Like for like"? In 1987 the skates finally got their long awaited promotion to the top flight. Fratton Park held around 30,000, The Dell about 10,000 less. Average attendance for both clubs that season was around 17,500.

"17,000" yer 'aving a larf...and "shafted for years"? You've just had the best decade in living memory for most of you skate JCLs.

Let's just accept for a minute that a "massive" club like you can only get around 13k home fans because the ground's not very nice (tho' most skates tell me it's a proper old football ground and one you much prefer to a flatpack like SMS) but aren't you even a little surprised that you can't find anymore to part with, what is it £9.50 adult one week, 4 for £44 the next, £1 for kids, in your gravest hour of need? I thought you lot were meant to be "tough working class heroes" (there go my sides) but your grounds a bit rough for you.

Oh dear.

WTFILN.

Your right, that 1987 year is probably as like for like as we can get. Two old grounds (so just the hardcore, no tourists), both in the top league. You were probably doing slightly better than us but not that it would have made a difference. I agree, we can compare attendances for that year.

I have been loyal to Pompey since aged 2. Hardly missed a game, but even I am finding it hard to continue to give money to the club until it is completely cleaned out and I trust that my club is behaving properly. So not I dont find it surprising. I find it surprising that we still have 12,000 to be honest.

Good luck with that, you'll be waiting a long time

Great excuse though !

Presumably you've been avoiding Fratton since Gaydamak took over then?

But it wasn't like-for-like that year, it was tipped massively in your favour. In a twist on recent times it was you who had the far bigger ground. No 'level playing field' there. For us 1987 was just another season in the First Division, hardly exciting, for you it was the first season back in the big time. You lot had been telling us for years.....and years.....and years.....that once you got back up there there would be no holding the sleeping gnat (sorry giant). All those big away supports, all the big clubs, a local derby! What went wrong?

Was trying to think of a comparison. A few people who make a lot of noise.

Well, there was my son's old Emo Band - Death of Eighty they made a noise and had passionate Mosh Pits going

there's the guys in the General Strike down in Portugal at the moment, they are pretty good, hell actually some of the Unite boys step up to the plate, and of course the "Good Old Student Protestors"

Yeah think that is a good link, maybe you can think of some more.

BUT

And this is the ENTIRE GODDAM FECKING POINT WHICH THEY DO NOT GET

Nobody, Sane, Solvent or Legal is going to throw truck loads of money at ANY of them JUST FOR FUN.

They will want a return.

Average crowd 15,000 Minimum cash needed 15 million

Simply cannot understand WHY they are SO THICK they are still asking for it to be put into their "club"

It would make FAR more sense to ask for it to be given to each of them

Grand in your pocket each or more Shame....

The only way the attendance debate (in relation to numbers) will ever be settled is when the contributing factors can all be included and are on a like for like basis.

With regards to fervour, noise etc it will always be opinion. The majority of which is in favour of Pompey.

To be absolutely fair, a lot of our attendances dropped off when Lowe and Wilde took over and installed the Dutch duo to run the side, so I can see where you're coming from.

I was thinking of away games more rather than home, although now you mention it a quick quote from the commentator at the live coverage a few months ago at FP:

"I have been to more packed stadiums", "I have been to shinier stadiums", "I have been to much nicer stadiums, but I have never, ever, ever been to a louder one"

Many ex players are quoted as saying that the Pompey support is the loudest they have ever played against. Its not just ex players either, Henry, Pires, Warnock, half the inter milan team have all been quoted as saying the Pompey support is good.

I could be wrong, but I dont remember ever reading the same about saints. Happy to be proven wrong though.

A quick look on the Barnsley Forum, Reading forum, Millwall forum will give you an idea of what they thought of the Pompey support.

Regarding numbers, you have the upper hand without a doubt. One day we may have your infrastructure and league position and a comparison may truly be made. I am not holding my breath though!

You talk about 27,000 in admin compared to 17,000 but was it in a falling down stadium?, was it after season ticket holders and loyal fans have been shafted for years? Was it when many find it hard to stomach supporting such appaling actions of previous owners? How many would you have got in the same circumstances? I dont know, and neither do you.

And to be absolutely fair, to be fair - the game after Lowe went we got 27,000+, the day after they were recently cleansed, and their club really needed them there, they got around 12,000.

Ah the attendance and support debate.

It's a bit rich of a club who had FA Cup final tickets go to general sale claiming the upper hand to a club who set a Wembley Stadium record for attending fans from one club in the JPT final. (The Stadium capped the number we could have at 44k, fearing encroachment with the Carlisle end.)

And as for the 'quality over quantity' statements. We were unanimously praised and applauded for our fan's commitment, noise (joint loudest singers in the premier league after St Mary's opened if I remember the polls correctly) and devotion during our FA cup run. As for 'intimidation and atmosphere,' the very same was said while we were at the Dell.

But anyway, it's always difficult to take ayone seriously when they confuse AC and Inter Milan.

Ha ha ha. What did the Inter Milan players say? You had a handful of big games on tv when you made a racket and are trying to live off that for years. I know fans from lots of different clubs and most of them associate you with "that annoying c**t with a bell". How come you all managed to put your morals to one side when you were getting to Wembley? Your support is seriously embarrassing, 12k when adult tickets work out at £11, even most of us never thought you were that bad.

Didn't Wolves make loads of noise when 5-0 to Man Utd? Does that now make them the bestest fans in the world ™ for the next 7 years?

Also, Bilbaos fans applauded Ryan Giggs off the pitch the other week. Surely they are in for a shout of it.

I mean, both of these were on TV, and a few people even made a passing mention as to how good it was. Just like 7 years ago when Pompey were on TV.

I hear a few people mention how the Stoke fans are loud sometimes.....surely that means they're the loudest ever? No?

Keep clutching at those straws Skates, everyone is laughing at you.

I'm still trying to work out where the tangible benefits are in making "the mostest noise ™"......nope, I've still got nothing.

Also Dubai Phil, perhaps my nan singing is a good example, she's god-awful, sings quite loud, but the only way I'd give her money for it is if she shuts up! (sorry nan!)

Ah Wembley.

Can someone remind me of how many WE took to Wembley?

Obviously it was a mickey mouse competition so nobody would have bothered with the cost and effort of going all the way up there.

I can't remember the day very well for some reason, could somebody remind me whether the few who bothered actually made any noise?

The latest money making ruse from the skates

As the season enters its final straight, we need your help to secure £30,000 for Pompey courtesy of a new competition from npower.

All you have to do is visit the title sponsor’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/npowerFootballLeague to grab your seat in the Fanpower Stadium application and start making noise about Pompey on Facebook and Twitter.

The virtual stadium is made up of all 72 Football League clubs and each outfit has been given a target number of sign-ups based on their average attendance*.

The first club in each division to hit this figure will win £10,000 from npower.

Pompey’s golden figure is 14,545, so get on to http://www.facebook.com/npowerFootballLeague now and get your friends and family to do the same!

Plus, there is a further £20,000 prize per division up for grabs for the club that makes the most ‘noise’ on average once inside the stadium.

Running until June 1 2012, the more ‘mentions’ and ‘status updates’ on Facebook that include Pompey first-team players’ surnames, the manager’s surname, Fratton Park, Portsmouth and Pompey – as well as ‘check-ins’ to Fratton Park – you make, the more chance we have of securing the money.

The same also applies to your Twitter accounts with points given per mention, so help support Pompey and make some noise now!

Let’s show the rest of the Football League why we have the best fans in the land.

*Club figures are based upon average home attendance figures during the 2011/12 season up until 30th January 2012. Ts&Cs apply

I'm sure Millwall were very impressed with the 150 or so you took to their place earlier in the season...

As for the Henry love in at Fratton, thanks for bringing that up again. One of the most vomit inducing things I've ever witnessed. Your team is getting absolutely humped and you lot were singing/w*nking yourselves into a frenzy over their star player. Utterly cringeworthy, I felt embarrassed for you.

Pompeys attendance was swelled by plastic premier league football fans from the south, so the Henry love-in is completely understandable as it was the only player a lot of the home crowd could recognise from Sky Sports.

On the same matter, it would have been very easy for fans to blend in with the locals support and follow the rythm of TCWTB (symbol of pompey support). The one that really stands out is the Rickie Lambert SGM of ours which the skates had a go at... all you get is the 'lyrics' der, der, der, der, der, der, der, der, deeerr, der, deeer... der, der, der ... bloody hell im sure you get my point! In fact most of their songs use the words der/doo/daa etc with one big shout of 'portsmouth' at the end, so very very easy for premier league fans to join in whilst watching Man U, Arse etc. The PUP song is pretty easy to mimick too.

s4c41v.jpg

Bestest fans in the whole wide world on the left, Poorly supported Southampton on the right. LOL

What an excellent illustration of the bestestest fans in the hole wurrrldz ™ and southamptons modest and proud away support.

Can we stop humouring the troll now and focus on the hilarity?

The Saints Foundation has raised £1m for charitable causes over the last 12 months. What do Portsmouth do with charities?

http://www.civilsociety.co.uk/fundraising/news/content/11887/southampton_football_foundation_raises_1m

They present the children’s cancer charities jumbo cheques on the pitch in front of the fratton faithful/few, then never pay them a penny.

Great effort by saints but we have a long way to go before we are like super pompey family club of the universe and defaulter of charities and small creditors!

In fact, thinking about that million from the foundation, there really is no comparison between the clubs... they are entire generations apart now. Pompey are more like Aldershot, Gillingham, Bompey etc

Two in on loan from Man Citeh until the end of the season. :toppa:

http://www.portsmouthfc.co.uk/LatestNews/news/Manchester-City-Pair-Sign-3263.aspx

Poor old Coventry et al, trying to be prudent and solvent. Come to think about it administration provides clubs like pompey a further opportunity to cheat as they dont have to pay for any running cost or upkeep. Not paying the staff, not paying stewards, defaulting all bills and screwing them in the CVA, players defering wages.

As a result of this (and voldermorts begging) you can pay out hotels, food etc for your loan signings, even if you owe the tax man millions.

Your top hat makes me chuckle, but what will really split my sides is Chinny galloping back into town with Gaddy charging up behind him... reclaiming the land that is legally theirs, and looking to claw back all that cash you owe them (including Gaddys £6k PW car park rent) that would be priceless.
